Having black bars on movies.

In the past few months most of the movies I watch are either having black bars on top and bottom or the sides. This happens in all rooms so wondering what might be causing this now.

That happens when the aspect ratio of the program is different from that of the TV.  Many films are wider than 16:9 and you get the top and bottom bars.  Much older films are more square and you get the side bars.

It is also likely that to are watching a 420p channel on an HD television.. Have to looked for the HD channels on your cable?

This is certainly not the experience that we want you or anyone else to have, @user_b46522. Have you had a chance to check the cables, and your aspect ratio on your cable box and television/monitor? You can learn more about it here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/tv-aspect-troubleshooting. Let us know if this helps or if you are still having this issue.
