Some of the best DVRs available for purchase are, in order: Tablo, Alexa Recast, Channelmaster, anything you can find from silicondust including HD Homerun, Plex. There are some good TIVO deals available too. Guide data is actually proprietary so you will find it difficult to find it for free and accurate. To compare pricing given proprietary guide data, consider the "lifetime" deal and whether that means the lifetime of your device or your lifetime as a subscriber.

Several of these are over-the-air only and cannot record cable TV channels, at least, not directly, correct?
