Xfinity TV Remote App going away

I just received an email from Xfinity stating that the Xfinity TV Remote App is going away as of 2/11/2025.  This is unacceptable.  I rely on this app not only to control my TV remotely for my aging mother who cannot change the channels but also to set recordings for TV shows remotely.  Why would Xfinity take away a much needed tool from its customers?  Please reconsider or offer an alternative that has all the same functionality for remote access and control when not at home where the TV box is located.  I looked at the web browser remote and it is not an acceptable alternative.  It is lacking most of the functionality that is in the Xfinity TV Remote App.

The Xfinity TV Remote app is retired. It has been removed from the Apple Store and Google Play, and is no longer available for download. If you have the app installed on your mobile device, you will be unable to use it. You may find the app non-functional and/or may encounter various error messages when attempting to use it.

As an alternative to the Xfinity TV Remote app, you can use the Xfinity Web Remote for Xfinity X1, which is available on xfinity.com on any mobile device. The Xfinity Web Remote has many of the same features as the Xfinity TV Remote app did. Please note that the Web Remote is not compatible with Xumo Stream Boxes. We appreciate your feedback on this!

@XfinityJeniece This is NOT any type of alternative to the remote app. Quit with this stupid a**generic response that only proves Xfinity doesn't give a rat's a** about the needs of their customer base. Way to go! 👏🙄

What a frickin joke!

@user_41287d this has been their way forever. Cloud based service is [Edited: Language] and never works like it should. ,

You get a FRACTION of the MBPS you pay for and the price is beyond inconsistent. I removed some services a while back and now the price is higher than it was with less service. [Edited: "Soliciting"]. Xfinity sent someone out because they “detected” I wasn’t getting speeds I should get. All they did is plug in a booster. I pay for 150 Mbps and get 40 on a good day. I also have been a customer for 20 years and I don’t get the same cheaper price a new customer gets. Not rewarding loyalty is just silly business and feels like a slap in the face. And don’t get be started on trying to get someone on the phone!

I agree, didn’t see the email and was trying to figure out why it wasn’t working. That is how I set all my recordings. Maybe Xfinity should be lowering there prices rather then raising them. Another reason to go to youtube tv

I just found this out, thought something was wrong with my phone. Will be moving to a different service this weekend.  Price is ridiculous and features are being taken away.

Comcast, What in the world were you thinking when the decision was made to remove such a convenient tool for your users? My primary use was having a somewhat handicapped parent use it to control his TV as he was not able to manipulate the remote for your cable box. What happened to your commitment to making accessibility a priority?

Did anyone take the time to compare the functionality this 'retired' app to the horrific alternative you are providing us? As a software analyst I would never have been permitted to offer a replacement product to our customers that did not, at minimum, meet the current product's functionality. This 'Web Remote' program is just plain terrible. It is not intuitive, is cumbersome, and very frustrating to use. There is absolutely no way my parent will be able to navigate this new means of access, how very disappointing!!

I totally agree…we pay so much money for XFINITY and now they take away the most useful tool they have!  It worked well and was so easy to record shows with.  I really really despise this company, they are just awful and don’t care about customers at all, just increasing their bottom dollar at our expense.

I totally agree with everyone. My last remote broke and no longer worked, Luckily I had the app.  What if this new remote breaks and I can’t  get to xfinity store right away? To be honest, I found the app easier to use than the remote. So when it broke, I did not miss it!  So tired of xfinity taking things away but increasing the rates. Throw us a bone and bring it back!

Ditto to all the above. I have been with comcast since the mid 80s, through thick and thin. Stuck with them when so many college sports fans of the west coast teams that recently joined the Big10 were deprived of viewing their team's football games for several weeks if their provider was comcast. So many of my friends went to YouTube TV. They love it, so I guess that's where we are going. We used the old app to manage the dvr while traveling. Sometimes we are away for over a month. The dvr can only be set for 2 weeks in advance, so we miss new shows and sports. I used that thing all the time. Going going gone

I keep seeing comments mentioning YouTube TV, I think I’m going to have to check that one out myself. Like you, I have hung in here since the 80s, but I think it’s time for a change. I’m tired of my bill going up in my convenience is going down.

I agree with everyone. Is there a way to bring back this app?! I used this app everyday as it is one of my most used apps. This was one of the highlights of Xfinity and one of the reasons I have kept my Xfinity cable. Going to a web browser as an alternative….? That was a smarter move? Please reconsider.

This makes no sense - why would a leading service provider remove a refined app that made their services work smoothly and offer up a web based generic remote that looks like it’s from 20 years ago?

Hi there, @user_15885o! Thank you for sharing your feedback about wanting to keep the Xfinity Remote app in place. At this time, we do not have any plans to bring that back. I understand this can be upsetting since you were using that daily and apologize you are feeling this way. We offer the Xfinity Web Remote or a remote control for the TV box to watch.

I’m so angry that they got rid of the remote app. The web remote isn’t anything like it, no guide, no on demand, no dvr manager. If anything they should be investing more in the remote app and adding more great features. Btw not everyone wants to talk to their tv!

This is unacceptable, this was one of the most helpful feature of Comcast and for the money we pay to be customers…ridiculous!!!

The remote.xfinity.com is useless. It is just a duplicate of the handheld remote. The now discontinued app was great. TV and DVR control in one place. Some of the buttons on the web remote do not work.

DVR control through the Xfinity/Saved button is not convenient at all.

What brain trust at Comcast thinks this is better?

@user_donh02 The one who didn't think the cost to keep it was worth it, plain and simple.  They are clueless, hence why I am canceling my TV & Voice with them.  This is the last straw!

The Xfinity TV Remotes app may actually have been the one product that was actually Simple, Easy and Awesome.  The Xfinity Stream app is fine for its purpose. You can get to most of the information but it doesn’t integrate with the X1 service. Is this the first sign X1 is going away? Please tell us before it does!
The web based remote is a middle school coding exercise. If you make a shortcut on your phone the retro icon says it all; welcome to the 90’s.

user_2b4761 I am sorry that an app you enjoyed with retired. I know I used it as well since I am always losing my remotes. The app is no longer available for download or use, and customers who have it installed on their mobile devices will be unable to use it and/or may encounter errors. Customers can use one of these options as an alternative to the Xfinity TV Remote app:
• Xfinity Web Remote
• Xfinity Voice Remote

@XfinityDena Well no [Edited: "Language/Inflammatory"] 🙄🙄🙄 I think all of us are already aware of this, so [Edited: "Inflammatory"] and helpful to NO ONE!! How about trying to tell us what is the reason for Xfinity making this stupid move??  And why would they make such a stupid decision without ANY acceptable and comparable alternative?!?! And no don't give me more of the [Edited: "Language"] spiel about the web alternative cause that's not even remotely close to what we just lost. Comcast just gets more and more expensive with worse and worsening service. Definitely time to cancel this [Edited: "Language"]!!!!

I am so upset that Xfinity/ Comcast did away with the Remote Control App. It was so easy to see & scroll.  The stupid regular physical remote does not work. The physical remote has a hair-trigger & sends me places I don't want to go or locks up my tv. I only use the hand held remote to turn it off & on & the volume.  I would plan my entire evening of tv viewing based on the remote app. I could change channels from anywhere in the house. This may sound silly, but I feel like I lost a friend. I cant see the other remote  & it does not work. Old time remotes used to have arrows where I could just go from channel to channel like from 2 to 3 to 4 etc. but now due to the repeat digital stations they make us think are a great deal, it sends me from channel 2 to channel 799!!!!   Its so annoying. How dare you remove this!!!  YOU KEEP INCREASING OUR INVOICES BUT YOU NEVER ADD STATIONS WE WANT (I have been asking for RFD for 10 years!) & YOU TAKE SERVICES AWAY!!!! No wonder folks do all they can to get rid of this company. You do not care about your customers whatsoever!

I am out of town for an extended period and I used this app to record shows for my disabled daughter to watch when we return home. Today I learned the app has been disabled. I checked into the web remote app and it doesn't seem to connect to my DVR, even though everything seems to be connected properly. This is really annoying. Losing this type of functionality is exactly why people are dropping cable.

I’m now seeing that the Xfinity Stream app can be used to set the dvr to record while away from home. Click on the Live TV symbol & search for shows through the find button or by day & channel. Works well for me

jbeeg - I see they incorporated some of the Xfinity TV Remote functions in the Xfinity Stream app. It actually works better now because I can record earlier and extend shows, which I couldn't do with the Remote app. Thanks for the tip.

I understand how you feel, Leigh214. Have you tried using the Xfinity Web Remote for Xfinity X1, which is available on xfinity.com? It works great, is easy to use, and has many of the same functionality as the app.

This is not a solution. It has none of the features of the app. Get real. Stop repeating the same drivel. Xfinity Web Remote is NOT a solution. It is virtually useless except for streaming. You alienating a lot of good customers. Why?

@XfinityMartyR  Marty, are you seeing all the comments on this subject posted here? Can you forward them to corporate for us please. We really need somebody who knows how upset a large portion of their customer base is about this. Many of us are 30+ years with Xfinity service. I would be very thankful if you could forward this to corporate.
