Re: XG1v4 TV Box

I was wondering if someone can help me out. I just built a new home theater and was finally sent the XG1v4 box. When completed the HT will be setup for UHD and 4k, however this room is not our main location for watching TV.

Our modem and current X1 box is located in our family room. I have two other bedrooms rooms hooked up to the X1 via wireless boxes. So my question:

Do I need to move the main box (XG1v4) to the HT to watch 4k content via netflix or can I use a wireless box in the HT and leave everything setup in my family room? Do I need to move the modem to the HT also if the XG1v4 needs to be setup there?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Re: XG1v4 TV Box

The XG1V4 dvr would need to go where you want watch the 4K offerings. You don’t need to move the modem at all.

Re: XG1v4 TV Box

Okay, thank you. So the modem will basically be connected to a wireless box or does it even need to be connected to wireless box?

After the HT is setup, I will have

Xg1v4 setup in HT

Wireless box setup in family room (where modem is located) - not 4k TV

Wireless box in master bedroom

Wireless box in guest bedroom

Re: XG1v4 TV Box

The modem has nothing to do with your dvr. You’re only swapping the dvr, you shouldn’t have to do anything else.

Sometimes it can’t be helped but not a good idea to have 3 wireless boxes. 2 should be it

Re: XG1v4 TV Box

The main box (XG1v4) will be on the other side of the house from the main TV (where router is located), which will now be on a wireless box. Will the HDTV quality be compromised by the distance between the 2 boxes? If so, that will certianly be a problem. Any reason to keep the old x1 box in the family room instead of a wireless box? I would imagine I will be charged if I keep the x1 box in addition to the xg1v4.

Will I lose all the DVR recordings on the x1 box once the new box is plugged in and the x1 disconnected?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

loss depends on age of the recordings. the Cloud DVR will provide the last 60 hours recorded. or you could opt to temporarily turn in one of the smaller boxes and put your old DVR there (extra $10/month) but then you would not lose older recordings. once empty you can swap the old DVR for a companion set top box. note cloud DVR recordings are only in stereo no idea why.

It’s not the HD quality that you have to worry about. It’s going to be if the modem and Xi5 are able to communicate over that distance. You can always move it and find out

HI I am an x1 user and I have been from the very beginning for about 4 maybe 5 years now I was one of the first installs in south Florida the techs said I was their first x1 setup which took days. I was told the boxes I got were 4k compatible which is why I got them. So there not... great.. don't get me wrong I love x1 but I would have waited till it worked. They did installs here for like a week and figured out the network was not ready for x1 for like 9 more months so I dealt with 9 months of horror.

So I have 5 boxes 3 can pause and rewind tv and they have their own tuners. 2 boxes are dvrs that function as 1 dvr they share the 2 hard drives as 1 and they share the schedule. So I can record 10 shows and I have 1 tb if space.

So I have some issues

1 is there's only a 500gb hard drive. I have already noticed that shows that record don't have the same quality as live shows. There hasn't been a tech out in a long time, if you're having picture issues, have a tech out to troubleshoot. 500 gb hard drive's have been in your dvrs for a good 10 years now and cost nothing so why don't you put a 1 or 2tb hard drive in there? Att or someone has offered a 2tb hard drive for years now. Ultra HD recording are going to blow through hard drive space like it's nothing. 4k is 3 to 4 times more space then HD depending on the quality of the broadcast. When you do broadcast shows in 4k. Now I just got off the phone with sales and they want me to pay 15$ Post here to get a 4K DVR http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Customer-Service/Xfinity-4k-XG1v4-Cable-Box-Availability/td-p/2987898 so they can maIL me a 4k box but I don't want to get a 4k box and 6 months later you have a much better box with actual storage space when you realize 500gb won't cut it.
2. My other issue is loosing all my recodings. I have been told my recordings will automatically restore themselves to the new dvr. I have 2 dvrs I will only replace 1 of the 2. My understanding is only the shows that are on the cloud will be restored back on the dvr even though sale's says they will all restore regardless of whether they're on the cloud or not. The last 60 hours of the DVR you'll be replacing will be backed up. Back when the cloud backed up your dvr in full I would have believed this but then you guys decide to only back up 60 hours of shows per dvr which is horrible that was a horrible change. If all my dvr recodings will be restored regardless if I can see them on the cloud please let me know how that works. I would love to upgrade to the 4k box now but it really should have more storage space.

3. My last issue is Scheduled shows. Im told that I won't loose any of my schedule but then I was told that the recordings record on what ever box they were originally set on.Your schedule is saved to the cloud and will be there after a swap. So what happens there?

4. What I'd love to do if my recorded shows won't transfer to the new box is get the new box and have 3 dvrs permanently but in my area I don't think they allow that. Or have 3 boxes for a little while and watch everything that's on 1old dvr only. let new shows record on the new dvr empty out the old dvr and sent it back.

5. Really id love the cloud to go back to fully backing up all recodings and have 1 box that records 10 to 12 shows with 2tb of space on 1 dvr. That would be great if you could do that.

working with what we have here what can be done with all the above questions?

I have a nice Samsung un78js9500 78 inch curved ultra HD TV and I'd love to actually use it!!!
Right now i use amazon and netflixs yet I pay comcast 270$ a month and get no ultra HD at all sof please let's get on the ball! Tks
Zach;

I went into a comcast store about 2 weeks ago because I was told that they would have 4K boxes and all I had to do was bring in my old box and guess what: They told me that not only did they not carry any 4K boxes in thier store but the box wasn't even available in the state of Washington so I can assure you the info that the info that Spokane44 received from the agent on the phone was INCORRECT because I was given the same song and dance.

You will need a 4K DVR for each 4K tv you currently have to get the piddling amount of 4K they currently have.

Your posts are very difficult to follow being bunched up into one single block of words and no offense, but your sentence structure leaves a lot to be desired.

I would suggest contacting customer support or follow the link Rusty provided to obtain a 4k DVR or answer other customer support related questions. As Rusty mentioned, this thread is more for troubleshooting the 4k DVR. BTW, there is absolutely no 4k programming available at this time, short of the recorded Olympics through on demand. But you can view 4k programming of Netflix and Youtube through the new XG1v4 set-top box.

Thats how it formats my messages using my mobile device. If you want to complain about my formatting complain to comcast. That's not how i wrote my posts. Tell Comcast there is something wrong with their website when you post using a mobile device don't complain to me because I did not write it that way.

Instead of helping me your criticizing the format of a post that I have no control over.

Furthermore that's rude, not helpful and inappropriate. I am aware there's no 4k live content yet I have been waiting for many years. But there will be. I'm asking a few simple technical questions which level 3 comcast support told me to post here. I know part of my posts was a rant but I had a few questions that I was hoping someone would be nice enough to answer or at minimum give me some advice.

And I might add, nothing is preventing you from upgrading to newer hardware when it becomes available. If you're unhappy with any particular piece of hardware you have, you're not locked in to keeping it. They have been very good about this with me and normally waive the shipping charges as well. Just be nice.

Re: Xfinity XG1v4 TV Box

I have no service/picture problems with the XG1v4 box itself, but I have two complaints in general.

1. The cloud storage and DVR storage show different % which really stinks. I have to keep looking on my app to find the REAL % of space left. I found out the hard way when things were randomly disappearing.

2. The new remote. I hate it. The buttons are tiny and too close together. In addition, there is no 'TV POWER' button any longer. This is what I need to properly power on all my devices in proper sequence. So...problem solved by retaining the older remote.

I guess I'm just venting.

Regarding the remote, I completely agree with you. Personally, the XR11 looks much better, along with the center navigation buttons being more ergonomic and extremely easy to navigate in the dark. Your thumb naturally falls into place. Definitely not the case with the XR15. Not sure what they were thinking of when they designed the XR15 and hope they never phase out the XR11.

the percentage is a measure of ratio between used vs total space. The cloud DVR is measured in hours (60) so if you have 40 hours it is 40/60 or 67%. The same 60 on your home DVR is measured in terms of space used by the 40 programs which might be a mixture of SD/HD mpeg2 and mpeg4 (mpeg4 and SD being much smaller file sizes). the two percentages are not comparable and would never be the same unless both are full or empty.

I've had the 4K box for a few days now and have been having intermittent issues with the picture freezing followed by the box restarting after a minute or two. Called Comcast and they sent a refresh and i've tried a few diffenret HDMI cables but had the issue happen again two times today. Want to try and troubleshoot all options before calling for a tech to come out, Any idea on what this could be?
