RDK-03033 Errors

About a week ago, we started getting three or four cable box crashes a day. The video just locks up and the cable box needs to be restarted. The "My Account" app still thinks everything is fine and there are no outages. I've checked the connections and they are all tight. At this point not sure what to do next. To recap, we did the following:

  1. Check connections
  2. Restarted cable box
  3. Uplugged cable box for 30 seconds and repowered

Although each time the box restarts, it is still crashing 3 to 4 times a day. Any ideas would be appreciated

RDK-03033 error message

We have two X1 cable boxes in our home, one in the living room and one in a personal bedroom. For the last few days, when trying to change channels, we receive a RDK-03033 error message. All plugs and wires have checked and double checked, yet in continues. DVR recordings as well as Netflix, Hulu and other internet apps continually flake out. Is this a company wide problem? What can you do to fix this?

Re: RDK-03033 error message

We are having the EXACT same issue with the RDK-03033 error. We have only one box and no splitter in the house. Our issue began after we upgraded to the 1Gig internet service. The issue is intermittent. I have done a restart of the system from the X1 app, problem came back an hour later. Then did a hard restart by disconnecting power for 10 seconds and then powering back up. Problem came back the next night when watching DVR program. This time I waited five minutes (had to watch the commercials, HA painful!) The the error went away. Hour later, error popped up.......waited 10 minutes.....went away again. Everytime I check the app it stated that service shows NO Errors.

Bottom line, we should not have to reboot our system every couple of hours to deal with this.

RDK-03033 Error message

I am getting error code RDK-03033 every two hours, about 10 minutes before the hour (like 9:50, 11:50, etc.). I have done restarts and unplugged the cable box and called to report this error and got a system restart from Comcast. However, this error continues. It locks up my TV for about 10 minutes and then resolves itself--until two hours later it does it again. This has been happening for about three days.  Can you help to find a resolution to this?

Re: RDK-03033 error message

This has happen a couple times to us too.  It happens out of the blue and they have to send a tech out and do some magical repair that leaves me with some new piece of equipment to make it work. They don't charge me for it but it's always something.  When the next tech comes out they remove what ever was put there last and put something completely new in somewhere else. The system works great for a while then "bang" different TV's in the house start popping up with the error and locking up the TV.  We have to pull the power and plug it back in and let it reboot.  Mine started doing again last week so once again I guess I need a new doo hicky.

recent X1 software update shuts down X1 for 10 minutes every 2 hours

Over the past week, my X1s (both the DVR and two non-DVR boxes) stop responding for several minutes every few hours.  TV displays "We're having trouble connecting to the internet," error code RDK-03033.   Program/live TV keeps playing during the dusruption, but no inputs/changes can be made via the remote, so no changing channel, pausing playback, accessing Guide or DVR, or any other services.  There are several reports of this on this forum, and elsewhere.

This is not a cable issue (cables are tight and were swap-checked), this is not a hardware issue (happens on all of my boxes at different times, and happens to other users even after hardware replacement),, this has not been remedied by a signal refresh, this is most obviously a software issue as it started happening recently to multiple users.  Restarting the box works, temporarily, but obviously that cannot and should be done multiple times per day.  Other users have timed the problem, hence the 10 mintues every 2 hours cited.

Also, intermittantly, in between these disruptions, the show/recording freezes, and the following error message is displayed, "Please try again...we're having some trouble on our end...XRE-03061."  This happens from zero to a dozen times in between the aforementioned disruptions.

I have yet to see an Official Comcast Employee acknowlege this issue.  This is more than a minor inconvenience, it's a major service fail.  Is Comcast working a software fix for this problem?  Thank you.

RDK 03033 Error - Reboot doesnt work

I am getting tired of doing power resets to temporarily clear this problem.  If I am watching TV and decide to look at the guide or change channel - that darn message box pops up and I can't change channels.   Last night while watching Netflix - I lost connection to the program and it kicked me out twice - I have powered off for 10 sec and plugged it back in - I have reset the box from the Xi app until I am blue in the face - This is getting ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: RDK-03033 error message

Over the past week we have also started to get this error / issue often.  We have made sure the cable connections are good,  done TV box restarts and system refreshes, and sometimes just waited.  It goes away but then comes back again.  There have been no changes to our equipment or setup since it was installed.  The on-line chat had no next options and I have not seen any solutions in the forum.

I'm a first time user of the forum, so I was wondering if somebody from Xfinity monitors these message boards and provide feedback?

Thanks for any help.

Re: RDK-03033 error message

Afraid it would seem that no one from Comcast monitors the forum. This issue has been raised multiple times since March and no help other than to point toward the usual restart, connection suggestions found on line and on the app.

I have a Tech coming out on Saturday so will let you know if anything changes. I suspect for our system it may be that I had a box in a sare BR but no longer needed so returned box to Comcast. However the line is still hooked up at the outside box. Could be a signal leak. I would have just disconnected the line but I do not have the proper cap to install on the power booster to insure no line leakage......hence the need for a tech to come out.

Now last night we were able to watch multiple DVR shows with no issue. I probably just jinxed us for tonight though! LOL

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

Been fighting this RDK 03033 error for a week now and can only reboot several times a day - Heard a rumor (don't know if it is true) that the problem is somehow tied to a recent X1 security update but haven't heard from Comcast - it is like they don't exist - Im ANNOYED but what can I do but continue to reboot.....

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

I know, seems like it has to be something like that given the quick onset... I've tried turning off powersaver (that helped with a similar issue a couple of years ago) but not improvement. Checking all the connections caused no improvement. We have noticed the errors happen most often in the late afternoon and early evening. Any similarity to what you are seeing?

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

I ve had the problem as early as 10 am and well into the evening......Ive checked connections - done a hard (power off) reset - restarted the gateway and restarted the TV  box - nothing helps.  Got kicked off of Netflix a couple of nights  ago about 9 pm and after the second time, just gave up on watch Netflix.  The problem is so ANNOYING and I might not be so angry IF someone from Comcast would talk to us

I have been able to get to Netflix and start watching shows,  After 10 to 20 minjutes I get an error on the screen and Netflix freezes servcie and TV.  Only out is complete power down.  Restting Netflix doesn't seem to help either.  Also, have troed reset of main box and restafrt of entire system, works everywhere except the main box.  It will not accept commands form your website.

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

Hi,
We had received the RDK-03033 error for a while. We even experienced shows being interrupted.
They kept telling us it was interference with the signal coming to the box.
We have 3 other tv's with just Roku and experience no issues.

I finally had Xfinity send a new box after a ton of refreshes and unplugging unit did not resolve anything.

We finally received our replaced 4k DVR box.
The remote wouldn't pair and we were told, again, there was ann issue with the signal going to the box.
HOW, when 5 minutes prior, I was using another box, albeit it is an XGv3 box.

How are there signal errors only on the 4k box? We are using the HDMI cables that came with the 4k box along with a Samsung TV & BOSE sound bar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

I do not know where you did the system update to resolve the issue but it did not work in my area. I've had this issue for over 2 years. I've had every box in my house replaced more than once. As another customer said, one tech comes out and doers something. Then the next tech comes out and says "Oh that's not right" and undoes it. Last year, we had 4 tech vans here at once. It started again about 3 weeks ago, Today alone it has gone out 7 times. In the last two weeks, I've had 2 techs but noone comes inside because of Covid (Which I understand)

Just being home with nothing to do and now no cable is nuts. Not to mention my 4 year old Autistic child NEEDS his ipad. He can't do what he wants without his internet.

We have yet another tech coming out tomorrow. It has not been fixed yet!!  Fingers crossed

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

This change did not make a difference in our services.  I have been in contact with the customer service department for the past week with no resolution.  I am always told that I need to reboot.  I have told them about the error, and they seemed confused as to what the error code means.  I don't understand how the customer service representatives can't be aware of this issue and why they don't  know a fix to tell the customers.  Rebooting every hour is unreasonable.

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

I have been having this same issue with my tv boxes as well. It started 2 years ago on hot days. All other days are fine. Just last week, I upgraded my tv top box, I was able to activated 2 of my boxes but unable to activate the 3rd one. I was on the phone for couple of hours each time for 3 different days with no success. However, I gave up trying to activate the 3rd box.
I have been unable to watch TV for the past couple of weeks, every day starting at about 10am and some days it will last until about 10pm (I guess that's when it cools down). Some days, it affects my cable modem as well. Cutting out my internet. Anyone know if there is any thing that can be added to the cable line to help correct this issue? Frustrating:(

Hi

Wanted to know what is being done about the RDK-03033 code that is still happening a month later? It is annoying and customers should not be dealing with it this long for what they pay.  One rep tells me it is being worked on and when I call again they send tech and replace my cables and work on main line and say should be good and it is not fixed. Then call again and I am told it is my box they will send me another.

code means the server can't be found by the set top box. Does this happen at the same time on all your x1 set top boxes? does your internet drop out at the same time? describe your in-home wiring (cabling/splitters/amps).

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

We too have been experiencing issues with "intermittent" RDK-03033 Connection Issues.

This has been ongoing since the release of X1.  The first few months were really bad.

Suggestion to the Support Team.

Create a performance analysis report using the following criteria to determine root cause of RDK-03033 Connection Issues

  • Unique Serial Numbers
  • Box's Associated Geo-Loc
  • Source Connection (Overhang Cable, underground cable, etc...)
  • NOAA Weather Data (precipitation by Geo-Loc)
  • System Up Rate
  • # of RDK-03033 errors

If I can escalate this issue, I would.  It becomes questionable to pay the monthly fees for a luxury.  I don't spend that much watching and when I do, I'd like to enjoy the experience.

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

We just started seeing this on our x1 box earlier in the week.  System refreshes, box refreshes, today - replacing all cables, and the x1 box itself did NOT fix it.  Whatever firmware fix was referenced under 'best answer' needs to happen again - location south florida.

And it's happening so frequently including picture freeze;  for all purposes I have no service on that tv.  Please give an official reply

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

The link that was posted goes to some "500 Internal Server Error". so that isn't the answer. Maybe Comcast is doesn't want us to find the error or the support staff is smart enough to find the answer. They just give you the standard answer for any problem, get you off the phone & on to the next call.

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

This has not been resolved as of today. I would like to suggest that Comcast look into their network on their boxes (internet). I have been these errors & have noticed that the port that my Comcast box is connecting to is not lit so there isn't a network connection to Comcast. Accrding to what is happening there needs to e a network connection to access the Guide, update software, & access Netflix ,Hulu, etc.

I checked my Comcast connections. I did the following:

Checked my network cable & it is functioning fine.

I plugged in another good network cable...no joy.

Plugged in the the cable directly from my Comcast riouter...still no joy...yes the cable is good.

All this with no help. My internet connection is great...working fine. So that couldn't be the problem. It's the connection between the box & Comcast servers.

I was thinking that the update isn't taken because the network isn't working between Comcast & the TV boxes. So software does get updated in the boxes.

I know you guys are "experts" but you need to check out any suggestion from anyone!

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

@Rustyben  - if you read my post - I have done more than the thing listed in your referenced link.  NO - the issue has NOT been resolved.  Reviewing my notes - the problem started earlier in the week after there was a neighborhood outage of about an hour due to some kind of system maintenance.  That's when I started seeing issues with the tv box (not DVR in another room) - and with my new tv box installed yesterday, cannot watch more than 2-4 minutes with out freeze, rdk error and other errors depending on which buttons I hit on the remote to try and unfreeze.

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

My problems began on 6/19.  Finally on Tuesday, I chatted with a competent tech on xfinity chat who determined that on 6/18 there was a patch that forced 'use highest resolution' on preferences to be yes.  That was causing varous issues with tv boxes.  A fix will be rolled out over this weekend.

Meanwhile, he had me go into settings, preferences, general, prefer best available resolution - and turn it to 'off' on the affected tv box (I only have one).  The setting remains 'on' on my dvr.

Since then - we had one lockup, which I was able to recover from since the box allowed me to say 'help restart tv box'.

We've been able to use the box for two days now with no lockups or rdk-03033 errors.  He also told me to expect a followup call from level 2 - local team.  Have not had it yet.

Ha, My box has been doing the same thing. except worse. I can only watch the QVC and JTV channels. No other channels work. I get the RDK 3026, XRE 3026, XRE0021, and XRE 3021. Mainly the Cannot tune to channel.
Other boxes in home work fine. Most likely this one has failed since its the main box. Going to be swapping mine after asking how to fully reset and remove my data from it.

Re: RDK-03033 Errors

I 'spoke' too soon.   Since I moved my daily reboot to noon-2pm - I can check in the afternoon to see if my tv box is working - inevitably am getting the same set of errors including the rdk-03033.  Yesterday and today I restarted the tv box which didn't clear it;  and then did a system refresh.  So either they rolled out a 'fix' that brought the issue back  or more likely was not fixed in the first place.
