Xbox says it’s paused but app doesn’t

Hello, I am trying to connect my xbox to my xfinity wifi and it says that it needs to authenticate the connection then tells me that it is paused and I need to unpause it on the app to fix it but when I go to the app, it says the xbox is not paused and connected the internet.

Hello @user_6dac92, thank you so much for taking the time to reach out. What do your modem firewall settings look like?

I’m not sure what that is but it’s an xfinity modem. I think what the problem is that since I’m in an 4 apartment building the cable must be overlapped somewhere and my xbox is showing up on one of my neighbors xfinity wifi and they are pausing it causing it to be paused on mine. I’ve been doing some research on it and that’s the only logical thing I could think of or saw other people having problems with online. Is there anyway I can bypass that and get my xbox back up on my wifi

Sounds like you may not have a MoCA filter on your line. The MoCA filter keeps your equipment on your in home network and keeps others out. If your Xbox is jumping on a neighbor's internet without having to log into their network, that's a strong possibility. They can also pause internet to the Xbox since they see it's not supposed to be on their network. When you log into your modem do you see the Xbox listed as a device?

now i have multiple devices that are saying they are paused. i noticed some devices that aren’t mine on my wifi app so im thinking someone else is seeing my devices and they’re pausing them. im going to pause their devices to hopefully get them to unpause mine. but if that doesn’t work im going to need you guys to do something. i used the connections given to me by xfinity when setting up the wifi and i would love if you guys were able to do something on your end to clear this up. or maybe have a person come out to the apartment units and figure this all out

@user_6dac92 It's not a remote solvable issue.  You can save yourself the $100 service call fee if you fix it yourself.  You have a security problem.  So do your neighbors.  I wouldn't hold out too much hope for a "pause war" fixing your security problem.  I wouldn't want unknown devices on my network either -- burning a data cap and bandwidth, plus other potential identity, virus and data theft problems.  I would also rid myself of a gateway with the security problem in the first place.  Obviously, security wasn't a concern for the hardware manufacturer, or Xfinity.

You can also however, try an MoCA PoE filter (point of entry filter) without changing out your gateway with 3rd party equipment.  It blocks the higher frequency MoCA uses (and your neighbors devices).  Then you would connected to your own network with your Xbox and not your neighbors gateway, and you wouldn't see your neighbors potentially infected devices on your network.  If you have no MoCA devices yourself, like a coax connected cable tv box, you can screw it inline on the coax right to the back of your gateway.  If you do have coax connected devices, it should go on the coax where your service enters your residence.

They're around $10 on Amazon, or you can order one on Walmart's site, and have it delivered to a Walmart by you in a day usually.  You can also get one at an Xfinity store if there is one by you.  You might be able to find one cheaper somewhere else.  Search for "MoCA PoE filter" to find one.

@flatlander3 thank you for this as it has been the only response that actually explains what i can do. however just so you’re aware i did start that pausing war and am currently winning. i only had a couple devices paused from them but i paused all their devices and they are panicking. i feel like thanos with all this power. however because i am a good person i will be unpausing their devices and going with your much more civil souluton. thank you for you help

@user_uew400 Thank you for reaching out on the Xfinity Community Forums. Are you still seeing an issue with not being able to unpause a device or it showing that it is paused when it is not?

@user_uew400 Hello, adding this MoCA Filter did in fact work. All I had to do was screw it into the back of my modem and let the wifi restart. I have not had any issues since I added this.
