Comet TV on channel 1186 was replaced with Charge TV

Today on Comcast Cable, channel 1186, which was Comet TV, was changed to Charge TV. Comet TV is no longer available on Comcast!! This is a big upset for me! Would you please bring Comet TV back to comcast? I miss all the great shows and movies.

I’m completely upset. I’ve been looking for Comet tv for the last 20 minutes and I finally went here and found this. Why would Comcast do this? I’m angry.

X-Files on Comet is a staple of our evenings!  Can't believe Xfinity would remove it!  This is very upsetting!

It was a staple of my evening too. I’m gonna miss Mulder and Scully. My only consolation is that I actually do like CSI Miami, which is in the same time slot. Hopefully they’ll bring back Comet at some point.

Our households have the same tastes ... my wife was happy they have season 6 of CSI: Miami.

Anyways, both Comet and Charge (along with Roar and The Nest) are owned by the same company, the rather dodgy Sinclair Broadcast Group.  It's likely they asked for the swap for advertising purposes based on their 8/13/25 investor press release.

Also, on the schedule it shows the channel going back to Comet on 9/7 ... though that is likely just a Comcast mistake.  I'm not 4imprint certain.

@Zaxxon25, thanks for filling in everyone on more about this change. Would you mind letting us know where you are seeing the information that Comet will be returning on 9/7?

1) Go to the guide

2) select channel 1186

3) move forward in the guide to 9/7

4) the programming changes from Charge shows to Comet shows (the name of the channel on the guide does not change)

alternatively ...

1) Hit the Xfinity button

2) Search for X-Files (or any other Comet show like Grimm)

3) Go to episodes

4) Go to upcoming

5) It shows episodes airing starting 9/7

Comet TV has disappeared from Xfinity and now Cartoon Network requires a separate subscription. Why am I paying for Xfinity when the only channels left are ones I don't watch. I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription and finally cutting the cord since Xfinity is no longer making it worthwhile to subscribe.

Totally agree. Way overpriced. I’m studying alternatives as we speak. Fire stick, antenna etc. Every time I ask for a better price they make it unattractive and I feel stuck. This is a very greedy and socially cruel company who will go the way of AT&T. They started sending people checks for 100’s of bucks to switch back to them. It was disgusting. This company Strong arms you and thinks that there’s no backlash but it will come, trust me. Greedy.

Hello @tekie I am sorry to hear of the loss of Comet TV from your plan. Comet TV was broadcast from the local affiliate in your area. We do not control what they choose to broadcast. We just carry your local networks. What they choose to put on is there decision. We know you and many others are upset by this. Any official channel changes from us can be found at https://www.xfinity.com/programmingchanges

@XfinityMatthew Thanks for your message. There must something that Comcast can do to help us! Maybe provide a signed petition to the local broadcaster requesting that they return the Comet channel?

@tekie - Comet TV and Charge! TV are both owned by the same parent company, the Sinclair Broadcast Group. These channels are often carried by local network affiliates, and it's the local affiliate that makes the decision about what sub-channels to broadcast. The change was likely initiated by the Sinclair Broadcast Group for business or advertising purposes.

While we can't bring the channel back on our own, there are still a couple of things you can do to express your desire to see Comet TV return:

1. Contact the Local Broadcaster: Since the decision rests with the local affiliate, your best bet is to contact them directly. You can find out which local affiliate carries Comet TV in your area by visiting the Comet TV website's "Find Comet" section.

2. Contact Comet TV Directly: The Comet TV website has a "Contact Us" or "Feedback" page where you can submit a message. They are likely to be aware of the situation and may be able to provide more insight or at least register your feedback.

Some users on the Xfinity community forums have noted that when they look at the programming guide for channel 1186 in the future (specifically on September 7th, 2025, in some markets), the scheduled shows change from Charge! programming to Comet TV's lineup. While this could be a mistake in the guide, it's worth checking your own local guide to see if there is any indication that the channel may return. You can also try searching for a specific Comet TV show on your Xfinity box and see if there are any "upcoming" airings scheduled.

While a signed petition is a great idea to show collective support, the most direct path to a resolution would be to engage with the entities that have control over the channel's broadcast: your local affiliate and the Sinclair Broadcast Group themselves. Please let me know if this helps!
