Stream on Firestick issues

I downloaded the Xfinity Stream App on my Firestick. When I choose a channel, it says “This video stream is not playable under the current device conditions. Please disconnect any external devices (including HDMI, screen mirroring, or casting devices) and try again.” The only thing that is plugged into my tv is the Firestick. Any help on how to fix this is greatly appreciated!

Xfinity Stream App on Amazon Fire Stick

Why can't Xfinity allow their streaming app to be available on Sony TVs? I have to use an Amazon Fire Stick and download some random bootleg version from Kinte.net. The app has lines going through the graphics and it's buggy. The app is clearly labeled Xfinity though. Protect your brand! Otherwise saavy people will figure out workarounds that make your brand look bad. What's the big deal with getting it launched with Sony? You already did it with Samsung and LG? Then I can ditch my Fire Stick altogether.

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

Your answer makes no sense. I downloaded and installed the Xfinity streaming app on seven separate Firestick 4k units, following the directions of a Comcast support tech I had on the phone. This was over 2 years ago. They all worked fine until a few days ago, when I started getting the message that the app needed to be updated from the app store. After clicking on the app store, it says the app isn't available.

Four of the Firesticks continue to work with the Xfinity app, if I ignore the message to update. However, three of them will not work at all after the update message.

On those three, I deleted the app, and using Dowloader I downloaded the latest version of the Xfinity app for Firestick 4k, and installed it. After installation, when I click on the Xfinity stream icon, it lets me sign in with my User and Paasword. But that's as far as it goes. I never had to open the Xfinity app in a browser before. (Still don't on the four units that are still working.) After the new installations, after signing in, the app opens in a browser (either Chrome or Firefox), and then displays an error message stating the URL can't be resolved.

So... basically it's useless. Looking at what's happening on the Internet, it seems that millions of people are having the same issue.

I pay my (way overpriced) monthy Comcast subscription fee, and I expect to be able to stream Xfinity on any device I connect to the Internet.

When is this going to be fixed?

it isn't 'broken' it is an unauthorized device (fire stick).

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

So you are saying that Comcast has recently de-authorized Firesticks as an approved device??

This is the new update, that we are forced to install/upgrade to?

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

The comcast technicians advised it will work on a firestick and even gave me directions. I am paying for the service I have to login, let me watch it.

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

I have the same issue,  Been using stream on the firestick for years.  In fact it was a comcast support employee who told me about it.  Worked fine until 2 days ago.  Obviously there has been an APP change to disallow those using Firestick to Stream live TV.

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

I was told by comcast customer service that it was a contract negotiation. Firesticks were deauthorized while they are arguing over a contract between Comcast and Amazon.  I was told to get a Roku device.  Worst customer care ever.

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

Thanks for having this topic here. I have had the same issue, and was up late following Youtube videos to update the app (deleting and reinstalling etc.) and when it finally let me log in with the mouse toggle I got the channels up and then got the message it was not compatible yada yada.  😡 It was also suggested to me by Comcast support to just use the Firesticks I had.

Still no comment from xFinity on this question. Why? Too many DVR rentals at stake?

Re: Xfinity Stream App on Amazon Fire Stick

I have been a subscriber to Xfinity/Comcast for 40 years.  I have cable, internet, and phone.  Because like many families we have at least 7 TVs.  3 use rented cable boxes, 1 uses a Roku, and 3 use Amazon Firesticks.  I downloaded the Xfinity Streaming app a few years back on these TVs, and while they say "it's not supported" but they did work on my amazon fire stick and fire box.  They didn't have the same GUI as the Roku, but I could watch live channels, recorded, on demand, everything.

Then on one more used it kept saying "update available" and it would go to Amazon app store and said "unavailable."  So I ignored, for a while, then finally the app stopped streaming.  So I uninstalled the app, and installed the latest version ver 6.2.2.002, and it worked, looked a lot slicker.  But it won't play Xfinity programming.  Keeps giving me an error something about device or device settings or connection.  I have a support ticket into Xfinity Tier 2, and waiting for help.  I Xfinity want's their customers to use their services, they need to make their streaming app work on all android devices including Amazon Fire stick.  Why Roku and not Amazon fire stick. . someone getting paid?

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

Same here. I've had the Xfinity Stream app on my Firestick for over a year. A week or so ago it stopped working and said that I needed to update the app. I removed the old version, installed the new version, signed in, browsed to my recordings and it says "We're sorry. This video stream is not playable under the current device..." First of all, we know that you're not the least bit sorry and that you deliberately removed Firestick support because you are a greedy monopoly of a company. Quit playing these ridiculous games and fix the app!

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

I've spent the the past 3-4 days on tech support with Comcast on this.  They even elevated me to "Tier 2/advance."  Tier 1 just says "not compatible" with fire stick, but like you I've used it for at least 2 years now, an older version for sure, and like you kept asking me to update, and Amazon store said "unavailable?" So I would just ignore it and continued to use the app.  Then it suddenly would not work anymore, so like you, I uninstalled, installed latest version 6.2.2.002, and launched it, signed into my acct, and it seemed to be working. . better, slicke GUI, but I couldn't get any programming to play, live or recored.  Got the same error. . " “This video stream is not playable under the current device conditions. Please disconnect any external devices (including HDMI, screen mirroring, or casting devices) and try again.” "  Which doesn't make sense.

I've been with Comcast for nearly 40 years, and I'm not going to let them pass the buck on this.  They force you to rent their cable boxes, and with 7 or so TVs, I have 3 rented, a Roku which the app works fine, and 3 fire sticks on dumb TVs.  One other firestick is starting to give me the same "update" message, so I figured this one will go down too.  I thought the solution would be to load an older version of the app, but I fear it internally will recognize it's not uptodate and do the same thing.  Comcast/Xfinityt HAS to resolve this.  If it's getting revenue from Roku, fine, but it has to make it work with Fire Sticks and other "android" streaming devices.  By the way the minimum OS is Android 5, and the firesticks are all qualified.

If I understand, you loaded an app on the firestick that was not authorized by the firestick (it is available for free using a Roku). Now that the unauthorized device does not work, I'd be glad I was able to use it for so long. When you first run the stream app it asks you to agree to the terms and conditions for use of the free app.

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

I had fire sticks when I gave back the boxes so I did the workaround until they stopped working with this update. . I recently ordered two of the cheapest Roku ones and the app works 100% better. It is much easier to use and doesn’t hang up like the fire sticks.

Re: Stream on Firestick issues

Thanks Jill, I agree.  Xfinity volunteer expert "Rustyben" claims this app was never meant to work with fire sticks or Roku.  Mine works fine with my Roku, but not with fire sticks . . now.  I'd like to see if I can get the developers to fix this, since they did work.  I've been on the phone for hours working Xfinity "tier 2" (real experts!) on this with no luck.  So in case this issue just gets dropped, and I expect it will, I ordered 2 of the Rodu streaming sticks (higher cost than "Premier") because they can use 5.0 ghz wifi, and have increased wifi reception.  That way I can use them if the fire stick issue can't be resolved by Xfinity or myself.
