Why can't I set up a show to be recorded via My Xfinity Online accout?
How do yo set dvr to record a program when away from home? I have the remote app and find the program I want to record but don’t see option to set recording.
Comcast was found in violation of another company's patent for that feature. See employee ComcastJessie's reply in http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Stream-TV-App/Can-t-set-recordings-from-stream-app/m-p/3006430#M10834:
... Due to a legal ruling, for the foreseeable future we are removing the remote scheduling of DVR recording features. ...
How do I set a TV recording remotely (not at home)?
you don't
Use to when I logged onto my computer or phone it would give option to record / watch and I can't rmember the other option but now I don't have the option to record when I'm away from home.
That functionality has been removed from our apps. If you’re away from your DVR box and cannot schedule a recording and miss a show, check to see if it’s available on XFINITY On Demand! We apologize for the inconvenience.
Due to a judicial ruling, we are disabling this feature while we pursue an appeal.

when very similar threads are merged sometimes it locks. is unlocked now.
I am out of town and would like to set a program to record from where I am. Is that possible.
not anymore. They took that ability away a year or so ago.
Why wasn't I notified that I cannot remotely set recordings? You apparantly have had over a year to notify me, but I had to come to the forums to find out. Comcast you are selling lies.
I use my computer for watching cable channels. I have nbeen unable to record for about 6-9 months. I can use on demand but I have to start the program, it's laggy i then close browser and restart it and it's fine.
I know I can't pause live when using onlne streaming, but I'd like to be able to record again.
Is it possible to program my DVR remotely from a PC? A search shows it used to be possible from a cell phone app. But I don't have a smart phone, and the search results indicated Comcast lost a patent lawsuit to Tivo and Comcast had to disable that function.
As has been stated many times here, the answer is an absolute NO. Remote setting and adjusting of DVR recordings from anywhere other than your home where your X1 box is located is verboten. The question that everyone here should be asking is when Comcast will once again allow it's subscribers to use that feature. A few official responders on this forum have stated that Comcast has had some success in the courts and that the feature will be restored soon.
Unfortunately, repeated phone calls to various levels of Comcast management show those statements to be false and apparently posted in an attempt to try and quiet the unhappiness of their customers about this issue. It’s been over a year now and no end is in sight. I am getting the feeling that, no matter what happens, Comcast will not allow remote recording to be reinstated. We are in a black hole of information. It would be a lot better if Comcast, on an official and all customer basis, communicated with its customers, other than trying to sell,us more products. Alas, it seems that the only concern the company has is for our money and I doubt that will change.
I really liked to have the ability to set up/manage recordings from my phone, tablet or computer. Why was that removed? Is there a new app being developed? I now only have control on the TV!!!! Please bring it back! HELP
Hi @sonnedesign,
That functionality has been removed from our apps due to a judicial ruling. If you’re away from your DVR box and cannot schedule a recording and miss a show, check to see if it’s available on XFINITY On Demand! We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks, this explains the situation. Perhpas after a successful appeal, this feature will return.
It's been over a year since the lawsuit prevents users from remotely setting up recordings. Has Xfinity not figured out a way to program this feature so that there's no infringement? Please advise the status of this continuing super-annoyance.
Thank you.

Thank you.
the patent appeals have been won by Comcast but the import court has not yet removed its order.
So, I recentky updraded from DVR to the X1. Pros and Cons for sure. Quetion: I thought I was told I could log on online, go to live TV, and set up a recoding / reminder to later show on my X1 Tv?
What is the copyright problem regarding scheduled recordings from moble devices?
I have been with Comcast since it started and have always been able to use my DVR and loosing that choice is making me reconsider my options. We pay a high fee to watch TV and we should be able to watch it any way we want to with out being told what we can do or not do. Soon we want have any freedoms left because it comes down to the dollar!
Why did you remove the ability to record shows from the website? This was a great feature I used often.
addendum:
I just saw the answer to this question from another post. Hope Comcast resolves the legal issue with this asap!

Placing this here so others can see as well, thanks!
Due to a legal ruling, we disabled the remote DVR feature while we actively pursued an appeal.

They just brought it back today! It only took them 2 years to solve their dispute with Tivo, I guess? I wonder what happened, as it didn't look like it was moving in the right direction 6 months ago: https://www.insidesources.com/this-patent-battle-is-one-reason-why-comcast-customers-receive-inferio...
