Xfinity TV Remote App going away
I just received an email from Xfinity stating that the Xfinity TV Remote App is going away as of 2/11/2025. This is unacceptable. I rely on this app not only to control my TV remotely for my aging mother who cannot change the channels but also to set recordings for TV shows remotely. Why would Xfinity take away a much needed tool from its customers? Please reconsider or offer an alternative that has all the same functionality for remote access and control when not at home where the TV box is located. I looked at the web browser remote and it is not an acceptable alternative. It is lacking most of the functionality that is in the Xfinity TV Remote App.

By getting rid of the TV Remote App Xfinity has lost some accessibility options. My elderly mother has technology issues using her DVR. I was able to put on recorded shows on my elderly mother’s tv via the app from another state for her. The Xfinity Stream app doesn’t have the option to tell it to stream recorded shows on the tv. You can’t see a list of scheduled shows that will be recorded in the future on the Xfinity Stream App. Plus you can’t search for a show or movie to record in the future via the Xfinity Stream App.

I agree! This was an extremely useful app! Cutting it is a really bad move!

Very very unhappy about the loss of this app!!! The Xfinity Stream app is not an acceptable alternative. Xfinity needs to replace/update this app!!

I agree with these comments 100%! I am likely switching to Verizon Fios on a deal which costs less than Xfinity and comes with a mobile app which may not be the greatest but at least it has one. Why does Comcast want to lose so many of its customers? Maybe Comcast will try to make up its lost income by raising its prices again, which will cause more of its customers to switch to other providers, then more to switch because of the price increase, and the vicious cycle will keep repeating itself. Comcast: be smart - wake up! [Edit: All Caps]

The stupidest decision ever. You keep raising the price and lowering the services. I used the app all the time to set recordings. Now there is no way to do that unless you are at home. I really am overcharged and fed up with Xfinity.

By the way, I’ve been a subscriber for over 20 years, pay for the highest level service and didn’t even merit an email notifying me of this change. I gave up calling you people as it’s important to talk to anyone. I think I’ll walk.

I have been a customer for 30+ years and I agree with everything that everyone has said here. BRING THE REMOTE APP BACK!!! I don’t care much for your voice remote. I used the remote app constantly both at home and away, especially when I wanted to schedule a show to record. Tonight I tried to use the handheld remote to schedule a show coming up in the future that will air when I am out of town and still haven’t been able to accomplish the task that used to take only a few seconds. It also allowed me to look at upcoming shows for the evening without interrupting the show I was watching. Your web remote is nothing more than a poor version of the handheld remote sittung right next to me. Why would I even bother to use it? Not a happy camper! I’ve always answered your survey question about recommeding xfinity to others as a 10. Send me another one. The rating won’t even be remotely (pun intended) close. Come on, xfinity. Listen to your customers!

the "WEB-SITE" remote control app (or what ever it's called) is utterly useless ... first of all, I have the web page app [Edited: "Language"] saved on my phone (I don't have a "remote control" as it stopped working a few years ago), (literally 2 weeks after I signed up for Xfinity service) I used to call about it not working and having a replacement sent to me, only to have the "superior" tech people ask me ... "did you change the batteries ?" ... DUH, why didn't my unintelligent and simple mind ever think about that ... ) the remote control does not work ... adding new batteries does nothing, mashing the buttons does nothing .... the Xfinity remote control that was given to me when I signed up does not work any more ... tech advice "are you SURE the batteries are fresh ?"... that's when I found the phone app ... talk about mana from heaven ... but now that has stopped working also ... way to go
first off, you have to log in to Xfinity to use it, and if you are not constantly mashing buttons, it will log you out automatically (NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO) ... clicking the "stay logged in" option does no good, as you still get logged out ... way to go
second .... don't bother trying to save your favorite channels, because the second you are logged out, everything is erased ... spent over an hour this morning, deleting low end channels and saving all my high def favorites, only to set my phone down and when I picked it back up, had to log in and discovered that the past hour I spent adding and deleting channels had disappeared into the Twilight Zone ... way to go
higher ups must be patting themselves on the back for one of the most asinine moves in Xfinity history .... WY TO GO

What the heck , this is ridiculous, why are you doing this? You are so over priced but I have stayed a customer for 30 years because I like the service but if you take away the things I like I guess ill go with something cheaper.

Everyone needs to call customer support and politely voice their concerns with the app going away. Call and write Comcast. Maybe they will get the message and bring it back. Worst decision they ever made.

I made a phone call, I was on the phone with Xfinity for almost an hour. I managed to get transferred three times but finally got a hold of somebody who forwarded a message to corporate that I was very unhappy. The guy in tech-support told me I was on hold for so long probably because they are receiving many calls about this issue. Don’t be shy, add your name to the list and make a call!

I totally agree! I didn’t use at as a remote, it was a tv guide. Now I have to scroll through all the channels on the TV. Already feel like cancelling slot if my service, because now I’ll never know what’s on when. I hate that they say the replacement is the Web remote, that’s nothing but an online remote. There’s no programming info at all. Stupidest upgrade ever.

They keep trying to take this app from us after we went through this a a few months or so ago, bring back the app. Your other app is not a replacement. [Edit: All Caps]

What a boneheaded move by Xfinity. The web remote has no where near the desired functionality. I have to be sitting in front of my TV to see the guide now, so I can’t use the guide on my iPhone to set up future recordings. Also, I can’t look at the guide while I watch a program to see what else is on. Whoever they have deciding what’s best for my user experience should have asked me before deciding. Oh yeah, plus my rate went up. Getting less while paying more. Maybe time to switch to ATT fiber and satellite TV
