Unable to connect to Riot Valorant servers

Hello,

I'm having issues connecting to the Riot Valorant servers. They were working fine up until Friday (March 4th) and since then, I've been getting Error VAL 7, 29, 59.

I went through the RIOT support and help and did all the steps to try to fix it.

Added the programs to the firewall, disabled the firewall, uninstalled Vanguard and reinstalled. Reinstalled the whole game. Still same issue.

To further confirm that its not a PC issue, I installed the game on a laptop and ran into the same connectivity issue.

All seems to point to the ISP but when I called the technical support line, they ran a modem reboot and said that everything looks good on that side and that it is most likely the game server.

I highly doubt that since it would be something that more people would be facing.

I ran a traceroute to the Valorant NA servers and it seems to be that there is an issue as it doesn't look the same as when running a traceroute to google.com for example.

It seems I'm not the only one having this issue, someone quoted this post here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/t8idnx/unable_to_connect_to_riot_valorant_servers/

It's looking like a Minneapolis issue that started around the same time for everybody (Thursday night-Friday)

For what it's worth, using a VPN fixes this issue so that seems to indicate that if the traffic is routed through Xfinity, we can't reach the Valorant servers.

Also posting the information given by Riot support:

 Pasting response here:

“Looking at the winmtr resutls it seems like there may be an issue with your network that needs to be addressed.

At this point I'd recommend reaching out to your Internet Service Provider for further help. Contact a tier 2 agent as they'll generally be better equipped to handle cases like this. It appears that you're getting network issues after the following host:

192.168.0.1

Feel free to show them the trace results as that might help them better diagnose the issue.

Let me know if you have any questions, but keep in mind that your ISP is your best be at resolving this.”

I think we need someone on the Xfinity side to check if something changed on their backend to cause this issue.

Hello @alejodp93 and thank you for reaching out. I know how important it is to access Riot Valorant servers. Have you checked to see if you have a port blocked on your modem that would be disabling access?

@XfinityMikeB This is not a problem on all of our ends. This is a problem with Xfinity's denying us access to the PORT'S for Valorant and other games. Please tell your supervisor this needs to be fixed on the TECH end at XFINITY

Yes, still going on.  Just checked.  Can access the valorant client server by using a vpn, but can't do it directly.  Consistent with what many people are seeing: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/t8idnx/unable_to_connect_to_riot_valorant_servers/

@alejodp93  and @user_bc0816 FWIW here, 50.248.117.30 is a Comcast backbone router. Your packets are not being forwarded past it.

@EG Thanks for looking into it! I can confirm if I use a VPN, I can connect to Valorant servers so it can't be a router/modem issue in my end.

I am having this same exact problem. Difficulty connecting to the riot client, and then I get Val errors 7, 9, 29, and 59. I've tried reinstalling, restarting, resetting my router and modem, and opening riots ports. This is happening on all devices on my wifi.

Sacramento CA area

@Raingame Use a VPN to login to Valorant and get to the game main page. Then you can turn off the VPN and play as normal (you can use a free VPN like tunnel bear to do this). Not sure why this issue is happening though.

Until there is an official fix, I've found using a VPN like TunnelBear works. Turn it on while you start the Riot Client and Valorant, then turn it off once are you in.

Lookup protonvpn. It's free and you can turn it off when you get to the menu.

@tausif124. This type of issue we first want to put in a ticket to bring attention and we have more steps to take if that doesn't lead to anything. Let me know if you would like to do that.

I'm experiencing this issue as well from the Sacramento/Elk Grove, CA area. Seems to be an problem in this region. Glad I'm not the only one. Using a VPN works but it's not really a solution to the issue.

Currently started experiencing these Val codes: 7-19 and 29 on 3/19/2022. I'm also from the Sac area so I don't feel to bad now knowing that there are others. What's the update on this?

This is still an ongoing issue, and it's frustrating having to work with a VPN just to get a single application working.

We never want to see you having trouble like this, especially with your relaxation time. While we're happy you're able to use a VPN as a temporary solution, that's not what we want for you in the long run. We're here to help. Have you tried any troubleshooting so far? If so, did anything help at all?

@XfinityJoshuaE Dude, you gotta tell your supervisors that there's an ISSUE with the RECENT XFINITY UPDATE for the SACRAMENTO/ELK GROVE AREA. This is NOT AN ISSUE WE CAN FIX. It's on the ISP END. For some reason you guys blocked a ton of ports that online games use to connect people. I can't play Escape from Tarkov either right now. This is NOT modem/computer/Valorant/Escape from Tarkov problem. This is a ISP PORT PROBLEM.

Issue still ongoing in Minneapolis.  Have had multiple interactions with Xfinity customer support and so far zero benefit.  Multiple chat support session, they just keep resetting the router, which of course doesn't do anything b/c it isn't a house network issue it is an infinity network problem. Then they said the signal wasn't great, sent two different techs out to the house, changed the line from the house b/c they said there was water in it.  And of course that wasn't the problem b/c speeds were fine, no packet loss, no real connection issues to the internet before or after, just the game client servers are blocked.   Problem still exists 3 weeks after first being reported.  Same as others I can connect through a VPN, then disconnect, but it is still prone to disconnects after any given game ends.  Have also had multiple email exchanges with Valorant.  They recognize it is a regional issue and are trying to work with the provider, but nothing so far.  Did everything else you can imagine at least 3x each (reset client, reload uninstall/relaunch vanguard, uninstall/reinstall valorant, etc.), which is dumb on my part b/c it is still just an Xfinity issue.  And now they have replicated the problem in Sacramento it looks like a couple weeks after here.  Talked to their tech support again today and they want to send out a higher tier tech again to the house???  If they can fix it, will post an update.  Probably in another couple weeks we will see another city reporting similar connection problems if they are rolling out an upgrade across their system.

I did that after previous posts.  Chat just resets router.  Tech came out, very nice guy, signal clear here, no network issues on my end.  Traceroute still showing blockage at same comcast backbone.  You can tell from DNS lookup it is somewhere in Witchita, KS.

Hello all,

It seems that even after installing a VPN (I use ProtonVPN), I am unable to still connect to Valorant game services and I am unsure as to why. I also went through the riot support with the WINMTR tests and uninstalling reinstalling the game and restarting the router, but still Valorant won't work even with a VPN. I have tried multiple VPN's such as TouchVPN as well. Can anyone maybe help me resolve this issue?

Same problem here, Elk Grove area.
I don't pay 200+ dollars a month for the fastest internet available to not be able to play whatever i want.
This has been going on for weeks now, i guess it's time to go swap to consolidated communications and just get fiber.
