IP forward

The problem that I have posted elsewhere has been narrowed down: Apparently comcast changes the IP address for IP forwarded servers. What are the Xfinity DNS IP's that I should assign to give to this device? I have everything using my internal DNS so I would need to add an exception for this device.

No Phone

Logging into the configuration portal directly at 10.0.0.1, there is now a splash screen stating to download the app on a phone to configure the gateway. The error I see in Outlook is an IP or DNS error. The IP address I checked using ARIN whois is assigned to Comcast in Naples

Question

In theory, using the DNS servers directly upstream from you should be faster, but I have found that is simply not the case with Xfinity in two different states.  In fact, I found them to be pretty unreliable in general with frequent timeouts like you

That device acts as a DNS forwarder / DNS relay which is why it gives the LAN / network clients an IP address that is the same as the gateway address. It's supposed to be that way. You just set the DNS server addresses to whatever you want them to be

MG8702 DNS

Just upgraded to a Motorola 8702 modem/ router combo, purchased 3rd party. How do I change this within the router so my devices will receive 8.8.8.8 via the ro

Accepted Solution

You can't set DNS on Xfinity gear. Another feature disabled. You might be able to set DNS manually on a client and point it at your own local resolver if you are trying to do that.  Maybe do it with a "hosts" file in your OS, or if it's a V

I need to make a small DNS entry on my home router

This is for work, I need to make a very simple entry in the DNS record for my home network to forward traffic for one url to one device. I cannot see a way to do it either in the Xfinity App or the router's admin page.
