Issue with Some Advanced Gateways Preventing Mobile Devices from Backing Up on Home WiFi Network - RESOLVED
An issue was identified earlier this month where some mobile devices were not able to be backed up while connected to the home WiFi network. Our engineering teams have identified and implemented a fix for this issue. All devices connected to their home network should now be able to be backed up without an issue. If you are still experiencing this issue, please reach out for further assistance.

We have 4 iPads and none of them are backing up to the cloud or letting me do software updates. They all say poor connection even when I’m 3 feet away from the modem. The internet browser works just fine. Phones work just fine as well it just seems to be the Ipads. I even tried someone else’s internet and the iPads backed up just fine. This all started when we switched modem/router to the one provided by xfinity xfi? Any thoughts on how to resolve the issue? I’ve contacted apple
and they said it was not a device issue.

My iPad won't back up to iCloud due to poor network conditions. Nor will it automatically update apps. The last iCloud back up that was done on my home network via WiFi was completed July 6. I have had an XB8 for some time. No component of my home network has changed. The iPad will back up on other WiFi networks. There is a thread on Reddit in which others complain about the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/14kn2ji/poor_network_conditions_prevent_icloud_backup/

I have a similar problem, though it affects only my iPhone; my iPad and my wife's iPhone can backup OK.

have not been able to backup or update apple devices using the new xfinity gateway for a month. found a temporary work- around using an older modem connected via ethernet to xfinity gateway and setting up a secondary internet with a diff. name. Apple devices are using the second network for wifi and are able to backup. All this with help of reliable Apple help.

Literally just finished retrograde from Xfinity Modem/Router XB8 to XB7 and it had no effect on my inability to perform iPad Pro or iPhone iCloud backups!
Update: Just received Ablewe USB3.0 Hub+RJ45 Ethernet port from Amazon. Connected the adapter to the Xfinity modem and my iPad Pro. Shut OFF my iPad Pro Bluetooth and WiFi functions.
iPad Pro successfully performed an iCloud Backup (repeatedly)!!!
Ordering Lightening/Ethernet adapter for my iPad2 as soon as I finish this update. Will let you know how it goes.
Update: Lightning/Ethernet adapter idea didn’t work. Appears iPad2 must be connected to WiFi to backup to iCloud. Using Lightning/Ethernet adapter bypasses WiFi therefore leaving the iPad2 unable to use WiFi connection as specified. So, guess it’s back to the local library for iCloud backups.
Xfinity…We need your solution NOW!

Glad I saw your post about the retrograde since that was my next option. Xfinity needs to fix this- supposedly they have an update that fixes the issues that they tested with a user group but no idea when they will roll it out to the masses…

After downgrading to the XB7 I can now successfully download iOS updates and backup my iPad to iCloud. So this solution worked for me. After setting up the new gateway device and transferring existing wifi name and password I had to forget the network on my iPad and for good measure I restarted it before connecting to it again.

I continue to experience this issue after the final updates went out last night and all resets have been performed.
How do I determine whether my Gateway actually received the firmware update?

How do we know if the update has been applied? I restarted my gateway and still cannot backup.

As of today (08/17/23), I am able to perform iCloud Backups on all four of my devices (iPad Pro, iPad2, two iPhone12).
I suppose this means Xfinity has performed the updates to their systems and we’re good to go?!

I still cannot backup or apply any updates - on with support who said I am on version CGM4981COM_6.2p21s2_PROD_sey- they are implying that is the correct version

So my iPadPro was able to complete backup but was on iOS 16.3- I just updated it to iOS 16.6 and now it can no longer backup.

If you’re being told that 6.2p21s2 is the fix, xfinity needs to get their story straight. I had 6.2p21s2before the 15th, which is when they said firmware 6.2p25s1 would start rolling out.

Do you have the latest version no if you do does it fix the issue? They said they are still pushing out updates so who knows if it will ever arrive … do you know how to check the firmware version without having to ask support to do it?
