Set Channel Manual Recording Button Missing

Today the “Record” option when I click into every channel is just completely missing on all of my DVRs. I use this all the time to set a manual recording, and this is the first time it is not there for some reason. It is way more reliable to record this way for long events for the exact time I want than extending or doing any type of auto extend option.

Please advise, is this a temporary glitch that is going to be fixed soon?

I want to second this... the option to manually record a channel for a specific time is no longer available.  It was working yesterday.  Rebooting the box doesn't help.

Hello, Xfinity? This glitch is still happening for the third day in a row with no response. Getting pretty frustrated, especially after having yet another complete service outage in my neighborhood yesterday as well.
Can you please escalate this issue I’ve brought up in the original post to the correct tech team that can look into this and fix it?

binaural2000 Hello! Thank you for reaching out to us here on our Community Forum. We can confirm that this is a known issue that our Engineers are actively working to resolve. There is unfortunately no fix in place at this time, but we hope that will change soon.

Thank you for the update.  I'm so glad to hear that this issue is being worked on, and that manual recording hasn't been taken away as I'd feared.

Tcalg I am sure our Engineers will work a way to get it back. Apart from the feature are you happy with your line of service?

@XfinityBenjaminM I was told by several people they are getting rid of the option to do manual recordings so who's telling the truth about this. You can't fix a known issue with something that no longer exist. Why not tell us the truth about this. Covering up something and saying it's a known issue and they are working on fixing something that no longer exist as a feature is not right at all.

Agreed, this needs to be fixed immediately and should not be that difficult.

Revert to the last working software version while you debug what caused this problem.

You should also let us make the recordings reoccurring so I don't have to set them for every day...

And let us type the hours and minutes using the numbers on the remote control keypad, instead of having to thumb through every number between 00 and 59 just to set the minutes!

And the big one... let us specify an EXACT ending time, instead of just "record 30 minutes" or "record 1 hour".

💯 agree!

I have DIRECTV as well, their UI blows Xfinity away!

I contacted Xfinity as well last Thursday. Some lady named Betsy called me back from Xfinity. She said manual recording are no more. Why people from Xfinity on this forum are saying it's a known issue and saying they are working to fix something that no longer exist is a bunch of [Edited: "Profanity"]. You can't fix something you get rid of. I am [Edited: "Language"] off about this as well. Xfinity should bring back manual recordings or allow you to set shows for whatever hours you need to get longer recordings.

Once again, I am beyond confused here.

Xfinity Benny, you state that the issue is still open and being worked on, and will be fixed soon. While Xfinity Orlando now follows up here and says, nope the feature was just taken away and will not be brought back. Which is accurate?

If it is being taken away, please reverse the decision as it just makes no sense. If I’m scheduling a bunch of recordings days out, it is SO much easier and faster to just set my own manual recording for the exact time range I want on a channel. Having to record a bunch of different time slots and extending them all is annoying, especially when program times shift and change and don’t even end up recording then at all. Why create unnecessary annoyance to your long time customers? What is the point of removing it? Does it save you money on back end cloud storage or something?

There is a ticket open for this concern. So our engineers are working on it. I am sorry for any incorrect information that may have been provided. It is a known issue and our engineers are working on it.

If you Google the issue, Google AI says this recording feature was taken away.  One step closer for me and my $400 a month

going to Directv satellite. 40 year customer....but when you take away for NO REASON a feature I use , have my TV go out (non streaming cable)

every time the internet goes out, and lastly force me to watch lousy CLOUD NFL and NBA recordings, I have just about had enough.

Xfinity, what is the update on this? Per this thread, multiple employees stated do not worry about reports that this feature has been taken away, those employees are incorrect as there are still open active service tickets that will fix and restore this feature.

Crickets and zero updates since then obviously. So what is the current status as of today?

@XfinityBillie,

Could you please explain why this is so complex to fix?

This feature has been unavailable and being worked on for a month. How are we to believe that if they can't fix it in a

month, that they are  going to fix it at all?  Or explain how taking this away makes my "customer experience" better?

@tbill1 I completely understand where you're coming from. It's difficult to say how long this will take to get resolved. What I can tell you is that our team is dedicated in finding the root cause of this problem and a permanent solution so that it doesn't happen again. I'm sure we'll make a huge announcement once we've resolved this. Until then, all we can do is wait.

@XfinityRaul,

If this is an error that still needs to be fixed, then why do we have a message ( Record Option Unavailable)

instead of an error code?

I used this option every day to record the first hour of Morning Joe. I dont want all 3 hours. The options left where setting a manual recording with stop start option are totally worthless and redundant. Did anyone ask if we wanted this change? The answer is no. Bring it back!!!!

Can someone please explain the support document https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-record-a-program, which was linked to by @XfinityOrlandoM?  It explicitly states "Channel-based recordings between designated start and end times are no longer available as of August 2026".  Why would someone go to the trouble of typing up a support document, mentioning a specific date, if this wasn't a planned thing?
