... is it authentic? ...

No! The message is a scammer attempt to steal your password and goodness know what else.

If you check your email with Comcast's Xfinity Connect webmail (https://connect.xfinity.com/), look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo next to any message that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity. Note that anyone can insert an XFINITY Verified image in the body of an email, so it's important to note not only the presence of that image, but that it is in the correct locations:

  • proceeding the email subject line in the list of emails
  • above the subject line when the email is opened.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.

If the logo is missing when you view the message in webmail, the message is not from Comcast. Unfortunately, AFAIK the logo is not present when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you view their web email site in a browser.

Samples of recent phishing messages can be found at https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/alerts under "Top Phishing Scams".

@BruceW What makes us question it is that the email sender is a comcast.net email address. I figured as much, but needed to check.  I believe I reported one already to xfinity.

It did come from a comcast email. Also, the verified logo did appear in the email subject line in my list of emails. It just didn't feel right. The scary part is that people can change their emails to look as official as they want. I sometimes feel that it's only a matter of time before I get snared.

Still receiving these types of emails. Beware and follow the message above from BruceW. You will also notice the weblink in the browser tab is suspicious.

Hello.  Thank God I found this website because I just got stung by this email scam.  I tried to converse with the xFinity AI but could not get clarification of what I was experiencing.  When I finally decided to response to the email, I realized too late I just got scammed.  I immediately reported it to my bank to slam their sticky fingers on my account information.  Thanks again for this website.  VHD
