When will Xfinity put a stop to the fake Xfinity callers?
I got a call the day before my billing cycle ended in October for my internet, and was told that I was close to being charged overage fees given how much data I had used. The caller (who identified as a customer service rep for Xfinity) wanted me to upgrade my internet package. I explained that because there was only one day left, I wasn't going to go over the data used and I was fine with the plan I had.
I get a call from "Xfinity" (as labeled on the Caller ID) again yesterday. My phone provider (who is ALSO Xfinity) even had the checkmark next to the number verifying the call. They attempt to get me to upgrade my package instead and tell me that it will be cheaper because I'm eligible for a multiproduct discount. I said no but to gain their trust, they proceeded to tell me all of the devices connected to my Xfinity mobile plan and was able to confirm the exact amount of my bill from the prior month, INCLUDING exactly how much data I used. The numbers were all correct.
I figured it was a scam once they asked me to confirm my info, especially since most companies are adamant that they will never call and ask for your information. I even brought this up to the guy and he said that most customers share the same concerns, but again he already had a lot of verifying and legitimate info. I hung up, called the real Xfinity number, and confirmed with them that it was a scam.
Upon googling the number that called me, I've seen this same scam posted for the past two years with no resolve. I am very diligent in authorization, I never accept requests I don't initiate, so I know no one has logged in/hacked into my account. Why do these people have our information? How do they know how much data I used, or what types of devices are connected to my account? Who is Xfinity selling our data to? The same number that called me has been reported as a scam number multiple times over the past year, and Xfinity does nothing to prevent this? Doesn't automatically block their calls? Doesn't send out newsletters or bulletins about potential scams?
This is outrageous and off-putting. What is Xfinity doing to stop this from continuing?
Additional info: For reference, the scam number that called was 1-855-464-2943 - it's an 855 number. I'm not the only one with this issue.
Here is a post from August 2022 complaining about the same scam from the same number.
Here is a post from October 2022 stating that an 855 number pretending to be Xfinity had the customer's account information.
Here's different post form October 2022 post stating that someone pretending to be Xfinity had the customer's billing information.
Here is a post from March 2023 complaining about the scammers having information that no one outside of Xfinity should have access to.
This is not some randomly-selected call list gift card scam. Someone is giving our information away to this company in particular so they can target, harass, and scam current Xfinity customers. Xfinity should be ashamed. We want answers.

I received 2 of these scam calls that spoofed Xfinity in my caller ID. What is scary is with the Citrix data breach, they mentioned the last 4 digits of my checking account. I agree with that Xfinity is either giving out this information or we had our information sold with the Citrix data security breach. This needs to be investigated and could be grounds for a class action lawsuit. Definitely a scam.
