Need to activate HD on my RNG 150N Cable Box

I thought it would be a simple process. Call directly to have this done. After getting through the automated recordings jungle/nightmare, I was able to talk briefly with an actual human being BUT ended up getting my call transferred, which resulted in hearing yet another automated recording, which would send out a reset signal, something I did not need nor want (though just as a 'test', I ok'd the reset signal yet never received it anyway), then the automation hung up on me. Grrrrrr......

Did you connect the cable-box to your television using a HDMI cable?   If you used a coaxial cable you will only get SD channels.

Once the box was activated, you will get HD channels.  Make sure to find a HD channel in the 800 or 900 series.

Thanks for your reply.

Currently the cable box is connected to my Samsung 32" 1080P Smart TV via an HDMI cable so the standard definition (SD) quality doesn't look bad in 4:3 picture size mode. The box is not activated yet to receive HD. Any HD channel will appear as a black screen with audio-only.

Hi there @SpindriftUSA, thanks for joining us today. I see @MNtundraRET is also helping out, so just adding on some additional questions:

  1. Are you a TV only customer? If so, are you subscribed to HD services? (you can reference your statement if you're unsure)
  2. If you are a TV and internet customer, the RNG150N is being sunset and we can send you a different cable box.
  3. Have you tried using a different HDMI cable or port on the TV?

Thanks for the reply.

Since I currently do not have HD (just SD) service it doesn't matter which HDMI port I connect the RNG 150N box to the TV.

For reference: My Xfinity Package, as billed, is X1 Starter Double Play (which includes Digital Starter, Streampix and BLAST Internet). Peacock Premium is also included for free but I can not access that on the RNG 150N box though I can access that on another HD TV (not connected to cable presently) via streaming using the Roku Streaming Stick +.

At one time, I did have the X1 box (with the blue light along the right edge of the box) mailed to me but that one [repeatedly] failed to activite so that was returned in-person and I was given the RNG 150N in its place.

Up until very recently, my main TV use to be an old FST analog standard definition model. My RNG 150N box is now connected to a new Samsung 32" HD 1080P Smart TV.

Standard definition in 4:3 doesn't look bad but of course I didn't purchase a new HD TV to still receive the lower SD resolution. I know there is an additional charge for HD, a so-called "HD Technology Fee", though I won't comment on that specific matter here.

After first attempting by phone call to get HD activated, by now, I I would have just returned the RNG 150N in person and exchanged it for the X1 box, AND ALSO making sure that I was able to receive HD on it.

I don't have a vehicle nor do I take any public transportation due to the ongoing Pandemic situation. If I can get an X1 box mailed to me, that would be great, and of course, I would return the RNG 150N in time to avoid being charged for that one before the next billing cycle.

Thanks for your reply.

"There is a shipping charge."

Forget that, especially since there are two Xfinity stores near me, I'll find a [safe way] to return the RNG 150, and at least this way I can get a positive confirmation in-person that when I activate the box I will be able to receive HD channels on it.

Take care :)

Sounds like a plan! You can find the nearest store here and our representatives will be more than happy to exchange the box for you as well as make sure you're subscribed to HD :). Please respond here once you get the new box so we can make sure everything is working perfectly!

I recently got a new Samsung smart TV and I'm in love with the fact that I could download the Xfinity Stream app and watch all my content from there without the need for a box! That's another avenue you can explore at least until you get the upgraded box :).
