Hello @Geochurchi6 you are asking a great question! Signal leakage, also known as signal noise/egress, happens when the signal traveling through a coaxial cable interferes with other communications or services. Signal leakage can be caused by a number of things, like loose connectors, cracked or un-terminated cables, and/or a damaged plant. Any time the issue occurs, we act quickly to correct it as it can not only disrupt Xfinity services, but other over-the-air communication services as well. We always work to fix the issue at the source, and depending on what is causing the issue, we will perform network maintenance to quickly make any repairs/replacements needed. When it comes to utilizing a filter, this can be used when our technicians track the source of the noise to a specific location. The filter is then put in place to stop that leakage from impacting the network. If having the filter resolved the issue in a way that homes in the area are no longer experiencing noise, then it may be left. However, it can also be used to help temporarily stop the leakage while we then work to complete any maintenance needed to stop it without the use of a filter. Please let me know if this helps provide more insight, or if you have any more questions/concerns on this!

@XfinityKatie Thanks for that explanation, there are 2 or 3 filters in the plant that serves my home, Comcast contacted us for a complimentary visit to inspect my wiring, no issues found and filter was removed, why was I the only customer contacted, trying to contact Customer service is nearly impossible, customers in this community of 63 homes have probably given up and continue to complain about constant dropped internet service.

@Geochurchi6 I of course do not have the details of your specific situation, however when signal leakage is being investigated, every effort is made to contact the residents of the detected problem homes. If there is a resident that was not able to be contacted, if they contact us with a problem, we will be able to see notes associated with the leakage issue and be able to take action from there. My suggestion is if you know anyone with a service issue, encourage them to reach out to us so that their account can be checked, and a tech dispatched if need be.

Noise is commonly generated from someone's premises and gets introduced into the cable infrastructure / plant and can affect all neighbors on that cable segment / node.  When a noise trap is placed on a customer's line, it is not a permanent fix, it's only a temporary measure. And it affects that customer's service so much so as to force them to make a trouble call. That is when they send a tech out to address the problem at those particular premises.
