Message that OnDemand and SVOD packages will no longer be available for legacy customers.

We currently have the older legacy cable boxes.  We are receiving a msg via email and when trying to go to OnDemand that OnDemand and SVOD packages will no longer be available for us to use as soon as May 31st.  We are being instructed to update our equipment to X1 boxes.  From what I am seeing on the forums, everyone with legacy equipment is seeing this.  We do not have Xfinity for our internet provider, we have AT&T for our phones and internet.  Will the new X1 boxes work with a competitor internet provider?  We really don't want to lose OnDemand service, so we don't seem to have any choice but to order new X1 boxes.  Does anyone know definitively if the X1 boxes will work without having Xfinity for your internet provider?  Do I have to request a "special" type of X1 box that has better compatibility?  I went to my local Xfinity store and they really couldn't answer the compatibility question.  They said just order the new stuff and see what happens.  Help !!

As of today, those of us using one of the Legacy Cable boxes, and not using Comcast for Internet, may or may have ON DEMAND. Some brand or model of Legacy Cable-box may still have it. My Cisco RNG150N has not had ON DEMAND for over a year now. I am still waiting to hear what box might work. I am holding off changing until we hear more.

@MNtundraRET Thank you for your response.  I was invited to direct message someone at Xfinity and I am waiting for their response as to the compatibility factor with a competitor internet interfacing with their X1 cable.

All X1 types of Boxes require Comcast Internet in order to get any type of update.
