TVAPP-00148

I just encountered error code TVAPP-00148 on the Xfinity Stream app on my Samsung TV. Worked fine for prior 6 months. App streams fine on other devices and tvs. Tried turning off/on tv and deleting/installing app on Samsung tv.

Talked to Xfinity .  Said they are aware of this problem on multiple makes of Smart TVs not just Samsung.  It is problem with their app.  They claim they are working on the problem and will notify me by text when it is resolved.  Will believe it when I see it.

@user_ehmjye, I think there may be some confusion, this is not an Xfinity issue, see this thread's marked Official Solution" (page 1). I think you need to take up your concerns with Samsung as it is their fault it stopped working.

I just got both my Samsung tv's working on xFinity Stream.  The one we just purchased about 2 weeks ago, I did a power reboot (hold the power button down until the tv logo appears, then let go.  Once the tv comes back on, try the app again.)  This time it worked.  The other tv we purchased about a year an a half ago.  For that one, I had to go to the Samsung download page and download the updated firmware (www.Samsung.com/us/support/downloads).  Type in the model of your tv, search for the updated firmware and download it onto a flash drive.  Unzip the flash drive, then plug it into your tv.  If the update doesn't happen immediately, go to Settings, Support, Software Update and Update Now.  There are also instructions on the download page on how to do it.  I hope this helps a lot of people.

@user_q9gnwe the only at for most Samsungs update is to do the Zip drive. However I spoke to Samsung. They said the fact that all other apps work says it’s not tv it’s xfinity app.

@Skeets2022 No offense but when Comcast puts out these types of messages in this forum (the marked Official Solution on this thread) it is usually coming from their fix teams/Engineers. I would trust that over some Samsung call center representative especially since so many impacted people are saying that the firmware update from Samsung fixed the issue.

We have had this issue on our Samsung TV since January 17th. That TV model is on the most current version. We also have a little Fire TV, so we loaded the Xfinity stream app on that a few days ago which worked fine - until - yesterday February 3. This is beyond frustrating. Each time we talk with Xfinity advance tech repair, I keep reminding them we need a credit for this outage. There is no ETA. We are in a new contract since December (new promotion because our rates increased and they moved us to a promotion to help offset some of the increase) and will have to pay to get out of it. Not a good place to be.

Well, magically Xfinity Stream is now working  on the little Fire TV - Feb 4 11am. Still not working on our Samsung (main TV) and still getting error TVAPP-00148.

@NewCustomer3 it works if you have chrome cast, fire stick. But it will not work without those.

@Skeets2022 thank you! We tried our fire stick, but unfortunately it’s too old to work with xfinity stream. Will look at getting a chrome cast or trying airplay as others have mentioned. Super Bowl is coming so gotta figure it out.

@NewCustomer3 as mentioned by @XfinityKatie on the Official Solution for this thread, this is a Samsung ONLY (as they pushed the firmware update that caused this) issue and you should have access to the Xfinity Stream app on other devices. They also include a link in that message to an article with all the supported devices for Xfinity Stream.

It worked on a 24” fire tv and then didn’t work for a couple of days. I am aware of the supported devices list. Thank you. Not sure why the fire tv Xfinity stream app had an issue for that short period of time. For the Samsung - We tried the USB update process and it said “no  updates found”.  We were happy when the auto update on the tv worked on 2/6.

Mine finally worked for about 4 hours this morning,  kicked off, and hasn't worked since. Wondering if there's any updates on possible complete fix in the near future

Same thing happened to me one day last week. Worked for a couple hours then back to the error message. Went in today and got a wireless box for my Samsung TV. Supposedly the ETA is February 11th for the permanent fix.

Hey @kayelare,

Samsung is working on the updates to get pushed out shortly. In the meantime, if you are experiencing issues with other Samsung televisions, you can attempt to manually update or cast the Xfinity Stream app on your mobile device to the television.

Perform exactly as outlined and the Xfinity Stream app then worked on my 55” Samsung TV, but don’t understand why Samsung is not pushing this software update through the network for automatic update.

  1. You can update your TV’s firmware manually. (You’ll need the model number of your TV and a USB flash drive.)
    1. Go to https://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/
    2. In the Search your product search bar, enter TV’s model number
    3. Under Firmware, you should see and click on How to update USB firmware (this will open a new webpage with this header: Update the software on your Samsung smart TV or Monitor)
    4. Then choose and follow the Update using USB instructions
  2. You can use an alternate device such as Apple AirPlay, Google Chromecast, Roku, Fire TV or Apple TV streaming device to watch on your TV.
  3. You can watch on your computer, tablet or mobile phone. (Here’s a list of eligible devices where you can watch Xfinity Stream content.)
  4. You can play Xfinity Stream app content on a mobile device and then, on your home WiFi network, use Bluetooth to cast the programming to your TV. You would then use your mobile device as a remote. Please note: if you choose to cast Xfinity Stream content outside of your home WiFi network or on a cellular network, your carrier’s standard data usage and rates may apply.

@user_yotie9 they are giving these suggestions from xfinity. The problem is the streaming app from the phone glitches, freezes and doesn’t work. And even if updated the streaming app doesn’t work. Mine was already updated and did not update when xfinity said it did. So someone isn’t telling the truth.

and for the solution to be streaming from phone or to have chrome cast as an additional cost is not acceptable as an answer when I pay $150 for internet only at this point? Not sure how legally xfinity can charge me for a service I am not able to use. If I am not credited on my bill. Or this issue isnt fixed in the next week. I am looking elsewhere for services. It’s been 3 weeks since I have had live tv.

@Skeets2022 I think there may be some confusion. Comcast/Xfinity does not have a line item on your bill for Xfinity Stream. Xfinity Stream is considered a free feature added as a benefit to your other Comcast/Xfinity services. Per their "What's the Xfinity Stream app?" help article: "Turn any compatible device into a personal TV with Xfinity Stream — included at no additional charge with your Xfinity service." How can you get a credit for something that is a free benefit? That is like trying to get a credit from Uber if you dont get an email of your receipt when you requested it or asking for a credit because your Uber driver didnt offer you gum/water. You cannot get a credit from Xfinity if you are not paying for the thing you are requesting a credit for. They may give you like a courtesy credit, but that is not likely. Also, this is not an Xfinity issue (see this thread's marked Official Solution") so why would you get a credit if the reason it is not working is because the device manufacturer pushed an update that caused it to be broken. I think you need to take up your concerns with Samsung as it is their fault it stopped working.

@Here4Help Actually, we do pay for Xfinity TV (no box) and have to use Xfinity Steam to get the channels/TV package we pay for. When we did the contract for the services, the store employee told us we didn’t need a box and can use the app. This is the reason we are asking for credits.

Expert

@NewCustomer3 I can appreciate what you are saying, but that is because of a choice you made to forgo cable boxes. What you actually pay for is the television service provided via a coaxial cable and a cable box. What is included with that paid television subscription is the free feature of Xfinity Stream. As mentioned previously, there is NO billed line item on any Comcast bill for "Xfinity Stream". If YOU choose to watch your television service only via Xfinity Stream that is your prerogative (not Comcast's), but you should be able to see by your monthly bill that what you are being charged for by Comcast is that TV services that can ONLY be picked up via a coaxial cable and cable box. At the end of the day if Comcast is calling Xfinity Stream a free feature included with the services you pay for then they will NOT give you any type of credits when it does not work the way you want it to. So many factors can impact Xfinity Stream and the app since Comcast does not own/manage the devices that you are streaming on.  I would recommend going and getting a Comcast cable box and/or cable card so you can make use of the services you do pay for instead of relying on a free feature to work as you want. This way if something does stop working when watching television that way, Comcast CAN actually provide you the credit that you want. They can only provide credits for billed services and "Xfinity Stream" IS NOT a billable service.

It's an Xfinity issue. Happening on non Samsung tv's too since they updated their Streaming App!!

I just bought a Samsung TV with Tizen OS, updated the software on the TV, and the Steam app wont initialize. I go through the initialization process with my iphone and the Xfinity app and activate the TV, but the TV just sits there and eventually errors out. All other streaming app work just fine.

Please fix this!

@user_khz5vi it currently will not work with 2021 tv and newer. But xfinity doesn’t tell you they are having problems with Samsung TVs.

@Skeets2022 also an issue with LG TV's

@user_khz5vi purchased a Samsung 55" QLED last week and no error.
I have a Samsung 50" (model tu7000) with Tizen and it has the error.

@user_fjxa0u If LG is having the same problem, then it sounds like a Comcast issue.

@Skeets2022 But Xfinity did tell this entire forum that it is a problem with Samsung TVs. Did you review the marked Official Solution on this thread (page 1)? In it @XfinityKatie states that Xfinity is aware of an issue with Samsung TVs due to a recent firmware update pushed by Samsung.

This solution using a USB drive to update the firmware on your Samsung TV (Model = UN65TU700DFZXA) works !!  It fixes the issue on Samsung TVs and the Xfinity Stream disconnect (error TVAPP-00148).  Do not try to do an online software update from your Samsung TV Settings screen.  It does not point to the latest update, dated 1-11-2024 (version 2501.1-2210.0) and will return a message that your software is up to date.  This was very easy to do and the instructions are simple to follow.  You will need a flash drive with at least 4GB of capacity.

@tomd4 Good to know. The UN55AU8000FXZA still shows the old Version 2210.0_1602.2 (Multi Language).

The USB download worked for me... Thank you so much for posting this information! I just wish that the people answering the phones at Xfinity and/or Samsung could have told me to do this when I called them two weeks ago... and again, a week ago... This was a quick fix, and instructions could have been sent to me via a simple email. Instead, I was told to wait because there was nothing that they could do. There was really no need for all of this frustration and wasted time. A solution was available, and it should have been relayed to paying customers.

My Samsung Tv finally had the update available that is 2210.  Got it downloaded and reloaded, went to try the Xfinity app and still the same issue.  Now pictures for any of the channels aren’t showing up like they used to.  I uninstalled and reinstalled to just be sure and still the same [Edited: "Language"] error.  This is getting ridiculous.  Who’s fault is it now…

@user_410ph8 I am sorry to hear the update did not work for your TV and I am not sure what you mean by the pictures for any of the channels are not showing up. Have you tried to cast the Xfinity Streaming app using Bluetooth from your phone to the Samsung TV?  This makes your phone or tablet the remote, and you can access all the Stream content.  To set this up go to the app on your phone or tablet and press the TV-looking icon in the left corner, it will find your Samsung TV, as long as you have Bluetooth activated, and you are on the same Wi-Fi as your phone, enter the code, and then watch TV.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

@Here4Help but that fix almost a week ago didn’t work for some of us. Confirmed by Samsung, they didn’t have a firmware update available through this usb download for our model of tv. But yesterday we were able to do the update through the settings screen. All is good now, but communications could have definitely been better.
