MSG

Just looking for any information regarding xfinity's stance on the MSG network. I'm looking to become an xfinity member, but may consider another option if MSG is blacked out starting October 1st. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello @user_03b008, thanks for reaching out for help on our forums! Our agreements with programmers expire from time to time. We have been negotiating with MSG Networks to reach a fair deal that makes sense for our customers before the current one expires, allowing us to continue offering MSG and MSG+ on our channel lineup, but have not been able to come to an agreement. We hope to resolve this with the network soon under terms that make sense for our customers and our business.

@XfinityNico I've been an Xfinity customer for some years now, and losing access to my teams (Knicks / Rangers specifically) is not a good thing and unless a deal is reached in the next few weeks, I will be seriously looking into another provider, likely FIOS.

@XfinityNico that's nonsense. You and your reps at Xfinity should have had a deal a long time ago. I'll be switching providers ASAP

@XfinityNico

Why am I being charged for a Regional Sports Fee when Comcast does not provide any regional sports?

The MSG Network provides so much sports entertainment, especially going into the Hockey and Basketball seasons.

Maybe you should renegotiate with some of the other networks to get you your cost savings, but messing with the Rangers, Knicks, Islanders, Nets and Devils at this time is absolutely unacceptable.  The NHL and NBA seasons are going to happen and we will watch them with or without you Comcast.

Please do the right thing now!!!

I pay an outrageous cable bill for like 5 channels that i actually watch. Msg is one of them. It needs to come back or consider me cancelled. There is a Rangers game on tonight that i will go see somewhere else and if i have to do that, i dont need you.

Exactly.

The only reason I hadn't cut the cord is local sports.

Good morning! I know how frustrating this is truly. We are sorry for any inconvenience and understand this kind of change is unexpected.

On September 30, 2021 at 11:59 PM EST, our agreement to carry MSG Networks expired and we no longer have the rights to carry the channels (MSG and MSG+). Comcast’s agreements with programmers expire from time to time. We had been negotiating with MSG Networks to reach a fair deal that made sense for our customers before the current one expired, allowing us to continue offering MSG and MSG+ on our channel lineup, but were not able to come to an agreement.

With so many people cutting the cord Xfinity should be ensuring that this nonsense never occurs.  We pay a regional sports fee.  How about bringing customers regional sports? Wake up before you lose more customers to the plethora of other options available to them.

Now I will start planning to "cut the cord".  MSG Go was one of the few services that I actually use.

Its insane to think that a cable company would wait this late to inform its customers that they will be losing channels. MSG is one of the main channels I watch for local sports and if they do not intend to resolve this matter quickly they can consider me a former customer for the foreseeable future. I just looked into Verizon Fios the packages they are offering are actually larger for less money. Thank God they are finally available in my area. Address this concern match their deal or consider me gone.

Good morning, @user_1db10a, and thank you for reaching out about the MSG channel today! I'm sorry to see that you have been impacted by a recent change in our channel lineup.

Comcast’s agreements with programmers expire from time to time. We had been negotiating with MSG Networks to reach a fair deal that made sense for our customers before the current one expired, allowing us to continue offering MSG and MSG+ on our channel lineup, but were not able to come to an agreement.

We pay networks, local TV station owners and others for the ability to deliver their programming to our customers. The fees vary based on factors such as the type of content, the popularity of the network, and the demand for its content, among others.

Rising programming costs, notably broadcast TV, and sports carriage costs we incur but do not fully recover, continue to be the biggest factor driving price increases. While we absorb some of these costs, these fee increases affect pricing for customers. We work hard to limit the impact of this on our customers’ bills and are committed to providing the best programming at the best possible value. Since we were not able to reach a new agreement with MSG, we will reduce the RSN Fee in the applicable areas.

Nationally televised Ranger, Islander and Devils games will be available on TBS and ESPN. Nationally televised Knicks games will be on ESPN and TNT. MSG/MSG+ are available on Fubo. Please check your local listings for games that may be airing in your area.

No MSG and I cut the cord.

I'm turned upside down and shaken for every penny of my bill every month. This is inexcusable. From putting channels I originally signed up for into higher-tier packages I refuse to pay for (i.e., "bait-and-switch") to this nonsense now with their crying victim instead of doing what they need to do to keep channels WE PAY FOR every month, this is the excuse I have been looking for to cut the cord. Enough is enough. If this nonsense is not resolved before the start of the hockey season I am done.

@XfinityMacey

Any updates on resolving this issue? Paying subscribers who are invested in their sports teams deserve what they want!  We pay through the roof already!  TBS and ESPN will not be airing every game, and we are blacked out from subscription services!

In addition to monthly TV charge, Comcast charges a "Regional Sports Fee" of $10.75! And now they have dropped MSG networks. This is very unfair to your customers.

They cry like they are the victim here, meanwhile they never think twice about pulling a bait-and-switch with your package like putting channels like TCM and CMT is a SPORTS package to shake you down for more money - all while gladly taking your 10.75 regional sports fee and cancelling regional sports channels. Unless they stop the nonsense and resolve this fast, this is the last straw. The cord cutting scissors are on standby.

After having dealt with the YES blackout a few years ago, I am not going to deal with this nonsense again. I've had to put up with multiple insufferable bait-and-switch package changes from Comcast (like putting TCM in a top-tier sports package) trying to squeeze more dollars out of my wallet and this is likely to be the last straw. I've been looking for an excuse to cut the cord for a while now. If I do not have access to MSG for the 2021-2022 hockey season, I think it's time to get the scissors.

Don't bother signing up for Comcast/Xfinity.

They have a history of dropping networks as a negotiation ploy to pressure content providers. They have done this numerous times in the past (such as with YES, Discovery) without any regard for their customers.

So Verizon can come to an agreement today and Comcast can’t?   Just shows you guys are money grabbing even more!!!! You are such a (edited language) company and have proved year after year you only care about your high executives and shareholders!

[Edit: Inflammatory]  You have until

October 14tb to straighter this mess out or I’m gone. First Rangers game is on TNT on Oct 13 next day back on MSG.  If the channel is not up

by then I’m taking my $200 + a month check I send you and will be going to FUBU or Directv.  Not a bluf!   If I don’t get Rangers games on MSG no need for you!

There are alternatives if they force our hands, tonight I watched MSG via FUBO. Picture was great, great sound high quality. I am on a trial awaiting what happens between Comcast and MSG. If this winds up like a YES situation then next move is internet only service, FUBO for the Rangers and Knicks and Netflix etc. Overall price will be lower than what I am paying now and I won't be begging Comcast to broadcast our major regional sports teams.

It is a disgrace that Xfinity's response to the MSG fiasco is that channel watchers are "non-existent". I wonder if they will consider the amount of money to be lost if every one of those "non-existent" watchers gets [Edited: "Language"] enough to drop them. I have been literally waiting YEARS for a decent Knicks team and as soon as they make the playoffs, [Edited: "Language/Inflammatory"]. Shame on both MSG and Xfinity for putting their customers last AGAIN!
