Netflix app issues

I am having trouble my Netflix app through Xfinity.  I am trying to watch the Avatar TV show, which is not in HD, but instead of having the black bars on the side of the screen, the picture stretches out to fill my TV, distorting the image (it's not zoomed, just stretched horizontally).  I checked a couple of other standard definition shows and there was the same issue.  Is there a setting to correct this?  It is not an issue with my TV, because when I connect to Netflix straight through my Vizio app, the picture is correct and my TV automatically adjusts to the correct aspect ratio, like it does when I turn on a SD TV channel.  I tried contacting Netflix help and they said to contact you.

What happens if you tune into an SD TV station? The non-X1 boxes had a setting on how to handle SD signals (stretch or leave as-is.) Not sure if X1 has something similar. X1 upconverts everything to the same output resolution, so your TV never knows what the original format was.

It shows it correctly when I tune into an SD tv station.  There's a setting on my TV that would allow me to stretch or soom on SD sations, but it's set to it's normal setting.  It's only the Xfinity Netflix app that stretches SD

I have the exact same problem, with the same show. I noticed the overlay is fine, which strongly suggest it is a Netflix app bug.

I have the same issue, and it's actually pretty new for me. I needed a new DVR box to be able to view Peacock through Xfinity and the issue has existed with netflix SD shows since the new box arrived. Live SD channels present fine (unstretched with the black bars) as does Peacock and Hulu through my Xfinity box. However, I do not have the issue when watching through Netflix on AppleTV. I would love to resolve this as I know it has worked correctly in the past.

This is a new issue that needs to be resolved by Comcast / Xfinity. I've used their Netflix for years and it's only recently (within the first half of 2020) been doing stretching 4:3 content to 16:9 regardless of the TVs settings or the settings for the set top box. If I open Netflix on either of my Smart TVs built in apps, it is in the right aspect ratio, however on my older TV, the Netflix app hasn't had an update, so it lags. The Xfinity version doesn't lag, but it's stretched. It's annoying.

Like others here, I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Other SD programs that are not through the Netflix app are displayed correctly.

I'm having the same problem. Using the NETFLIX APP on my Comcast box suddenly started stretching all the SD shows to full screen. For example, Star Trek Voyager, and Charmed. The same shows using my ROKU play fine, with black bars on the sides.

How do we get Comcast to pay attention to this and get it fixed? I tried contacting support several times, but they keep blaming the TV despite clear evidence that it's the box.

My Xfinity boxes that I'm using are the SX022ANM and AX014ANM

we are getting closer. Pick one and give title, season, episode number and to be sure it is correct for testing, the title of the episode.
