X1 4K DVR with local hard drive (XG1v4) not available

I just tried to get X1 4K DVR XG1v4 service but after having the person on the phone try 3 times unsuccessfully to get one shipped, I was told they no longer provide XG1v4 units with local hard drive capability. Each time the order person tried to place the correct order; they kept shipping the Xi6 non-DVR units. When I returned the Xi6 units to the local store, I was told that they are only providing 4K streaming/internet DVR capability. Thats fine if you don't have to go through over a month of no Internet service due to Hurricane Ian. Even though I have Gigabit Internet I would prefer to have my recordings local; is there any plan to provide local DVR service in the future?

The 4K Units containing a local hard drive were discontinued. Mainly because of sponsors who did not want commercials skipped.

The cloud drives don't allow skipping commercials that the sponsor wants played.

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forums, @malvord! This sounds like an odd situation. The reps at the Xfinity store told you that the XG1v4, in effect, has been discontinued?

@XfinityTimothy That is correct. I was told this by the support person that I talked to on the phone after being shipped the Xi6 units in error twice after requesting the XG1v4 both times. When I returned the Xi6 units to the local Xfinity store, I was also told that they no longer provide the XG1v4's.

@Tek They are saying that as far as they know the XG1v4 boxes are not discontinued, but they are seeing very low inventory in the warehouse. When the warehouse gets an order for the XG1v4's and they don't have any in stock, they just ship out the Xi6's. Not the best solution. There was no word if more will be coming in or if there will be a newer model. I guess if you can't order one it's as good as being discontinued, even if not officially discontinued.

I got one a few weeks ago shipped to my house via the forum support here. I can also confirm it had a hard drive in it, but the condition of the box was rough.

It looked like it was dropped a few times and all scratched. I ended up returning it and not getting another one.

Funny how I found a thread on my only issue to-date w/ X. Switched from ATT/DirecTV over the phone last weeks to xfinity, over phone sales person accepted my request of (3) XG1v4’ = no problem he says. Installation tech arrives & says = they only carry Xi3 boxes on them (ALL 4k HDR current boxes XG1v4 & Xi6 wireless box) only ship direct to customer from xfinity warehouse Once delivered, you swap boxes & return Xi3’ to local x-store. Ok fine, worked out; as now need (1) Xi6 box as couldn’t run coax & (2) XG1v4. Get UPS delivery days later and (3) Xi6 boxes show up!!! So; Returned (3) not needed boxes to store, ok done. Call yet again to order & tech support swears that (2) XG1v4 boxes will be delivered today to replace Xi3’… NOW sooo looking forward to TODAYS UPS delivery… if no XG1v4’ arrive = then above COMMENTS are correct & would be very bad business practice if warehouse just keeps shipping Xi6’ automatically... Praying NOT but will DEFINITELY see what happens today. Will Check-back-in later on with my update but will not stop until we get our (2) XG1v4’ as promised

I've had three XG1v4 boxes delivered this year.  In one case, the wrong box was sent the first time.  But, I got the right one a few days later.  I return the unwanted ones using the UPS delivery option.

@Xfinity Support

thank you - if you have received (3) XG1v4’ this year would certainly think they can get me (2) ESPECIALLY with as many boxes as we are going through (7 NOW) & they xfinity must eat all these shipping costs which must be hefty… after reading your post; now at least have some hope..? What do you think Support
