Max of Six Recordings Starts March 2020

Beginning Friday, March 20, 2020, you will be able to record a maximum of 6 programs at one time.

I have two xg1-v4 DVRs in the house.  Does that mean 6 per box?

I wonder if it means only 6 of the recordings will have cloud copies???

That pertains to cloud based service.

If I'm recording on the DVR's hard drive, would that affect the number of simultaneous recordings?

Yes I have the same question.  Does that mean my physical DVRs can record more than 6 recordings.

Second question How do I tell if a recording is in the cloud? I have no idea what is in my cloud recordings. Can I edit them and remove a recording in the cloud but still keep it on the DVR?

Lastly, how come others can mark the thread I started as answered? Since I asked the question shouldn't I be the one who decides when the question is answered?

I don't know why the "answered" tab was put on this question.  Even though I appreciate that someone took time to answer it, the answer was ambiguous.  Can the two DVR's in my home, each with their own hard-drive, record more than SIX EACH, SIX TOTAL, or MORE THAN I could even imagine.  Please, let's nail down an answer, then consider the thread complete.

"How do I tell if a recording is in the cloud? I have no idea what is in my cloud recordings. Can I edit them and remove a recording in the cloud but still keep it on the DVR?"

There are times the hard-drive DVR doesn't record properly, so when you pull up the show, it substitutes the CLOUD version for your playback.  You can tell if it's DVR or CLOUD by pressing OK after the show starts and the onscreen graphic disappears.  Honestly, the CLOUD based copies look like garbage in most of my experiences, nowhere near the quality of recording it on your hard-drive in your own house.  If there is ever a day that low quality becomes the norm for time-shift viewing, I will drop Comcast, and my $260/mo service.

Not that it matters, but I asked the original question and I did not mark that reply as "answered."

_________
@LeeSoFL, @ComcastJessie answered it’s only affecting the cloud recordings not your physical hard drive

All,

As mentioned by @CCAndrew  and by me in my original post, this change will only impact Cloud DVR recordings. Physical DVR recordings will remain unchanged.

Please review the articles linked in my previous post for additional information.

yes on multiple home DVRs.

cloud: use a smart phone/tablet or desk/laptop and view the cloud recordings.

Can't remove recordings on cloud DVR only. remove a cloud recording removes home copy too.

the forum admin can mark as answered.

It is cloud recordings only affected, use the Xfinity Stream app or website to look at what’s on the cloud. Since you don’t know where to find it, it’s not going to affect you. The cloud keeps the last 60 hours recorded.

Two similar posts were merged together, don’t worry about it

I have had that problem. I always thought when it  played a recording that wasn't recorded properly it was from On-Demand and not the "cloud". I thought it was from On-Demand because it had commercials that I couldn't fast forward through.

On demand is the back up if the cloud fails. Again, Admins can mark it solved if they feel it’s been answered. A majority of times the person asking the question never returns to acknowledge the correct answer was given

Sorry I thought I asked the question oruginally. Maybe someone combined our threads? In any event only the originated of the thread  should be decided if it is answered or not.

Yes it could be that people don't know they should mark an issue closed if they have received an answer that fixes their problem. This can be solved by a message in a banner instructing us to close threads. But it could be that the originator never gets a satisfactory answer to their question. Or maybe a definitive answer.

I agree I am confused. How does one make a DVR recording without making a cloud recording? So if we are restricted to 6 cloud recordings then we are restricted to 6 real DVR recordings.

What gets me upset is Comcast changes policies but seems to never tell the line working people about the changes and what it means.  So we never get real hard reliable information until the policy actually takes effect and then we see it in action. And for whatever reason, the upper executives seem to not care when they get feedback complaining about this poor communications issue.

Most likely, you can still make more than 6 physical recordings, but not all of them will be available as cloud recordings. They will only be available on that particular DVR and the TV it is connected to.
