Devices not listed for returning equipment (getting return label)

I know there are endless problems about dealing with junk mail. What exactly does placing unwanted email into the Junk folder do.  I thought it signaled to Comcast that future emails from the same sender would go to Junk automatically.  That doesn't happen.  But I've noticed recently
