Absurd delay for live sports on Xfinity in 2024

I understand every network is going to have a slight built in delay....

But Xfinity adds on another 45 to 60 seconds of delay specifically for live sports. I don't know if it's their feed, or the way they are processing their feed to bring it into the home, but something needs to change ASAP.

In this day and age of live information being so critical, It's hard to imagine that I will be watching a basketball game that is four or five baskets behind live action, with apps telling me a completely different game situation and score than what I am seeing on my TV.

I truly hope this can be addressed ASAP by Xfinity. There should not be a delay for live sports that is this long in 2024!

And yes, I have reset my set top boxes, I have recycled all the streaming boxes and nothing fixes this insane delay that Xfinity manufactures for their sports and other programs.

Thank you for reaching out to us @Brads5624! We work with broadcast networks, regional sports providers, and local TV station owners to expand the content available with our services. As a cable provider, we relay the signal sent by the networks. While it can be frustrating, it is common for live television to have a delay to prevent mistakes or unacceptable content from being broadcasted.

@XfinityAldrik hi Aldrik - I absolutely understand there is a standard delay.

Yet, on Xfinity there is an additional 45-60 second delay, packed on top of the standard delay. For instance, my father has DirecTV which has a "normal" broadcast delay for live sports. Xfinity has added on to that delay significantly.

There are also MANY other threads on here that point to a similar experience from other Xfinity customers.

It's not the regular delay, it's what Xfinity is adding on to that delay that is the issue. Makes it impossible to enjoy live sports in 2024 on your platform.

Can you please escalate this up the chain? This needs to be figured out...

Thank you!

Does Xfinity have any plans to remedy this during this playoff season? Located in Boston, with both Celtics and Bruins in the playoffs, we’re watching basketball 3-5 points behind and hockey a full :45 seconds behind. This is well documented, known to Xfinity, why is this the case?

@user_fu88b1 it is really really annoying!   Been bugging me for a while.   Are there any solutions.   My phone notifies who won while I’m still watching.   Makes me want to abandon cable altogether and just stream.  A delay is a delay no matter how long it is

I am gong to contact an attorney tomorrow for a class action lawsuit  because xfinity makes claims to watch live sports which are not live.  [Edited: "Solicitation"]

Is Xfinity doing anything to fix this or just going to keep acknowledging that it's an issue and do nothing? I am constantly having things spoiled by phone alerts or texts from others when things haven't happened on tv yet. Sometimes it is still in a commercial when the Phillies score changes. Why is the regional sports fee continuing to increase when I could just stream the events at a slower delay than watching through cable? The problem has only gotten worse as the Phillies season continues.

Hello, @user_38888d The Regional Sports Fees is an itemized charge based on our costs of providing Regional Sports Networks (like The Big Ten Network and Marquee Sports Network) that we carry on our cable systems in each area. These costs include fees that Regional Sports Networks charge us to carry them on our cable systems, fees that are among the fastest-growing components of our programming costs. The increase in the Regional Sports Network Fee for 2024 reflects increasing charges to Comcast from regional sports networks.

I want to know why when I watch Phillies games there is a 10 - 15 second delay on the box vs the streaming app -- how is the streaming app ahead of the box?

Hello user_2fc3dc you can say "Philadelphia Phillies" into your Xfinity Voice Remote to see all available viewing options for this team or any team.  The delays via the streaming app or live TV are based on how that signal is received so that it can vary for different devices.

The Xfinity Stream App on my phone is closer to live than the cable.

Same here. We’re watching Euro 2024 finals and the Xfinity feed is a full 50 seconds behind my neighbor who has Verizon. So incredibly annoying that they are cheering way before us. Same thing happened with the NBA finals and Stanley Cup.

I am having the same problem too, for baseball it might be a full 60 to 90 seconds. I have a X1 box, was never an issue in the past. When I stream on my computer it is way ahead of the TV broadcast via the X1 box.

Thanks for reaching out, raider1996! Does the delay happen on every Xfinity box you have or only on certain ones.

Add me to the list of Xfinity customers who are fed up with delays of a minute, sometimes more, when I’m watching a game. I’m tired of friends texting me about a play long before I see it, and really tired of getting sports alerts from an app telling me the end of a tight game before I see it. It’s ridiculous. I’ve reset boxes many times. It does nothing. This is awful.

Greetings. I ran a live sports test today. My dad, who has Satelite Direct TV, should have been behind Live Cable but was 22 seconds ahead of my Xfinity cable, which was two plays in football.

My other friend has YouTube TV, which is streaming, and he was 18 seconds ahead of me. It's hard to talk to family and friends during games and have notifications on because Xfinity is so delayed.

It was like this last footbalk season and nothing has changed.

All I know is that they keep telling people to send a message with details to support and NOTHING gets fixed.

Had no idea that the problem was not just me.  Insane to see streaming ahead of cable TV from the same provider.  And yet the responses from Comcast employees here just ignore this.

It's crazy, Xfinity's response is that it is a normal delay. I am switching to YouTube TV much cheaper also.

Having your streaming app ahead of your cable TV feed is utterly ridiculous. That is just plain and simple wrong.

When online apps that simulate a game get updates before you see it on cable TV.

Wow.  Just wow.  Customer centric, they are not.

It’s definitely not a normal delay. I try to remind friends that I’m a good minute or so behind them—esp at the end of a close game—not to ruin it for me. I also silence my phone at the end so an alert doesn’t ruin it. I don’t get why they don’t address this.

Yep, I'm casting the app to my tv and it is still faster than watching the cable.

This is not an isolated, single customer issue. This is a Xfinity system issue. "Live" sports on Xfinity is showing nearly a minute behind actual live. I have a friend with FiOS who calls me about Phillies plays that I have not seen yet. I'm at least one, and often plays behind.  Verizon is subject to the same network delays as Comcast, but something different is going on with Xfinity. And, not just sports. The stock market closing bell on CNBC is nearly a minute behind the actual closing bell. For customers paying top, top dollar, this is unacceptable.

Mine too! At least 15 secs delayed compared to watching the phone app or texting with my friends who are watching in other states. Football games I'm at least a play behind them. Frustrating!

skintime It's normal for some delay to occur between live feeds as there is nothing we can do on our end to control that. This happens with every service provider to some degree. There will be times where I will see plays happen before my friend can see them, and some games he will be ahead in what's happening.

This is an absurd reply. If it happens from every provider to some degree why are all of the providers significantly ahead of Xfinity. Read these posts. We all deal with friends who are seeing plays way ahead of us. Often a minute. None of us are ever ahead of other providers. And I know many other customers who don’t post here but have the same experience. This is an Xfinity issue that’s far worse than other providers. I pay a lot of money for this substandard service.

I’m so sick of this issue that I may switch to Verizon. The canned nonsense replies from Comcast employees is insulting.

Somehow the delay in live sports for Xfinity has gotten WORSE.

Watching baseball, my MLB scoreboard on my phone shows 2 outs and I am not even out of commercial to start the inning. This NEEDS to be addressed.

Who do we contact? The chief experience officer??

Customer after customer, here and on other threads, has reported this issue, and the answer is almost always to submit a direct message, as if no one else had posted the problem.  It's maddening.
