TV Remote App

The Xfinity TV Remote app isn’t working. Has it been discontinued again? That doesn’t work for me. I need it to help my mom, who is blind, to change the channels during the day.

Not working for me either "Guide Data Missing", I use this one every day. 
No prior notice from Xfinity of any issues with it either.

Xfinity, you need to fix this one (again).

I am quite disappointed.

The service and quality of Xfinity web functionality has a lot to be considered.

I guess when you are a giant monopoly, good and reliable service is unimportant.

By the way, poor service breeds competition - something I will be searching for.

Thank you for reaching out. We did retire this app, so it's no longer available for download. That said, you should still be able to use the app if you have it downloaded. It may be we are having some general troubles at this time, but it should still work if you have it. 

You can also use the Xfinity Web Remote as an alternative available on our website. 


* Updated Edit on 2/18/2025: 

 

Above, I stated the remote app would still be functional as long as you had it downloaded after it was removed from all app stores, which is not the case with the new update as of last week. Going forward, the Remote App will not be available for download or supported on existing downloads.

@XfinityVianney​ Thank you for your response. To whom do we appeal this decision? We pay a LOT of money to utilize these services, which includes the remote app. This was one of the main reasons that I switched to Xfinity. It needs to be reinstated immediately

I think it’s a big mistake that Xfinity has removed much of the functionality of the app we all have gotten used to.
I appreciate the suggestions but it’s not as good as what the app.

This remote app is my preferred guide access. I’ve tried all the others, stream and remote web, but I do not like them and they don’t offer as much. Please please please bring back and support this app! Surely there are developers who can continue to work on it to keep it current?

From what I saw in other posts they've totally discontinued it.  It's not temporary.  Hopefully if they get enough complaints they'll bring it back.

I am on the verge of canceling Xfinity.. I looked at their “solution” to what we all have been using. Don’t bother!! Simpler for me to just cancel xfinity and go to another service.

Looking at other options myself because of much higher pricing changes, even for very long-term customers.

Sharing a link for streaming comparison of Comcast Now vs 2 other options. Didn’t find one yet that also has local channels including WGN in Chicago.

I never used this app as a remote. I used it to search for upcoming shows, to see what was recorded and what was going to record, to program a show if I was not at home. Now there is no way to do any of those things. You just made using the DVR, or even the TV, much harder to use. Please bring back this app. I don't need to control my TV from my computer, the Xfinity Web Remote web site is useless. I have plenty of controllers. A big black X for Xfinity.

jberz:  You can do many of those things on the xfinity Stream app.   Unfortunately it can't control the TV and I liked using the TV Remote app more.

I also used this for the guide and to search ahead and schedule to record shows and check my recordings I already have. I used this everyday. PLEASE, PLEASE restore this feature or add the App back. I have it loaded since I’ve used it for years but there is no current or future data.

The Xfinity Web Remote has many of the same features as the Xfinity TV Remote app did. Please note that the Web Remote is not compatible with Xumo Stream Boxes. .

Best I can tell one has to be near their tv...with the online one  worthless.  I will also look for other providers

I used the app everyday as well. There should be a upgrade to it or xfinity stream should incorporate similar functions. I agree with jberz's comment!

This app needs to brought back!  I too use it to change the channel for my mother’s TV. She cannot use a remote and this way I can put her TV on shows she likes. 

you have eliminated and amazing tool for helping care for our aging population.

I agree the xfinity remote app needs to be brought back. I use it to find and select content from tv guide and XOD on demand.  The web app seems to need to be configured?  At $300 a month for these services and you discontinue a key service without a notice nor suitable replacement.  Seems you don’t understand your user base which is unfortunate.  You should have used your user data and sought user feedback.  Who do I contact? And to think I was shopping to add services … but really trying to find commercial free solutions to the over saturated programming.

The Xfinity Web Remote has many of the same features as the Xfinity TV Remote app did. Please note that the Web Remote is not compatible with Xumo Stream Boxes. In addition, the Xfinity Voice Remote is available for Xfinity X1, Xfinity Flex, or Xumo Stream Box customers. You can order one to be shipped through Xfinity Assistant (accessory shipping and handling fee may apply). Or you can visit an Xfinity Retail Store to pick one up in person (free of charge). For customers with accessibility needs, large-button remotes are available through the Accessibility Support Center for Customers with Disabilities.

Terrible to pull the app without a suitable alternative.  Many use the app to look at schedule, search for shows and simply to control the TV.  Bad form to just pull the plug.

I use the app to turn the tv back on for my dog. She suffers separation anxiety and being able to turn the tv back on from the powersaver mode helped during my work day. This app was the only reason I continued to pay $300+ a month for cable, wifi, and mobile. Thanks for handing me the scissors to trim my services. As soon as I find another wifi provider in my neighborhood that'll be cancelled too.

granitechief83 We appreciate your feedback. Have you tried using our Voice remote as an alternative? Xfinity Voice Remote is available for Xfinity X1, Xfinity Flex, or Xumo Stream Box customers. Also, as mentioned in the thread, you can use the Xfinity Web Remote for Xfinity X1, which is available on xfinity.com on any mobile device. Let us know if this helps.
