Did I Get A Scam/Spam Xfinity Sales Call?

This afternoon (08/12/22) I received a pre-recorded voicemail supposedly from Comcast Xifinity. The number that called me was [Edited: "Personal Information"] in Rochester, NY.

The full message was:

”Hi there I'm calling you from Comcast Xfinity to let you know that your existing account is qualified for 50% off in order to avail the discount kindly call us back at [Edited: "Personal Information"] from 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific standard time thank you and have a great day.”

Is this message ligitimate? If not, who do I report it to? And how do I report it?

Thank you!

@user_1d7612, I'm bummed regarding these calls. As my teammate stated, Address and phone numbers can be public information, but having your account number, social security, or other private information is another category. Have you spoken with our Customer Secuirty Assurance or looked at filling out our form here? https://www.xfinity.com/idtheftclaimform

I've been getting these calls, also. I deleted the others but the one I received this morning supposedly came from Anderson, California ([Edited: "Personal Information"]) and the number they left to call is [Edited: "Personal Information"].

I also got one of these calls. Nearly identical.

"Hi there, I'm calling you from Comcast Xfinity to let you know that your existing account is qualified for fifty percent off. In order to avail the discount, kindly call us back at (855) 798-XXXX from 8am to 5pm Pacific Standard Time. Thank you and have a great day."

I assume it is a scam, but wow that decrease in price sure makes it tempting to call! Probably just a coincidence but we just had Breezeline install fiber in our neighborhood and they are marketing aggressively. Had a person door-to-door with a hard-sell on heavily discounted rates. Again, very tempting. Been a customer of Comcast for SO long. But honestly, I have recently been experiencing SO many internet interruptions daily in the past month - even interrupting 2 important video job interviews - that I may need to consider the jump. Don't want to, but might need to.

@jtbdsmm This would most certainly be a scam call as mentioned earlier in the thread by other Xfinity employees, and we do recommend contacting our Customer Security Assurance team at the phone number and links provided by my colleagues above.

I am so sorry to hear about the multiple service interruptions in the past months. When these interruptions happened, did you check on the Xfinity app to see if these were known service interruptions affecting the wider area, or just interruptions happening on your own home connection?

I got thr same call today about my account is eligible for 50% off my existing bill. I love to waste these scammers time so I called back and spoke with a "xfinity" member. She told me I could get 50% locked in for 2 years and all I had to pay was 449.99. I said oh that would be great!!!! She then asked for my bank numbers. I was speaking to her in a thick thick London accent lol. For 35 minutes we went back and forth, of course all the numbers I was giving her were all fake numbers. I was telling her there is something wrong with her hearing and that she may wanna try a hearing aid :)) then she asked me for my social security number and that she would be able to look up my file and get the bank numbers on record. I told her how about I just give you my password and you can just go into my account and get it that way. She said she couldn't be able to do that so I proceeded to say my password which was S T O P T R Y I N G 2 S C A M  P P L ! There was a big pause and she said sir do you want the discount or not I said yes what are you talking about. Well you just said your password was stop scamming ppl. I said yes did it work. Listen you aint helping me can I speak to your boss or someone else. She transferred me and I got a man this time and walked him into the same routine. After being on the phone wasting these scam artists for a hour and fourteen minutes. I asked him how it felt to be scammed cz nothing I've told you was close to being correct. He started swearing at me lol. I said ooooh you're mad at me because you didn't scam me out of 450 bucks and all I did was waste your time? Imagine how the people that are gullible and you do end up scamming. Imagine how they feel. Get a real job and be a honest person in society I promise if you stick with it you get yo a place in life you'll wanna be in. As of right now unfortunately you're just a Muppet enjoy your weekend Gonzo. How I love wasting their time. The way I see it is if they are on the phone with me, it keeps them off the phone with another person that may fall for it. Becareful Xfinity family. The old saying is true. If it sounds to good to be true it usually is. Enjoy your week end guys. I hope this read put a smile on your face.

Hello @im4nits We currently do not have any offers like this available, and you can always view our available promotions for you by logging into www.xfinity.com/learn/offers   It's important to keep in mind that we will never ask for upfront payments in the form of things like gift cards as well. We also have a helpful website here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/protect-yourself-phone-scams   which will go over how to identify, avoid, and report these types of phone scams as well as a link to a list of current known security alerts.

Have you gotten a call claiming to be from Comcast asking you to buy gift cards or paying upfront for six months or more in exchange for 50% off your bill?  If so, the FTC is well aware of this scam.  If you get a call like this you can report it to     https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/

I received the same call just now. My curiosity always gets the better of me so I called the number back and was told that in order to get the 50% off you need to pay 6 months up front and then the discount kicks in. I used to work for Comcast and know that they do not have any promotions like this. On a lighter note I sure had a good time playing with the caller. I sure hope that no one falls for this [Edited: "Language"].

Reporting 2 calls I got, same as above, from [Edited: "Personal Information"] offering 50% off for 2 years AFTER you pay the first 6 months up front.    I ignored the first one and called back the send time, curious, and this is the information that was shared with me.  You have 24 hours to send them the money LOL.  I'll tell you the on-hold messaging is pretty authentic.  Don't be fooled though, when it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Hello, @

user_c202a1. As mentioned by @Again, this is likely not an offer from us and is someone phishing for your information. What I can do is look into offers that are actually available for your account. I do also recommend reaching out to our Customer Security Assurance Team at 1-888-565-4329. They'll be able to look into your Xfinity account for any security breaches. I am embarrassed to say that I fell for this scam. The telephone number I called had an xFinity recording so it sounded legit. More concerning is how the scammers zeroed out the balance on my Xfinity app. And now I have a credit of $300. So unless the acct payment and credit are bogus, we’ve been able to recover some of our money. Scary how they accessed our account.

I just got a call yesterday (November 12, 2022) about this Target Gift card promotion. They called and said I could get my bill cut in half if I paid for 2 years up front. They knew my monthly fee and my current balance. The "deal" was to go purchase a $500 Target gift card and put my 2 year prepayment on the gift card and to call the 800 number and pay it off within 3 days. Or if I could do this in 2 hours, they would take another $25 off my balance for fast action. The caller stated that it was a promotion with Target Retail store helping Xfinity customers. (Really?? That was what gave it away) They sent me a text message saying my November balance was paid up. The caller was foreign and was very pushy. I called their 800 # and it was an Xfinity billing department, [Edited: "Personal Information"] or so it seemed. I went online to my xfinity account and my balance was still there. Then I looked up this forum to confirm it was a scam. Now, what can we do to the scammers? Any ideas?

Its a scam and they are good! After a few minutes they knew my name, my balance and past due amount?  They got my phone number when I called them, then I gave them my billing zip.  I assume they spoofed my number and called Xfinity.   Xfinity's system speaks your name when you call from your primary number.  With the zip, they can access balance and past due balance.  Then they paid my balance using a fake credit card I guess because my balance went to zero?  At least until the card is rejected.

I will call Xfinity later, when I have 3 hours to sit on hold and talk to 6 different departments.  I wished these guys were honest and worked for Xfinity.

I received a call from what I thought was Comcast from [Edited: "Personal Information"]. They asked what my current monthly bill was, I gave them that information. Then said I could get same programming I have now for 2 years for 139.00 a month. I would have to pay first and last month up front. I knew it was a scam then and hung up.

I was a victim of the Target scam last night and realized it too late.  They mirrored my account and supposedly "paid" my current bill.  I am out a lot of money and am mortified that I actually fell for this.  It has to be an inside job because they had all of my info and I was getting text messages exactly like ones I've received in the past.  I would like to talk to someone about this.  Please advise who I can report the incident to?

Thank you

I was also a victim of the Target scam and also realized when it was too late.  I fell for it because they had access to my account information.  I did not provide them with my information.  So I agree with the other comments that this is an inside job, or someone has sold personal information to the scammers.  I too am out alot of money.  On top of this fake promotion, I received a similar offer by Xfinity sales promotion, partnering with Target and AT&T.  My cell phone bill was likewise zeroed out for the month.  That person with Xfinity billing was "Kevin Thomas."  I was told by "Kevin" there was a transaction error with the gift cards and was instructed to purchase more gift cards and I would be reimbursed for the first set that produced the error.  At this point, I knew it was a scam and I too was mortified that I fell for it.  By the time I realized this was a scam, I was out another great deal of money and my bank shut down my debit cards for suspicious activity.  The reason that this promotion seemed real was because they had access to my accounts and my information - my name, address, billing amounts and everything. I told "Kevin," who was later calling himself "Mark," that I would not go forward with the so-called promotion, he began yelling at me and sent me a threatening text.  They also directed another $400 payment to Xfinity from my bank account, and I received a text from Xfinity that $400 was paid toward my account.  I also received a threatening text saying that my credit would be ruined, I would be fined $1500, and my social security benefits would be revoked.  I had to open a new bank account because these people are still accessing my information. I spoke with Xfinity Security on 11/12/22 and was given an ticket number.  I was also told there were another $200 and $300 payments pending on my account that would come from my bank account.  The Security rep cancelled those payments.  I have yet to hear from anyone regarding the incident.  I filed complaints with the Attorney General, FTC, my local police, and the Better Business Bureau.  I was advised to also file a report with the FBI, which I have done.
