Re: New XB7 Gateway

I have the XB-7, Blast, etc. Wired I'm pulling ~300Mbps. WiFi from 20' away about 70Mbps.

Comcast / Xfinity, just retired after 40 years as a Network Administrator with years at four Fortune-500 Corporations so I know a *bit* about networking. Any input greatly appreciated but please spare me the basics.

Thanks.

Here's a good one from ComcastCares Support on Twitter. I asked where the Antenna's were on the XB7. I.e., side, top, back, front, rear. Enjoy.

update from @telcodad  @jweaver0312

FYI -  XB7 users on the DSLReports Comcast forum are reporting that a new firmware update, "CGM4331COM_3.14p7s1_PROD_sey," has now been released that enables Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax): https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32469291-Equip-XB7-Technicolor-CGM4331COM-Arris-TG4482-Wireless-AX...

Those settings are locked to you, thanks to xFi Mesh Mode so you wouldn’t be able to change it to that anyhow.

From my knowledge at the moment, the XB7 does not support 160 MHz (same for XB6) nor does it support 802.11 ax at this time

Still no joy? Have you attempted to use a Cat6e cable to isolate the issue to the WiFi, or swapped XB7 boxes yet?

How do you know if this firmware is installed? - found it "CGM4331COM_3.14p9s1_PROD_sey"

I'm having WPS issues with my devices too.  They say conneected "successfully" but not broadcasting.  It's an HP Printer

@Wardman Go to 10.0.0.1 and use the default login "admin" and password "password" or whatever you changed it to. Sign in, then go under "Software" and you'll see the version. The one listed here is for an XB6 not an XB7

I'm seeing this, so think it is current.  Agree?:

System Software Version

eMTA & DOCSIS Software Version: Prod_19.2_d31 & Prod_19.2
Software Image Name: CGM4331COM_3.14p9s1_PROD_sey
Advanced Services: CGM4331COM
Packet Cable: 2.0

Still unable to connect to my HP M1217nfw using WPS though.  It says conneted, but never actually does.  Works fine with USB.  I've disconnected that too to see if it was having problems with some sort of handshake (never did with XB6)

I haven't had much luck with WPS. I'd recommend trying to use the on-printer screen first, and as last resort the HP software and connect wirelessly.

Good luck with not getting a ton of bloat installed, triple check the opt-outs, they are embedded as links in the text as you go through the installer.

As an FYI, WPS has a security vulnerability. You can Google for more info. Never use it. Disable it and always configure your WiFi settings manually !

Thanks - no option to manually add....  I tried.  But last night it came on line.  I'm rollling with it for now and see how it goes.

Testing with a reliable known good laptop that is giving me the ~300Mbps (avg ~245Mbps) hardwired throughput.

I just got an XB7 with the 600 Mbps plan, and what you describe here is exactly the issue that I am having.  A direct connection with laptop gives me ~345 Mbps.  When I switch the XB7 to bridge mode and use my own firewall I get ~400 MBps. I am also seeing articles related to this device, and calling out the Intel Chipset as the issue.  Are other folks seeing this issue?  I am hearing that anything over ~400 Mbps and this device starts choking.

Just did a search and was able to confirm that this model is using Broadcom and not Intel.  Still getting poor throughput.  Comcast even provisioned the modem for GIG and it could not push more than 400 Mbps through it.

I have the XB7 on a 600 mbps plan and routinely pull over 700 mbps on all Speedtests.

You aren’t looking hard enough. All printers have a way to manually setup the wireless connection if supported, especially HPs.

yeah, this is either a bad unit, or there is some issue locally.  Even after provisioing it for GIG speed I could only get 400 Mbps
