Questions about upgrading to X1
We received a message that we need to upgrade our two DVR boxes to X1 in order to continue to have access to On Demand and SVOD. I have some questions about this.
One of our boxes is a Motorola RNG200N. We don’t use On Demand or SVOD on that box so we don’t care if we lose access to those features. Will we still be able to record regular programs from the guide on the DVR and watch them on that box if we don’t upgrade?
Our other box is an XG1-A. Does that box need to be upgraded to have access to On Demand and SVOD? On that box we have a subscription to Paramount +. Is that considered SVOD? Would we continue to have access to that if we don’t upgrade that box?
If we upgrade the XG1-A box, will we lose all the recordings we have on that DVR?
Finally, can we choose to upgrade the XG1-A box and NOT the RNG200N box? Will upgrading the XG1-A box to X1 in any way affect the RNG200N box’s functionality? That is, does upgrading to X1 require the upgrading of all boxes on the same subscription account?

Hi there, @c33j, thank you for posting on our Xfinity Forums. I understand you have some concerns regarding replacing your current TV boxes. To answer your questions, if you are seeing the message to swap boxes on both of your devices then you will need to replace them both to continue using the Video On Demand/Subscription Video On Demand services. If during the swap process, you upgrade to X1, then you will need to upgrade both television boxes for them to continue to work. Even if you do not use VOD/SVOD on one of the boxes, the entire box will cease working if the other is upgraded to X1. Regardless if you upgrade or not, swapping devices for new television equipment could jeopardize your current recordings. You could lose some previously recorded content and be required to re-set up those recordings again on the new equipment. If you do upgrade to X1, the X1 Cloud DVR will allow you to access your DVR recordings from mobile devices and computers while connected to any WiFi or mobile network via the Xfinity Stream app or portal.
As for your Paramount+ subscription, that is available on any of our newer equipment so you can easily get that again on any device you receive. Paramount+ delivered on television boxes is considered an SVOD that you could be at risk of not being able to view on your equipment if you do not complete the equipment swap.
We hope this answers your questions. Now, I did receive your direct message regarding these concerns and will also be responding to you there shortly. Thank you for your patience.
