Random recordings on DVR

Recently I have noticed when I go onto my DVR that there are multiple shows recorded that I did not request to record. This has happened for the last few weeks. Any idea why?

Hello, @user_1054et33. This is odd but don't you worry. We'll figure this out together. Are you the only one with access to the DVR? Are these recordings possibly from someone else? Were these recording from programs you or someone in the house that normally watch or are they random shows?

Everyone in my house has access to the DVR. However, we have all spoke about this and do not know where the recordings are coming from. They are random different channels, multiple recordings in one day and not subject content we would ever watch or record. When I delete them they do not come back. New ones will show up a few days later.

@user_1054et33 I can see how that would be frustrating, especially if it's not content you are wanting to watch. I would be happy to take a closer look into your recordings, and see if we can get to the bottom of what's going on today. Can you please Direct Message your name and service address to begin?

Hello, @user_d5e9c7. Let's figure out what's causing the random recordings. Does anyone use your stream login or a login associated with the account? Does it show the option to delete the recording schedule or is it only set for specific shows/episodes?

I no longer work for Comcast.

No one is recording these shows from my family. No one that I am aware of has access to my stream acct. Yes I can delete them. New shows do pop up with recording periodically that we didn’t record. I have read on another thread people are missing multiple recordings on their boxes. Any chance these two threads are related?

I am having the same issue!  There are a ton of recordings in my DVR and/or scheduled that were not programmed by me.

Watching my bedroom tv, I got a message that said I had to upgrade and they would send the kit to do so. I received the kit, tried to hook it up. I couldn't access premium channels that I had on my main cable box. Then I noticed many recordings that no one requested. I clicked on settings on that tv, went to my account and saw that it was registered to a lady in Maryland. Her name, husbands, children, full address, telephone numbers, etc. Should I call her? Now, nothing seems to work on that tv. I'm on oxygen and stuck in the house. I pay over $250/month for my service and I can't get Xfinity to respond. What do I do?

I am having the same issue regarding random recording. Is there a cause and solution?

Welcome to our community forum, @user_d97888! I love to record my favorite shows so I can watch them in my free time so I'd be upset if my storage space was being used by recordings that I didn't schedule. How many times have you noticed this? Are you seeing shows from a particular channel? Do you know if anyone else in the home or with access to your Stream account scheduled the recordings?

I am having the same issue and no one in support had. My metadata to look at to ensure I haven’t been hacked.  What is going on??  Is it the new beta app?

Same thing with random recordings is happening to me. I Am the only person that has access to the device. It is obviously not a isolated event and happening to multiple  users. What is going on here?

I am having the same issue.  My recordings have randomly picked up the news channels, the late night talk shows, and several shows I have never heard of.

This could be related to the fact that Comcast often gives out used DVR boxes that have not be really wiped/erased of their content from the previous customer. They seem to just shrink wrap them together with a XR15 (horrible up/down/left/right/OK keys) and give them out to another customer. Our X1 DVR had unwatched saved recordings as well as many scheduled recordings and a very long priority list of shows I never heard of.

I deleted them and said no recordings in the future.  Changed my passcode and it happened again with shows I never watch… something bigger is going on.

I agree that something bigger is going on. I have seen another thread where people are complaining that their shows they have recordedare all of a sudden deleted. They are asking why. I bet these situations are related.

I wonder if comcast gets more $$$ from networks if people record their shows.  It's interesting that they don't ever record popular or interesting shows - it's shows like "Wicked Tuna" and other obscure reality shows that I've noticed on my DVR. I recommend that people experiencing this issue go into the "scheduled recordings"  and erase them before they record.

That is odd that you continue to get new recordings even after deleting the previous ones, @user_65ab89. Let's take a closer look at your signal and equipment.

To get started, please use the chat icon in the upper right to enter Direct Messaging. From there, go ahead and compose a new message to "Xfinity Support" and send us a message with your name and address.

To send a direct message [private message]:

  • Click "Sign In" if necessary
  • Click the "Direct Message" icon

or https://comca.st/3uG9SVC

  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.
  • - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.
  • - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.
  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  • Press Enter to send it

I no longer work for Comcast.

Same issue here.  We got a new box and the dvr was full when we hooked it up, now I have to go in every few days and delete scheduled recordings.

Same issue here. The DVR is recording programs we have no interest in, happens a few times a week on average but irregular.  Given the many reports here, it’s definitely systemic.

@user_87ba24, we will be more than happy to help with this issue. I know you don't want random recordings taking up all your storage and time. When you have a moment send your name and service address in a Direct Message. Use the Direct Message icon at the top of the page to send your name and service address to "Xfinity Support." There's a good chance we need to have a tech come outside your home and install a MoCA Filter.

Same here. Recently replaced both dvr and modem with "new" Xfinity equipment. The replacement dvr records shows that we've never selected or for that matter, would ever watch and sometimes sets up for recording all episodes of the undesired show.

Hello @wdupre1, do you need assistances or were you able to stop/cancel the recordings on the shows you do not watch?

This same issue is still happening for me.  I only record a few shows and this week I had 158 random recordings to delete.

We also have this issue. The DVR records random stuff we would never watch and even if we cancel upcoming episodes as we delete, they record more shows. 🙄
