Xfinitywifi hotspot connection ISSUE

Hello!
For the past year and a half, I’ve been connecting to the public “xfinitywifi” hotspot and have had no problems until about 2 weeks ago. All of a sudden, I could not connect to the network on my iPhone, iPad, or laptop. Since I live away from home, where my parents have Xfinity WiFi/internet, I log in to their Xfinity account in order to connect to the “xfinitywifi.”
I’ve noticed Xfinity has come out with a network program called NOW, which allows people to connect to xfinity hotspots without being an Xfinity customer. I thought that maybe Xfinity recently made a change, requiring all individuals trying to utilize the xfinity hotspot connections to purchase the NOW “plan.” So, I purchased that the other day to see if it would fix the problems I’ve been experiencing (only $10 so why not), but no such luck.
The problems I’ve been experiencing: It now takes forever for my device to connect to the“xfinitywifi” and when it finally does, it only stays connected for, at max, 10 minutes at a time and will randomly re-connect. When in the Apple settings app, under WiFi, it will show “xfinitywifi” as the selected network but then the WiFi icon does not show up in the top right corner to indicate that I am connected to the WiFi.

I'm not sure what to do now. Restarting my devices has not fixed the issue. And this does not occur with any other WiFi’s (at my parent’s home, coffee shop, school, etc.).

Any insight would be much appreciated!!!

I am having the exact same issue.  I only had one device connected but the NOW pop up to log in is not coming up.  I also work away from home so I use my own Xfinity account log in.  But this issue started yesterday for me. I hope xfinity can actually tell us what is going on instead of the “did you get the right log in and password!!

I’m glad at least I’m not the only one experiencing this! Hopefully someone from Xfinity can respond to this post soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻

@user_msch17 still no response and the Wifi feature that is part of what I pay for doesn’t work.   I got a message today after the Now finally popped up to sign in… except it didn’t sign in, but said the “signal was lost”. Probably one more ridiculous thing being cut like everything else.

user_1xptwa Thanks for reaching out with you hotspot access issue you are experiencing. Is this issue present with all hotspots, or just a specific on you use regularly?

No…. Just talking in circles!  Those of us who have Xfinity internet should not have to buy a another service.  The wifi hotspot are included.  For 9 months, I sign into Now using my xfinity id and password and it had worked fine. But now it doesn’t and Xfinity is just giving us the run around!

I was on with 10 different agents this morning and everyone disconnected me. I ended up calling on a secure line and told them this was urgent and I needed to speak with someone. On the phone for over an hour with someone and he disconnected me. Same thing as you all, it worked find until about three weeks ago and now can't connect to xfinitywifi. It either says no internet connection or I couldn't be connected. This is outrageous and I'm so sick and tired of xifinity that I can't wait until Frontier is available in my area!!!

@user_82d377 It is pretty sad that they take our money but the customer service is horrible.   I never call the 1-800 number anymore.   Those people are rude and don’t resolve anything. They just keep acting like it is the customer problem even though it is a provider issue.  I always go into the local xfinity store now! The people in the store are way nicer and actually resolve issues.

Thank you for the clarification, user_bba14! I see where we previously spoke and ran some checks. Are others able to connect to your hotspot when they come to visit, just not your devices?

Having a similar issue. I can connect to the secured mobile network on my phone, the login doesn't work on my laptop. I purchased the 'Now' pass for $10. My laptop will no longer even connect to either network. Just says 'Can't connect to network' and nothing is fixing it.

Hello user_jnab4g , for customers having trouble with the NOW Wifi pass we ask that you utilize the support link that would have been emailed to you when the pass was purchased.

I’m having this exact same issue and at this point, it seems like there is no solution, xfinity keeps replying to reach out to their “chat support” but if everyone is having this issue there’s clearly a problem on their end that they’re not addressing and reaching out to their chat support would be pointless, I just want a refund at this point because I’ve wasted $10

@user_suwc9v these supposed xfinity people are too dense to also realize those of us who pay for xfinity internet do not pay extra for NOW because the wifi access is included.  So I don’t have a link to contact this NOW support.  Fortunately the WiFi started working again last week.   But the responses here from the “xfinity support” are a prime example of why I don’t bother contacting the 1-800 number or online support.   I always go into an xfinity store for issues. That might help in your case.

Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Forget and Reconnect to the Network:

    • On your devices, go to the WiFi settings, select "xfinitywifi," and choose "Forget This Network."
    • Restart your device and reconnect to "xfinitywifi."
  2. Check for Service Outages:

    • Verify if there are any service outages in your area by checking with Xfinity customer support or their app.
  3. Update Device Software:

    • Ensure your iPhone, iPad, and laptop have the latest software updates installed. Sometimes, connectivity issues can be resolved with software updates.
  4. Use Xfinity Assistant:

    • Use the Xfinity Assistant feature in the Xfinity app to troubleshoot your connection. Sign in with your Xfinity ID and follow the prompts to diagnose and fix the issue.
  5. Secure Auto-Connect:

    • If you're using the Xfinity app, make sure the Secure Auto-Connect feature is properly set up. This can help maintain a stable connection to Xfinity WiFi hotspots.
  6. Check Network Settings:

    • Verify that your devices are set to automatically connect to "xfinitywifi" and not to other networks. Sometimes, devices may try to connect to other available networks, causing intermittent connectivity.

I’m the one that posted earlier about speaking with 10 different people over three weeks ago and this issue still has not been fixed. Xfinity told me they were working on it but that was three weeks ago and if that’s the case and there is an outage I want a refund I spent over eight hours on the phone with technical support for an issue. They still can’t fix or have no answers for.

@user_82d377 Thank you for posting on our community forum so we can help you connect to hotspots in your area. I'll stick with you here until we get to the bottom of this together :). What is the name of the Xfinity service you're subscribed to? What is the name of the WiFi network you're trying to connect to?

I am not at home. I am trying to connect to xfinitywifi As a wireless network. I’ve gone through the chat system and telling me to restart my modem 20 times does absolutely nothing for this! I am at a site where I have often in the past connected to xfinitywifi. Now it’s not even an option and just says can’t connect this network

@user_82d377 Thank you for keeping me posted so we can figure out the cause of the WiFi hotspot connection issue. Your eligibility to connect to hotspots around the country depends on the service you are subscribed to. What level of Xfinity service are you subscribed to?

Well, other Wi-Fi show up that our password-protected Xfinity Wi-Fi does not show up so I have to go in under manage. No networks add it and then it just says can’t connect to the network. I’m sure no one from Xfinity has been able to identify what the error is and after speaking to a supervisor over 20 days ago, they just said it was a technical issue and nothings been resolved obviously

Is this only in a specific location like a Small business or is this happening no matter where you are? When it comes to homes we encourage customers to keep the home hotspot enabled as it allows more people to enjoy the benefits of Xfinity Wi-Fi, but they can always choose to disable it on their wireless gateway.

Install the Xfinity mobile config profile.  You can search for it with any search engine.  It'll automatically connect you to the encrypted version.  I've had no issues with trouble connecting except when my WireGuard client is active.  Had to change the MTU to 1376 to get it to work.
