Recording Option Unavailable

I want to record the channel (non specific program) itself-which I believe gives you up to 8 Hrs.   Why am I seeing

this message on all 5 of my boxes that prevent me from doing so? Is this a temporary glitch? Under the above heading

it says " recording on this channel is unavailable". Since this message is on all channels on all 5 of my boxes boxes, and there is no

error code, logic tells me this is on your end.  Someone on your team can easily prove me wrong by trying to duplicate

what I am trying to do and report back on this thread whether you can record, or see the above message.

Thank you for reaching out, @tbill1 . I do apologize for the confusion. The X1 DVR is designed to record a specific program listed in the on-screen guide rather than an entire live channel stream for a set number of hours. Because of this, attempting to record an open-ended channel feed instead of an individual show may trigger the "recording on this channel is unavailable" message across your TV boxes.

So the fact that I have been doing this for years (invaluable for recording MLB games that have long rain delays)

was a figment of my imagination?

I completely understand where you're coming from @tbill1 , especially if this worked for you in the past. Unfortunately, I can't say why the behavior may have changed, but I do have a couple of suggestions that may help:

Record the scheduled game instead of the channel feed. Select the specific MLB game from the on-screen guide rather than attempting to record the channel for a set number of hours.

Extend the recording time manually. After selecting the game, press Record, go to Record Options, and extend the stop time by 60 to 90 minutes to help capture any weather delays or extra innings.

While recording an open-ended channel feed may no longer be supported, these options should help ensure you don't miss any of the game. 😊

The max recording is 4 hours 30 minutes with the 90 minute extension. Sometime there are 3 hour rain delays.

I don't want to watch a chopped up game by recording other time slots,

"While recording an open-ended channel feed may no longer be supported, these options should help ensure you don't miss any of the game"

What is the reason it is no longer supported?  Seems to me one more way to make your service  user unfriendly.

Thank you so much for taking sharing all those details with us, @tbill1! I know that it can be frustrating when delays happen, and the max amount of record time. At this time, the longer record feature is not available, but we will certainly document the feedback on our end as we are always looking for ways to improve the customers experience. I would also recommend submitting the feedback here
