Why is LIVE TV delayed 45 seconds?
I know this problem is heavily complained about and have no real answer, but I wanted to make sure my issue was recorded when there is hopefully some sort of lawsuit.
Why is the live broadcast on my cable box 45 seconds behind the Xfinity Stream app? And 1 minute behind ESPN live score updates? Friends watching games via streaming services text me game updates before I see the plays occur on my cable box.
- Xfinity is literally running a commercial during every football game this year about how their internet is so good that their streams aren't delayed
- This occurs on almost every channel. Some are more delayed than others. Local channels are affected the most. Fox right now is 45 seconds behind the Stream app
- Xfinity Box: XG1v4-A
- For comparison, I am streaming the game at the same time on my Apple TV 4k via Xfinity Stream. I am 45 seconds behind.
- I have changed out the HDMI cables, both HDMI 2.1 and HDMI 2.0 versions. I have tried different HDMI inputs on my TV
- I have done multiple system refreshes
- This has been happening for 2-3 years w/ 2 separate Xfinity boxes. It has recently gotten worse though.
Is there anything I can do locally until Xfinity maybe improves their connection between the channels and their customers?

It’s clear Comcast is not fixing this. Speak with your wallet and switch to any of the internet based services. If Comcast is gonna be delayed you might as well switch to someone that doesn’t have equipment fees.

I have people who are on satellite and other cable services and they are a good 30 seconds ahead of me

I noticed this same issue for a while now and it's been getting worse.
It was suggested that I do a total system refresh which I am doing now.
See if this corrects the issue at all.

Yeah resetting and refreshing system and delay is still ridiculously bad

I just recently made the switch to Youtube TV and oh man is the grass greener on the other side. There’s much less of a delay and it really has lowered my blood pressure not having to deal with Xfinity’s inability to properly address the issue. Highly recommend just ending it.

Completely unacceptable!! I should not have to watch live sports in SD for the amount of money Xfinity charges me every month. It has been going on all year with NFL games, NBA games and of course I’ll look forward to it for the upcoming MLB games… 30-45 second delay is totally UNSATISFACTORY. I now have to turn off my phone to avoid spoilers or watch a SD signal. WHY… I dare you to justify it or provide a reasonable explanation #XIFINITY.

I can watch the game on my Amazon Fire TV with the Xfinity App and it is much quicker than watching on my 4K flex box . I just don't understand why.

Terrible. How am I behind 45 seconds to other streams? The delay just started happening within the last few months. Things all of a sudden are delayed now. Xfinity had to make some type of switch. If we don’t get answers I am going to cancel and switch.

Anyone from Xfinity wish to chime in? Try to retain me as a customer?

I am having the same issue! Had a technician come out and tried a new box. Somehow the xfinity stream app is way ahead of the X1 Cable Box! I need to get out of my contract and switch to FUBO or Youtube TV. This is absurd that the cable is behind the xfinity stream app.

I thought I was crazy! When I am watching a basketball game on tv, my siblings in other states who are using YouTube TV or other services are posting comments like “great play!” long before I have seen it.
This is ridiculous.

This is not just Fox broadcasts of football games. Very poor. Considering changing to other services since my neighbors do not have this "XFINITY DELAY".

This has been going on for years. I thought it was just to be expected. The Nascar Scanner app is always around a lap ahead of Races on TV. I noticed it at least one year ago. In fact Nascar built in a pause button this year for their app so people could pause the scanner and in-car camera to try and match the speed of TV. It's a known issue and probably never going to go away.

I think the rise of In-game betting may be behind this, it gives the "house," a little extra time to set the line...or leave a line up that's in their favor. Say the Eagles go down & score, then the Giants have the ball on their own 25 after the kickoff, during that time from the Eagles TD to the Kickoff, people will be betting the Giants hoping to get a better line than there was pre-game. Now imagine the 1st play by the Giants is a Pick 6 for the Eagles, the Gambling places can leave that line up for longer, letting suckers bet even though they're really down 13-0.

Just also saying I have also had this same issue for years now, and every time I have called about it I am told nothing can be done about it or it's a broadcast issue, when it clearly is something Xfinity is doing on their end. All streaming options are further ahead in the broadcast than the cable box, INCLUDING xfinity's own streaming service. The whole reason I have cable is so I am not delayed. I will be switching my provider.
