QAM vs IPTV

Looking for an official tech support response as to which channels in the 98020 zip code are able to be decoded with a QAM tuner?

@irish91 Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help answer your question via Forums. Normally, this option would be in your TV settings. You can change the input to "Cable," and run an "Auto Program" or "Channel Scan" in the settings menu.

Are you sure about that? Are there ANY TV sets that can decode cable IPTV channels? Certainly not using the QAM tuner!

I did what you prescribed above and now have a list of ~427 channels.

However, they are in the format of ##-###. Is there a way to equate the DTV number from the scan to the equivalent Xfinity channel number?

That's an excellent question @irish91!  Because QAM (i.e. 120-1, 121-1, etc.) mapping varies by location, it can be a bit problematic.  Depending on your device you may be able to manually list the QAM number and the channel it maps to as you tune them, then use your devices 'Favorite' feature list to create a custom channel guide.

@XfinityCliff Is there a simple list of which Xfinity channels in Edmonds, WA are QAM and which channels are IPTV?

While we do not maintain an official list of channels that are QAM vs IPTV that I can share with you, you will typically find that IPTV channels live up in the 1000+ range, while QAM channels typically reside below that number, with IPTV channels residing at higher frequencies.

Rather than continuing to ask this in a general way, I will cut straight to my specific issue.  Can you put me in touch with someone who can definitively tell me if channel 1261 in the 98020 service area can or cannot be viewed using a QAM tuner?

It should be noted that we have more than a handful of channels above 1000 that are.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @irish91 and thank you for reaching out for clarification.  While we do not maintain a list indicating if channels are IPTV, there is an easy test you can perform to determine if 1261 in your area is QAM or not; If you are able to view it using the Xfinity Stream app on your account, and cannot scan it on a device like a cable card or TiVO style device that will typically confirm a channel is IPTV only. 😀

We can try to check for your specific account.  If you would like for us to do so please send us a Direct Message with your Full Name and Service address - once we are able to verify your account we can research it for you.
