New replacement remote. Setup not working. Tried all Sony codes. Changes channels ok. BUT volume and on/off worked only 2times and then won't work any more. Tried reprogramming again. Still didn't work for volume or on/off.

Thank you for posting your question here in the Xfinity Forum. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing. You mentioned having difficulty programming your remote. Can you please share what model remote you are attempting to program?

Have you attempted to program your remote using the directions outlined here: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/tv/answered-how-to-program-your-xfinity-x1-remote-for-tv-and-audio-control/602da4a8c5375f08cd850b58?

Did you know you can also program your remote by using the voice commands (if attempting to program an Xfinity remote)?

We look forward to hearing back from you. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for letting us know that you are trying to program an XR2 remote. From the link that ComcastJessie provided, here are the instructions for how to pair this type of remote:

To Pair an Xfinity Remote (With a Setup Button)

**Note**: These instructions apply to the following remote models: XR11 (Voice Remote), XR5 and XR2.

  1. Make sure the remote batteries are installed and your TV and TV Box are powered on.
  2. Set the TV input to the input connected to the Xfinity X1 TV Box.
  3. Press the Setup button on your remote until the LED at the top changes from red to green.
  4. Press the xfinity button on the remote. The LED will begin flashing green. (Note: When pairing an XR2 or XR5 remote to a DTA, you may need to press the xfinity button up to five times).
  5. Follow the instructions by entering the three-digit, on-screen pairing code.
Spaces for entering the three-digit pairing code.

  6. Once the on-screen pairing code is correctly entered, your remote is paired with the TV Box.

**Note**: If you do not see on-screen pairing instructions after pressing the xfinity button in step four, press the xfinity button again. You may need to press the xfinity button multiple times if there is more than one TV Box in range.

Have you given these instructions a try yet?

I think it finally worked. thank you. Your instructions were different t than those which came with the new remote picked up at the Xfinity store in San Francisco. Never received a "pairing code" or had to use one though. Hope that doesn’t mean that the pairing isn’t going to keep working. 🤞
