Did I Get A Scam/Spam Xfinity Sales Call?

This afternoon (08/12/22) I received a pre-recorded voicemail supposedly from Comcast Xifinity. The number that called me was [Edited: "Personal Information"] in Rochester, NY.

The full message was:

”Hi there I'm calling you from Comcast Xfinity to let you know that your existing account is qualified for 50% off in order to avail the discount kindly call us back at [Edited: "Personal Information"] from 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific standard time thank you and have a great day.”

Is this message ligitimate? If not, who do I report it to? And how do I report it?

Thank you!

Please beware, there is NO SUCH DISCOUNT.

in my case - the call was from [Edited: "Personal Information"].  Somehow they knew the last four digits of my account and the monthly bill amount.  They offered a 50% discount if I pay 4 months ahead of time the 50% discounted amount, using a Target Gift Card. - within 3 hours (and this raised my alert).  Then I was supposed to call "comcast billing" - at [Edited: "Personal Information"], and provide them with the gift card information.    THIS IS A SCAM  - Comcast is not offering any such discounts.
The problem is that when you call any of these numbers, the phone response for routing is EXACTLY the same as COMCAST.
I Googled and found out that this SCAM is on going for a long time.
I also called Comcast Security Team to alert them of this SCAM and provided them with the above information.
Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled SCAM 50% promotional discount if paid for 4 months with Target Gift card.

We received the call today but 50% off our current plan cost if we pay 7 months in advance with two target gift cards or a Target credit card. It's a Christmas Promo from Target with Xfinity. What's suspicious is this happened the day after calling Xfinity to check on new plans since our contract ended.  A survey also was sent the next day.  It started with a text to one of our mobile numbers listed in our account and they knew quite a bit of our account info. There's lots of red flags on the timing of this and to have our account information is concerning since gave no information.  The text came from a number from San Juan Puerto Rico, [Edited: "Personal Information"asking to call [Edited: "Personal Information" between 8AM-5PM PST.  Then you are asked to settle the 7-month advance payment by calling Xfinity's HQ# at [Edited: "Personal Information" and provide and authorization #.  Fortunately, we didn't fall for it.  The person seemed impatient since we asked a ton of questions and mentioned these numbers are different from the one number we always dial for Xfinity.  We called the real Xfinity number to report this and searched and found this Forum.  BEWARE!

On Dec 1, 2022 I rcvd a voice message from a person calling from [Edited: "Personal Information"].  Person identified himself as a Comcast Xfinity rep. and calling to let me know that I qualify for a 50% off my Xfinity bill.  I was told to call [Edited: "Personal Information"] for more details.  I placed call today, Dec 5th.  I just got off the phone with this person, believe his/her name was Sara.  Not sure if it was a male or female.  This person had access to all my billing details including my monthly payments and my Xfinity account number???!!  Person went on to explain the Promotion.  He/she provided me with an Auth. Code # and instructed me to call the Xfinity Billing dept at [Edited: "Personal Information"], provide them the code.  He/she then told me that this promotion is with Xfinity and Target and that if I wanted to move forward with the 50% off promotion, I would need to pay 6 months in advance using a Target credit card.  I told person that I do not have a Target card.  Person then said I could also make payment with using Target Gift cards and if I did use gift cards Xfinity would send me a check in 24 hours for $160.00 for my efforts.

It was obvious to me that this was a scam.  My concerns and issue with XFINITY are how/why do these scam artists have access to all of my Xfinity account details.  How [Edited: "Language"] do they have my account number?  How do they have my monthly charges??  How do they have my address.  Question for Xfinity: Has someone hacked into your customer files?  How could these scammers possibly have my info.  Also, I made an attempt to call Xfinity and report this incident, but recording said that Xfinity is having 3rd party issues with Live customer support, so I was not able to speak to a real person.  Which is almost as frustrating to me as dealing with the scammers!!!  I guess I really wanted this 50% offer to be real because my Xfinity monthly bill has increased by nearly 30% in 24 months.  I am retired and on Social Security, I have the Triple Play package with 1 box/remote and I am now paying $274.00 per/month.  With all this being said, I will be cutting the cord, this service is unaffordable to me, and Xfinity can't even provide a live person for me to talk with.  Very frustrated here in South Jersey!!

Let's think about this for a minute. Can you think of any motivation for Comcast to out of the blue offer a 50% discount? Nope. Scam.

Was called 50% off of bill, had to buy a target card. ... SCAM

A very nasty scam that's been reported here in the Forums a lot recently. See any of the many posts at https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/search?page=1&sortKey=RECENT&q=scam.

A competent company would have posted prominent warnings about a widespread scam that has cheated many and appears to use leaked customer data, but Comcast hasn't bothered to do that. They really should.

I received 4 separate phone calls today November 15 offering the Xfinity 50% discount each time.  I was getting one call every few days, now more often, I had a call yesterday also. Same 50% offer.  Starts as a recording, then transfers to a live person, foreign accent, lots of background noise like an old fashion "call center" with many others in the same large room making the same scam calls.  Why can't Xfinity send a "professional group of individuals" to the call center to stop this scam. Feel bad for the elderly who fall for this scam.

My question for Xfinity - the next time they call, what do you want me to ask the caller?  What information do you need to help track them and put an end to the scam calls? Let me know and I will ask.

YES! IT IS A SCAM!

The call I received on 11/15/22 came from a 610 area code, though the recorded message left call an 888 call back number.  I called the 610 number first and got the voicemail of a guy named Mark Schlager.  Then I called the 888 number and it 'sounded' legit.   It had a very similar recording when you call into Comcast/Xfinity.  However, when you call the real number, the automated voice actually tells you your name and your info before you speak to anyone.

I gave the FAKE guy the name on the account.  When he asked for my address, I told him to hold him and I googled to see if this call was a scam.  That is when I came across this forum.  I told the guy on the phone, I would call back.

So, I then called the REAL Comcast and spoke to a customer service rep.  I asked her if she had been receiving calls about 50% off the bill.  She said yes and immediately asked if I had the numbers it came from.  I gave her both numbers.  So yes, it is a scam!

Welcome to the Xfinity Forum and thank you for posting your question here. There has been no security breach within Xfinity that would have caused this. Furthermore, Comcast is not the only company whose customers have been targeted in this way. We recommend reviewing the FTC article in the marked Official Solution on this thread for additional information on these type of scams.

I just got suckered into the Target scam. The reason I thought it was legit is that my account reflected things that they said would happen - $100 credit for signing up, the addition of a premium channel. How were these changes made to my account?

I'm happy to get you in the right direction for getting your concerns answered today. Did you receive an email confirmation of the adjustment that was applied to your account for the $100, and did you receive an order to approve for the premium channel add on?

@XfinityKassie Thanks for your quick response. I really appreciate it. I did not receive anything with regards to the $100 or the premium channel add on. They both just automatically showed up in my account. Very concerning that they were able to access my account. And it ultimately cost me a good amount of money.

I have posted above a couple of times for the many calls I have received on my old land line phone number from the xfinity scamers, offering to reduce my xfinity monthly invoice by 50%.  I have now received two similar calls but they are offering to reduce my AT&T monthly invoice, very similar offer to the xfinity offer...I do not have any AT&T services...same scam, same offer as the xfinity scam...don't give them any personal information...

I returned an "xfinity call" to [Edited: "Personal Information"], after doing a reverse phone lookup and having it flagged as a "low spam risk". Person on the line asked me how much I'm paying for internet and then told me I am eligible for half off, if I prepay for 2 years. I asked if I could have the offer mailed or emailed to me & I was told no. I declined the offer. I can see how people could be fooled by this. Beware!

I just had the same call. Once the operator told me I should get eBay gift cards to pay off 12 months of the contract, I know it's a scam. Here is their billing department phone [Edited: "Personal Information"] that I should call back after I purchased the eBay cards.

Got a voicemail claiming to Xfinity and offering a special up to 50% my monthly bill. The phone number was [Edited: "Personal Information"]. I dialed it and it seemed somewhat legit (voice sounded like the same Xfinity voice I heard from calling in the past). It Once someone got on, they somewhat knew what I was paying and all I had to do to get the special rate of half of what I was paying, was to pay the first 6 months in advance ($325) and then I would not be billed for 6 months, then the remaining 18 months, I would receive the 50% off every month. It sounded a little shady so I called the Comcast/Xfinity number saved in my phone. They said there was no such sale. I called back and hit #2 for technical service and it went straight back to the original guy (sounded Indian). He asked if I was ready to save on the special.  I told him I had to ask my wife and would get back to them. Watch out for this legit seeming scam.

I received this same call today.  Realized there was something fishy when they wouldn't send me the offer via email.  The longer we talked the sweeter the deal he offered.  Think he thought I bought his story, but too many things didn't add up so here I am checking it out.  Kinda sad we have to be so cynical these days.

Received same offer on Tuesday, Dec.13, 2022.  Very pleasant American female voice left a voice mail with a call back number of [Edited: "Personal Information"].  As my contract just ended, and prices by Comcast are increasing, I called them back today.  Customer service rep sounded Indian, and I could not understand hardly anything he said.  Plus, the echo on the phone line was terrible.  When he wanted $600 up front to cover the first five months with a guaranteed price of $120 per month for two years, I thought it was a scam.  it was the $600 up front that gave it away.  I asked how long the offer was for, and he said the weekend.  ask for "Harry [Edited: "Personal Information"]".  Wonder if Harry will call back?  :)
