New Episodes view is not good...

Separating Available, Free, & Upcoming into three separate tabs is not good.
Putting episode description on the left, rather than underneath the Episode title, where your eyes already are, is not good.
No more opacity in this view is not good.

Why was any of this even done?

You can turn this off under settings and Comcast labs. I agree that it is terrible.

Only thing I see in Comcast Labs is Cable Signal Strength...

If the setting is gone from Comcast labs then that means they rolled it out and there is no way to turn it off.

I am disabled and sometimes my eyes and brain don't work so good. The old version I had no problems with at all. I could see it, I could navigate it, it was easy. This new one I can hardly see it, I can hardly navigate it, there's way too much going on, it's hard to see the descriptions because they're on the side, it is too difficult and too much button pushing to get to what you want to get to and I end up giving up, everything about it is terrible for me. Out of all the changes Comcast has made this is by far the worst one for me. To me they keep changing things they don't need to change. They keep adding new things without fixing the old things that need to be fixed. But this one is the worst, this one makes the episode guide pretty much unusable for me. The old one was as simple as just scrolling down and finding the episode you needed that's it. Why change it when it didn't need to be changed. For me if Comcast doesn't start listening to customers like myself I am going to have to start thinking about going elsewhere when my contract is up. Comcast has some accessibility options but when they change things like this that make it harder for the people who need it the way it was. They don't care.

Sadly, my guess is that the old format Episode Guide is gone. There is much not to like about the new format and I wonder who among the beta testers thought this was a good choice for general roll-out. Personally, I like the idea of the episode text description moving to the left, since the text appears a bit larger than the previous incarnation. OTOH, the whole concept of separating things out - like taking the "NEW" and "REPEAT" badges off the main description and making them separate categories - is truly a bad and confusing idea. As @Tcalg previously stated, taking things from one-click review to multiple clicks isn't great. But, I guess we'll need to get used to it.

I came looking for information on this after first seeing the new episode listing last night.  The new format is TERRIBLE!  The tabs are needlessly complicated, moving the info to the left makes it much slower to navigate, and the gray on gray is much harder to read, particularly since the highlighted episode has the least text contrast.  This is a huge accessibility fail, apart from being more difficult to navigate and ugly to boot.  I have 20/20 vision, so I don't need larger text (and it doesn't help me), but lack of contrast is a huge problem.

I'm wondering if any of the Comcast employees that post on here, like @ComcastJK, @ComcastMorgan , @ComcastTeds, or @ComcastJesse (or anyone else with Comcast Support) could chime in here. My wife now finds the new guide all but impossible to use in our bedroom, and guess who bears the brunt of that?

Can someone please post a screenshot of what you're talking about? The "new episode" preview with tabs?

Terrible design. Added so many clicks. The old one was perfection. Return it!

It’s awful! And in the “Upcoming” column it doesn’t give you time or channel for any specific episode. Check out Dr Phil, 12 upcoming episodes on any given day and not a mention of channel or time. I don’t want to search for information! It should all be there at a glance like the old format!
I’m so tired of them messing around and ruining things that worked just fine instead of fixing stuff that doesn’t!

There was a whole other thread about this same exact issue. But Comcast must have combine the 2 threads.
