E. W. Scripps Programming Agreement Expired

E. W. Scripps cable network programming is currently unavailable as our agreement with E. W. Scripps has expired.

Please know we pay programmers to bring you the entertainment you love, and a number of reasonable offers have been made and they haven’t been accepted. Comcast is working toward bringing back this programming, but only with fair pricing, terms, and conditions for customers. I know unexpected changes to your TV lineup can be frustrating, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

Well. Here’s one more reason to cut the cord. If I have to pay to watch local tv and channels that NEVER cost me before. I guess I can do better with just streaming.
shame on you Comcast/xfinity!!!! Tell your CEO and board people to take a little cut and SERVE and support your customers!!!

user_gtvtjp Comcast’s agreement with E. W. Scripps (Scripps) to carry its programming expired on Tuesday, March 31 at 5:59 p.m. ET. As a result, Comcast is no longer able to offer this programming, including related Xfinity Stream and On Demand content. Despite multiple reasonable renewal proposals, an agreement has not yet been reached with E. W. Scripps, the owner of these local broadcast stations. This is why the channel is currently unavailable. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your understanding.

In So. Florida, I'm not receiving NBC.  When will this situation be resolved?

They charge me almost $40 per month for local channels I already have on my antenna! In fact, my antenna receives over 40 channels! They have the capability to disable those channels and adjust my bill accordingly. But they won't

Bring back channel 7 or start refunding $

My bill went up but my services/channels available went down. How does Xfinity reconcile that? Xfinity tries to argue that it allowed the Scripps programming to end because it didn't want to pass high costs off to customers. Then how do you explain the currently exorbitant price with less services? How much of a monthly refund will all of the Xfinity customers be receiving for the channel(s) that is unavailable. Xfinity is simply interested in how its own profits can be.

We cannot watch channel 7 news, World News, American Idol and several other shows,  why can't this be worked out.   This is regular TV, we are thinking of canceling Xfinity and switching to something else.  First you canceled watching Tiger games, now regular TV.  What's next.

Apparently all of the news stations that I’m interested in are now gone. Is my bill going to be reduced moving forward? What’s an alternative to being able to watch the same shows that were on Scripps ? If you’re saving money by not offering those scripps services moving forward are our bills going to go down or if you are able to make a deal with them, how much is our bill going to go up?

I agree!  Xfinity/Comcast had same issue in 2024 with Bally Sports (Diamond Sports) channel 39 viewing Miami Marlins baseball games in South Florida viewing area and was not resolved until 08-01-24 and missed 4+ months of the 2024 season. Tried streaming from Bally app and was poor results so gave up on trying to view these games. Xfinity never notified viewers when dispute was resolved in late July and was to resume games on 08-01-24. I found out 08-17-24 on internet article that contract dispute had ended. Poor communications from Xfinity. Shortly after in October 2024 Xfinity switched it to Fanduel Sports Network. Now in 2026 Xfinity receives Marlins games from Marlins TV and that was not in place until day before start of season 03-27-26. Never ending.

Will miss the last 8.5 games of Florida Panthers starting 03-31-26. At least Xfinty notified me by email on 03-31-26 of the contract dispute.

Only good thing is that Panthers are having a poor season and out of playoffs, otherwise would be worse. I still wanted to watch their final games so another Xfinity contract dispute. There should be automatic credits to monthly bills for every day the dispute and no contract continue. Maybe they would resolve these contract disputes quicker and stop with the blaming the other guy for not coming to an agreement. Takes two to negotiate and not have these interruptions. I watch a lot of sports so 90% of the channels in my Ultimate Tier plan are useless to me. The sporting events weigh much greater with me and more valuable to me in an adjustment from Xfinity. This constant interruption of my channel availability is a problem

Sounds good to be but I doubt very much if we’ll see any kind of credit on our bills. I’ve been with Xfinity for 20+ years. They certainly NOT accommodating!  Just saying……

I would like to know the same. I would like to know when Scripps and Xfinity are going to put on their big boy pants and work this out without increasing our bills exponentially. I was forced to go out and buy an antenna so that I could at least watch local stations that are affected; I should not have to do that with the plan and the amount of money that I’ve spent with Xfinity for 20 years now. I would hope that all of us are going to have a discount on our next bills and until this is straightened out.

I also found the way that all of a sudden this happened in the middle of watching a show on ABC last Tuesday evening…literally in the middle of it all the channel disappeared. Seemed like a pretty immature way to handle this

Hi there! We completely understand why you’re asking, especially with ABC being such a popular channel.

At the moment, ABC programming isn’t available through Xfinity due to ongoing negotiations with E. W. Scripps Company.

They’ve declined our current offers and are requesting significantly higher rates, which would directly impact our customers’ monthly bills. Because of that, we haven’t been able to reach an agreement yet.

In the meantime, if you’re looking to continue watching ABC content, you may want to check out streaming options like Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, or fuboTV, which often carry ABC depending on your area.

We know this isn’t ideal, and we truly appreciate your patience while this is being worked through. If anything changes, we’ll be sure to keep everyone updated.

@XfinityAirelle  I am quite upset about not having access to the local affiliate of ABC, WXYZ, here in the Detroit area. Really, if you think I believe that you, Comcast, are protecting us from unreasonable price increases demanded by Scripps, than you're pretty dumb. And I know you aren't. The media empire acquired through your acquisitions and the gleaming skyscraper(s) I see in Philadelphia make it abundantly clear that you're very successful at making big profits. And long-time subscribers like myself were probably the source of the big cashflow that enabled much of it.  And this isn't the first time, you have entered into these kind of ridiculous contract disputes, claiming innocence. As I said, I don't believe you for a second. It seems you're trying almost purposefully to drive us to another service or to finally decide to "cut the cable" once and for all. What a fakakta mess you are expecting us to put up with.

@XfinityAirelle so we can all expect lower bills since we are not getting all the basic channels, right?  With all the money your company makes, this is ridiculous. You should eat those extra costs and get those channels back!

We have not had access to CBS programming for over three weeks.  This includes the NCAA March Madness games, 60 minutes, the Masters, and more. As we have paid to get this programming, I believe all affected customers should receive a rebate or a credit on their next bill.  When will this situation be resolved? Where is the communication with customers? What is the status? It is really enough to make us "cut the cord"!

I have been a customer since 1992 and have never experienced a loss of a channel. I feel like this is a ploy to be able to raise the cost. I pay close to $400 a month and have not seen a discount since losing CBS…what’s up with that. Either bring back CBS, lower the rate or be prepared to lose long time customers.

@Volsgal, please know we pay programmers to bring you the entertainment you love, and many reasonable offers have been made, but they haven’t been accepted. Comcast is working toward bringing back this programming, but only with fair pricing, terms, and conditions for customers. I know unexpected changes to your TV lineup can be frustrating, and I apologize for any inconvenience. For more information, visit https://www.xfinity.com/programmingchanges.

I feel sure that xfinity is not just negotiating on behalf of customers. If they are, tell us how much the bill would go up and let us have a say in the matter. I promise Xfinity is losing something else or they would simply jack up the price and move on. Leverage is at risk in my opinion.

Is there going to be a refund for the loss of this station? As much as people are paying for XFinity there should be refunds for the loss of the channel for so long…otherwise people, You Tube TV is looking better all the time!!

I can't  believe that Comcast needs more money than they already get.

Jeez  you people need to be reasonable  with each other in these negotiations.

Nobody needs that much money.

Just fix it or I  will find another cable company  by the end of April.

We pay more than $200.00 per month, witch is more than we can afford. Our social security does not allow for any more $$$.

Unbelievable,  just get on with it.

You are going to lose a lot of customers. I've already canceled about half my Xfinity programming and I'm ready to buy a Roku TV to go completely streaming - for what I'm paying to not be able to get my favorite local NBC WPTV 5 channel due to your argument with Scripps - this isn't right.

I assume Xfinity/Comcast will reduce our monthly rate until you restore this major network -- Fox -- to our cable system in Lansing MI.
