Why is LIVE TV delayed 45 seconds?
I know this problem is heavily complained about and have no real answer, but I wanted to make sure my issue was recorded when there is hopefully some sort of lawsuit.
Why is the live broadcast on my cable box 45 seconds behind the Xfinity Stream app? And 1 minute behind ESPN live score updates? Friends watching games via streaming services text me game updates before I see the plays occur on my cable box.
- Xfinity is literally running a commercial during every football game this year about how their internet is so good that their streams aren't delayed
- This occurs on almost every channel. Some are more delayed than others. Local channels are affected the most. Fox right now is 45 seconds behind the Stream app
- Xfinity Box: XG1v4-A
- For comparison, I am streaming the game at the same time on my Apple TV 4k via Xfinity Stream. I am 45 seconds behind.
- I have changed out the HDMI cables, both HDMI 2.1 and HDMI 2.0 versions. I have tried different HDMI inputs on my TV
- I have done multiple system refreshes
- This has been happening for 2-3 years w/ 2 separate Xfinity boxes. It has recently gotten worse though.
Is there anything I can do locally until Xfinity maybe improves their connection between the channels and their customers?

Friends and family have FIOS and are texting updates about the game a full 45 to 60 seconds before I see it.

I see a lot of people commenting about channels having delays but I feel like you’re referring to xfinity being behind other cable providers/streaming services. I was watching Sunday night football and I was legitimately a whole minute behind my friend who was watching on YouTube TV. It’s unacceptable especially when you consider how much we are paying for xfinity. I hope they figure this out and fix it.

Add the Grand Rapids, MI market to the delays. As everyone else is saying, I'm on the phone with friends on YouTube TV, satellite (Dish), FIOS, etc. and they are all 45 seconds or more ahead of me on almost all channels. The delay has only gotten worse in the last year and continues to increase. It ruins it for every sporting event when you're almost a minute behind everyone else. I have an X1 box using coax. Incredibly, when I switch to the Xfinity Streaming app on my cell phone, it's actually about 10-15 seconds faster than the coax/X1 box to the house which has never been the case in the past. Thanks!

Update - I did some testing on my own and here is what I found. I have a Roku TV and I use the Xfinity Streaming App on it. This TV is a good 45-90 seconds behind the live sports that I am watching. I also logged into my laptop and use the Xfinity Streaming (Chrome Browser) but with a 2.4GHz and found that this also had a delay similar. I also tried the Xfinity Streaming (Chrome Browser as well) but with the 5.0 GHz and found that this had no delays. I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not but worth checking your WiFi connection on your laptop or Smart TVs. Hopefully this is helpful. Good luck!

Add New Hampshire to another region where this delay issue is occurring. I am watching the Dolphins and Titans game on ESPN and it is about 1 minute behind the streaming app on my iPhone. The box is an XG1v4 box running 4K UHD.
i am also seeing the auto fast-forward problem on DVR recordings where I have to manually fast forward the last minute of commercials.
i fully understand the delay built in for intercepting questionable content. But please do not tell me a minute is built in for censoring. This delay exists for sporting events and movies.
i would like to know the root cause of this issue and an ETA for when the issue will be resolved. It looks like a problem with HD decompression and by the repeated posts that all look the same, the problem is wide-spread. I have seen no resolution in any of the posts.

I am having the exact same issue and have called Xfinity multiple times and no one seems to be able to figure out why. It’s beyond frustrating

The reps won't tell you the real answer in here. They will keep giving you the run around saying to reset the box or call a tech. They tried to tell me it's bc of the fcc delay. Really the issue is comcast has basically made all their boxes a cloud device. So you are basically streaming channels to your TV which are now delayed worse then regular streaming devices. I've seen posts of people saying you need the RNG150N box which is a analog device. But I have had no luck getting one

Lots of Xfinity employees replying in this thread with non-answers, which is compounding the problem and making customers like me more frustrated.
Why won't the company acknowledge this is by design? It is clear that it is. Suggesting half baked troubleshooting steps has proven to be unproductive.

The delay with the cable box has been absolutely atrocious. And the answer is always the classic: “well it has to jump through a few network hoops” but then the xfinity stream app is literally ahead of the cable box and that has to jump through more hoops! I’ve been given no real explanation by any tech who’s come out or customer support employee. I’m done resetting my cable box, I’m done being erroneously charged $100 for a tech to come for a legitimate issue and having to fight it every [Edited: "Language"] time. I’m done with this awful service.

Yea this is a widespread issue. My xfinity was once ahead of AT&T in the area, now it’s 60+ seconds behind. It’s clearly their hardware lacking because the streaming is 45 seconds ahead of the cable broadcast.

This can create unfair advantages/disadvantages for online sports gamblers. Really should be cleaned up.

The delay can create advantages/disadvantages for online sports betters. This should really be cleaned up for that reason alone.

Abc countdown at 35 seconds. Look at phone its already midnight. Comcast is a terrible company anymore. Quality is terrible delay is terrible but keep charging more. Still waiting on a response from someone who works here with an answer and no you ain't charging me more for a box. Fix your equipment and delays. [Edit: inflammatory]
