How do I change the default channel

My TV used to startup with the last station watched. It no longer does that. How can I revert to the old way?

Hello @bestdad I can appreciate the concerns, and apologize for the frustration this has caused. I know how nice it is when you turn on your TV, to the last channel watched. It is important for us to help get this resolved, and I would like to try a few settings which I do not see attempted here yet. Can you please go in and "Clear Last Watched History from the X1 On-Screen Guide" ? Also, either toggle on or off the X1 Power Saver, and let me know if that changes what comes up?

Hello @boomerm3, we can certainly try to assist getting this working for you again. Can you please try to tune to a different channel, hit Exit on your Xfinity remote to ensure it's live, then hit the power button on your remote to turn off your TV? After, press the power button on your remote to turn it back on and let us know if you're still experiencing the same issue.

I spoke to soon. The same problem started again Sunday (4/23) night. When I turned the TV on Monday, it was on channel 470  (CNBC) - not where I left it. I tried the 'live' button - no result.

I assume that there was a download Sunday night the did something to the cable box. Maybe someone can 'undo' that download.

@XfinityGabby The solution by @mshaum listed below to turn off HDMI-CIC in the power settings is the solution to this issue.

Yes, this work! Go down to the instructions in that HDMI thing. No one can fix it from Xfinity chat; no live chat could fix it. Somebody called me and they couldn’t fix it. Now I’m waiting for it to get fixed. This works now though!!!!

I found a new setting under Device Settings/Power Preferences called HDMI Device Control (HDMI -CEC) that when set to on will put the cable box in standby mode when an HDMI connected TV is turned off.  I set this to Off and it seems to stay on the channel I was watching.

@mshaum IT DID WORK!!!!  Thank you for this fascinating and completely unintuitive solution.

@mshaum Thank you. For the past month TV had been turning on tuned to LMN (796), which my Wife watches frequently. Now it seems to be turning on to last channel watched again. A little bit frustrating that xfinity wouldn’t help but you did.

A family member of mine is complaining about this as well. Mine is not doing it, but every morning it returns to the same 807 channel.

Is this a new feature?

@Tek Your cable should turn on to the last channel you are watching. Please have your family memeber reach out to us and we can try some troubleshooting steps.

@boomerm3, Just to be sure, when you hit the "Live" button, what exactly happens? Is Live TV not displaying on your end at all? When you turned on the TV this morning, was that channel not working at all (the one it was already on)?

The 'live' button did nothing - it was already live (the word 'live' appeared). Sunday night, I left the TV on one channel. Monday morning it was on a different channel. Now turning the TV off then on, it does NOT start on the last channel watched.

I tried all on this forum and nothing helps and still have same problem.

I don't know what troubleshooting steps you are talking about.

One thing I can tell is that It worked one day last week and I did not change anything.

Same thing is happening to us! Every [EDIT: Language] time we turn on our tv, it's on Fox News. [EDIT: Language]!!???? Clearly there is an issue within Xfinity that needs to be fixed/addressed! (Virginia resident)

@XfinityXavier I have the same problem.  None of the suggestions I see on this page have helped.  Mine is stuck on the Tennis Channel and it is very annoying.  Every time we turn on the TV, it's on the Tennis Channel!

This is clearly a widespread Xfinity problem. When we turn our TV on it is always on Fox News. It does not turn on to the same channel we had it on when we turned it off. We've reset the box, added Fox News as a favorite then deleted it. Nothing works.

Same here… I leave it on 1026, next time I turn on the tv it’s on 426…. There is no way that I can find to set favorites much less add/remove any…. So frustrating!

I have two other Samsung TV’s and they always are on the last channel I was watching!  But the main TV in the living room changes back to 426, no matter what channel I was on before turning it off.

Hello @user_804c02 I appreciate you reaching out, and providing your valuable input. I can imagine the concerns when you are expecting a channel to be where you left off, and something else is on. Navigating the X1 is simple, and there are many options, I do want to ask if you have followed the steps outlined in this Doc.? Default Guide View options include:

  • All Channels
  • Free To Me (View channels you're entitled to)
  • HD Channels
  • Favorites (channels that you've added to your Favorites list)
  • Trending (popular programming)
  • Movies
  • Sports
  • Kids

Are you able to change this and see differnet results?

Ever since Fox removed Tucker Carlson my tv constantly switches to Fox. It’s not the last channel I was watching. Fix this! I already did a system refresh 20 mins for nothing.
Are you trying to keep Fox ratings up?

This seems like a widespread issue based on many reports around the Internet. Any confirmation from @Xfinity Support

No one from Infinity or Comcast has responded to this post. I believe it’s not a hardware issue, eg the box; but something related to their system. Shamefully, as this is apparently widespread, nothing is being done.
