E. W. Scripps Programming Agreement Expired

E. W. Scripps cable network programming is currently unavailable as our agreement with E. W. Scripps has expired.

Please know we pay programmers to bring you the entertainment you love, and a number of reasonable offers have been made and they haven’t been accepted. Comcast is working toward bringing back this programming, but only with fair pricing, terms, and conditions for customers. I know unexpected changes to your TV lineup can be frustrating, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

When is this [Edited: "Language"] over. Pay $200 a month and can't watch NBC. When is xfinity going to provide what we are paying for. The clock is running with me. Not fixed shortly. I'm canceling xfinity.

April 15 - Tax Day - marks 15 days since April Fool's Day and Comcash quit Scripps channels.   Direct TV is looking attractive, and may be my new provider when the next bill comes due since we've been told there won't be any credits for the missing channels.

Apparently Comcash can't make enough money by charging for the cable channels, and now wants to charge more for broadcast channels.   Since Scripps has a multi-year deal with NBC for at least 11 affiliate stations, one would think that Comcash would care since Comcash owns NBC.  Duh!

I am writing to formally complain about the removal of Scripps network channels from my Xfinity television package while my monthly bill remains unchanged.

This situation is unacceptable. I am being charged for a level of service that Xfinity is no longer providing. The channels that were part of my subscription were a key factor in my decision to maintain this package, and their removal significantly reduces the value of what I am paying for.

What is especially frustrating is the lack of accountability shown to customers. There has been no automatic credit issued, no meaningful effort to adjust billing, and no clear communication outlining how long this disruption will last or what resolution is being pursued.

To be clear, I expect the following:

  • An immediate prorated credit for the loss of Scripps channels
  • A reduction in my monthly bill for as long as these channels are unavailable
  • The option to change or cancel my service without any penalty due to this reduction in service
  • Transparent communication regarding the status of this dispute and expected timeline for resolution

If this matter is not addressed promptly, I am prepared to escalate further by filing complaints with the Federal Communications Commission and my state’s consumer protection office.

I have been a paying customer and expect to receive the service I am billed for. I look forward to your prompt response and a fair resolution.

user_lxtel9 - Thank you for choosing Xfinity and for taking the time to share your concerns. We understand how disappointing it can be to lose access to programming you enjoy, and we truly appreciate your patience. On March 31, 2026, at 5:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), Comcast’s agreement with E. W. Scripps to carry its programming expired. As a result, E. W. Scripps programming is no longer available on Xfinity or Comcast Business, including on Xfinity Stream and On Demand. Comcast works hard to bring customers the entertainment, news, and sports they value by fairly compensating programmers for their content. At the same time, we are committed to negotiating reasonable agreements that reflect today’s evolving viewing options and help ensure the best possible value for our customers. While Comcast has made several reasonable offers, E. W. Scripps has not yet accepted them. Customers were notified of contract expiration by email. Please know that we remain actively engaged in discussions and are committed to reaching an agreement that allows this programming to return under fair pricing and terms for our customers. Comcast pays networks and station owners for the ability to deliver their programming to Comcast customers. Agreements are negotiated to bring customers the best value for the content they want. For more information, see xfinity.com/howitworks. We appreciate your understanding and continued trust in Xfinity.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of that. I called Xfinity and they are no help. The transparency should be notifying customers well before this shutdown deadline. I didn’t know until the day before

I am really thinking about getting rid of xfinity over this. I really like my ABC shows.

Apparently limit has failed to negotiate contracts to get local NBC and other critical channels in any areas of Florida.  I pay an insane amount already for cable and now I don’t get my normal programs?  Seriously?  I will be calling today to switch providers and drop xfinity

Please bring back WPTV to our programming. I pay almost $400 a month and can't even get my local news!! As a Floridian I rely on that channel for local news during Hurricane season. When we have a hurricane coming they are my go-to channel for guidance. You cannot put a price tag on that! Please reconsider and reinstate the channel....with NO increase in fees. We basically pay a car payment to get cable TV and internet.

I sure hope Comcast is working on getting an agreement with Scripps Broadcasting here in Michigan. The loss of the ABC stations means I have to find other ways to view them. Once I do that, I will learn I don't need to rely on Comcast. Additionally, customers should be seeing a reduction in our monthly rate now that you've eliminated channels that were in our package.

It's not Comcast's profit; they don't want to pay any more like you don't want to pay any more.  It's Scripps that is demanding more in carriage fees.

Scripps is CBS in my area.  I have planned for months around watching the Masters this weekend.  I WILL be looking at alternative entertainment providers other than Xfinity; especially considering how much we pay each month.  Your dispute is ridiculous and you are using your customers as leverage.  Totally unacceptable!

The on screen message says they don’t accept Scripps Ofer because they would have to raise our fees. Since you are currently paying nothing to Scripps I assume there will be a refund coming. I had to subscribe to the premium Paramount+ to watch the usual broadcast unacceptable.

Scripps is CBS in my area.  My family can't watch the Price is Right, Y&R, along with other popular shows in our area.  I WILL be looking at alternative entertainment providers other than Xfinity; especially considering how much we pay each month.  Your dispute is ridiculous and you are using your customers as leverage.  Totally unacceptable! My sister suggested years ago that I switch carriers but I wanted to remain faithful after 23 years. No more.  It's obvious Xfinity doesn't care about me so I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I am totally disgusted by this Scripps dispute. In our area, it is NBC but there are so many other channels that are also Scripps that we can't get anymore. I can stream on Peacock but what am I paying Xfinity for? There are at least 6 and probably more channels that we are missing from our lineup. I am exploring other avenues to get live tv. Like Dish or Direct TV. Are we all going to get refunds for the channels we don't have access to anymore?

Visitor

I, too, would like information on the refunds.  If you are not paying Scripps then refund the customers.  I am tired of this dispute. I know from contract negotiations,  you know what you will accept, they know what they will accept.  Act like adults as you are not suffering - we are.  I know that in reading various posts, people are looking at other options and who will be the loser in the long run when we figure out we can use other options.

Are you offering a discount or making Peacock available for your customers?? This is very concerning that we are not getting a local news channel and a major broadcast channel of NBC.

Xfinity/Comcast is not currently paying Scripps for programming.  Why do the customers of Xfinity/Comcast have to pay Xfinity/Comcast for programming they are not currently receiving?

With my Cable Bill going up almost every month over $340 now which is ridiculous. With the removal of ABC from channel line up I am now looking into other service providers. I have been a loyal customer for over 30 years. I get my TV service, 1GIG internet through Xfinity. Pulling ABC was the last straw. I will be looking into other options to replace both my TV and Internet services..
