Power Saver doesn't turn off

My X1 TV box goes into Power Saver mode (after 4 hours of inactivity) even though I've gone to Settings>Power Preferences and turned Power Saver OFF. I have also replaced the box with the same results. I'm beginning to wonder if I can actually turn that feature off.  Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi, @LindsayA. I sleep with my TV on as well and need the background noise as well. The Power Preferences and Screen Saver are 2 different settings. I would be happy to help so you can sleep in peace. Please send me a PM with your first and last name along with your service address so I can look into this further.

Click on her name at the top left of her post then click send message in her profile. They should explain it as not everyone know how to.

@ShawnNicholson, Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out to us regarding your power save concerns. This link will walk you through and assist you in adjusting your power save settings https://comca.st/3b2EEhd, This will help you to adjust your screen saver settings https://comca.st/3q4lHPF. I sleep with the tv on as well ever since my babies were born and wake right up if my tv were to shut off, please let me know if you need any further assistance after reviewing these steps and adjusting your settings.

Unsure how you are sleeping with no interruption.  There is no option to turn off the screen saver.  The longest you can set for it not to turn on is 5 hours.  This is confirmed on the link you posted above.  Getting woke up by the silence after 5 hours is going to cause me to seek other option for my TV viewing.  Hard to believe Comcast can't give us an option to disable the screen saver all together.  It appears this issue has been going on for years so I'm guessing this isn't a high priority to fix on your end...

My power saving option is turned to "off" too.

Also, when I try to access Comcast Labs to see if any settings in there might help I get:  please give us a moment. we are making some updates, your current comcast labs settings will stay in effect, in a few minutes, you'll be able to change your settings.  I've left this message up for hours and it never goes away so I can't change any settings in Comcast Labs either.  (getting frustrated, possibly due to constantly interrupted sleep).

Hello, @GooglyWoogly

I totally understand where you are coming from. I need ambient music or some sort of background noise to get good sleep. As of right now, there are two options that your box would be set up for, Power saving and Nap Mode. When you have one turned on the other is offered. The only difference is the power saving. The box will still turn "off" or go into screen saver mode after 4 hours.

I am glad to see customers posting about features they would like to see. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

:edit: There still should be a sound of the channel coming from the screen saver if power saver mode is turned off. If you have Power Saver off, but no sound after 4 hours, we can send a signal to your box that should push a fix. Please feel free to send us a private message with your full name and service address for us to help.

I am just now noticing this reply.  I do indeed have power saving turned off, but no sound every time the screen saver activates.  I followed your instructions above requesting you send a signal to my box to push a fix.  Will come back and respond here if anyone ever responds to that request to report on if that fixes my no sound with screen saver issue.

Well, the "pushing a fix" to my box didn't work.  They sent me a replacement box and that didn't help.  I think this is an issue with your software not hardware.  If your customer sets the power saving feature to "off" their TV should never go to "sleep" ever.  I'll be taking my business elsewhere once my time obligation is over if this issue still persists at that time.  Waking up every night when the TV goes to "Sleep", fumbling for the remote to hit "exit", then trying to go back to sleep is beyond old.   Very disappointing...

It is a real shame too because apart from this issue I've been happy with your product (price and channel selection).

The above links for setting the POWER SAVER mode does NOT work. No matter what you set, the X1 box still goes into power saver after 4 hours. My wife and I both have to have the TV on to sleep and when it goes into POWER SAVER, we wake up right away. HOW can we turn POWER SAVER off???

Also... Is there anyway we can get the Channel reminder to actually turn the channel instead of just pop-up to turn the channel. Verizon FIOS and others do it. Will XFINITY be using this awesome feature as well?

Really wish we could have the tv on all day for our dogs.  We like to leave them with Dog Tv on if we have to both be gone all day for work but after 4 hours it goes off.  Its a reason to look for a new provider.

This is the worst.  4 hours and auto napping!  This will not work or stand!

Can a rep please tell us how to disable the dumb forced nap feature so we can all leave our tvs on and running for as long as WE would like?! We shouldn't have to provide proof of life every 4 hours in order to continue watching tv. Clearly this is a huge issue for a lot of your customers and your lack of clear directions into how to completely disable this idiotic feature is ridiculous.

@user_a3d59c I wound up writing an email to the CEO.  A human actually called me back.  I requested they allow us to change the "screen saver" "feature" to never.  It is obviously not a priority for them though.  I suggest more folks send email, respectful in tone, to the CEO.  Maybe if they get enough emails with this complaint they will actually do something about it.

As it stands right now I'll be cancelling my TV service with them when my obligation is finished.  I haven't slept longer than 5 hours at a time since I hired them for my TV service provider.  Really gets old when the silence wakes me up and I have to fumble for my remote so I can turn the screen saver off" Hard to believe they can't give us a "never" option on their screen saver options menu.

Every day when I come home from work and I turn on my television, I have the following message on my screen:

"Are you still there?

Yes, Stay Awake     or    Manage Power Saver Preferences"

No matter what I do, no matter what choices I make including Power Saver Off, this message will always appear the next day. This message also pops up when I leave the television on the same channel for multiple hours. This is somewhat new to me, it only started happening in the past 6 months or so.

I can't stand this feature, I didn't ask for it, it does nothing but frustrate me when I have to out of the blue find my remote to tell the TV to stay on. Just like getting rid of the "Remind" feature, which they brought back after tons of customers complained about it, Xfinity has once again decided to implement a feature that nobody freaking wants!!

Its even more infuriating when you choose the "manage power saver preferences" and there appears to be no way to disable this "feature".  Can't believe someone over there thought this was a good idea to implement without giving their customer a choice to disable.  Same with the screen saver.  No way to turn that off either.

I think they under estimate the impact this may have on retaining customers.  I'll be cancelling as soon as I've served out my time obligation with them if this isn't changed before then.  It is a real shame too because my only issue with the service is this situation.  Waking up every 4 hours because the sound on my TV turns off for no apparent reason is a deal breaker though.

Can someone from Xfinity please respond to the board with whatever the fix is.

Telling people to pm you leaves the rest of us with no solution

This "feature" is beyond frustrating

Xfinity is controlling all of its paying customers.  I did not pay to be shut off

Hello @sandpiper2319, I completely understand wanting to find an immediate answer to fix this issue. Our screensaver setting and power saver setting are two different features on our boxes and depending on what both are set to could be the cause of this issue.

Alternatively, if both the screensaver and power-saving settings are correct and this feature is not functioning properly, we want to make sure we send signals over to resolve the issue.

To check the screen saver settings on your box, we have this awesome link https://comca.st/3kfLOmI

For more details on our Power Saver feature, we have this amazing article https://comca.st/39aZhWI

If this issue is still occurring after checking these settings could you please reach back out to us by creating a new post? Our team truly wants your services to be working as they should be.
