Ethernet Wired Backbone on xFi ?

Hello,

I was wondering if xFi has ethernet wired backbone support on any of it's modem/router products?  I have a room in detached garage that has wired connectivity to main router and was hoping to leverage wired backbone for extended wifi service.  Amplifi routers have this feature/option and was hoping same existed for xFi.

Thanks,

Greetings, @user_862717! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum.

Are you referring to our Xfinity xFi Pods+ Mesh WiFi System, or our xFi Advanced Gateways? I know that our 1st generation pods all had a single Ethernet port, and our 2nd gen pods have two Ethernet ports, but I think those are only designed to provide a wired connection to an already (mesh) connected pod.

Can you please tell me a little more about what you were wanting to do? It sounds like your garage is connected to your main router via Ethernet right now, and you wanted to have a WiFi backup, is that correct?

@XfinityJamesC thanks for the response!  I have xFi Advanced Gateway with one xFi Pod attached.  Unfortunately the pods aren't, as of yet, helping me with wifi speeds to the detached garage area.  So yes, I would like to take advantage of the ethernet drop in the garage area to extend wifi range out there.  Hopefully I can post this link, but if you search for "Enable Ethernet Wired Backhaul" you should find following link which hopefully explains what I'm looking for better than I can explain it:  How to Enable Ethernet Wired Backhaul – AmpliFi  It's a fantastic feature...hoping xFi supports it in some capacity?

@user_862717 , (EDIT: Formatting) thank you for clarifying! I have a work shop I love to work in but it’s a ways from the main house and I have often through how great it would be to have a strong, wired connection out there one day. I can see where you are coming from and I’d love to clarify what we can do and are limited on.

We do have amplifiers that can be installed for better coverage but these are intended to increase the signal strength into your home. These require power source and works through a coax connection. Furthermore, we have the X-Fi pods that you are mentioning with our X-Fi Advanced Gateway. Those create a mesh network and really are an amazing product! The configuration you mentioned is not one we are able to install or recommend. We design our X-Fi gateway to optimize the connection in your home and the X-Fi pods are designed to create a Mesh network in your home as well, while extending service outside the home is not within the recommended use. Does the help explain what you are inquiring about?

I would really like to see the xFi pods be able to have the uplink be wired as well. Concrete walls and hurricane rates windows destroy Wifi signal so its almost impossible to even put a pod inside of a wall and one right outside of the wall to get signal outside but with a wired uplink to one outside pod all would be fixed.

@Hemrickbe

That is great feedback! Whenever you have a suggestion like this, we recommend using the "Submit Feedback" link at the bottom of every Xfinity webpage.

@XfinityTony Are there coax options if a coax drop exists in the detached area?  So ... two modems I guess?  Would something like that work?

We definitely appreciate your time in reaching back out! We would be unable to set up two modems at one location. Are you already using a separate router from your modem?
