What internet modem do you have?

Is the Kindle showing up on the Available Wi-Fi list on your computer?  It most likely needs the 2.4 GHz band.

@MNtundraRET

So, assuming that they are using a Comcast rented gateway device, would you please share what they need to do to connect to the 2.4 GHz band.

@EG

I would if I ever had a Comcast gateway. I have no issues connecting all my devices to my Zyxel C3000Z Gateway including 2 Kindles. I see both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands showing in the Wi-Fi list along with some neighbors. That was the reason for the question. Maybe you know more about Comcast gateways.

It would really help if the OP would let us know what model modem they are using.

Well I don't have one either, but there is this;

@user_39d05a I'm not sure if this still applies. YMMV;

The two WiFi bands SSID's have been combined into one with the Comcast gateway devices. Some devices get confused and don't know how to see / talk to combined SSID's.

If you are not using any Xfi Pods, you can try separating the combined 2.4 and the 5.0 band's names and give them two different broadcast names / SSID's. Associate the Kindle with the new 2.4 SSID (broadcast name) and password.

"log in and click the "Connect" button at the bottom of the screen. Select your network name and then "View or edit Wi-Fi settings. On the next screen, you should be able to toggle on the Split bands button. One enabled scroll up to edit the bands."

@EG

My gateway has an excellent manual found online. I don't know if that can be said for Comcast gateways or modems.

@user_39d05a It looks like there's been some great advice in this thread. Did @EG's advice work to split the networks and connect your kindle to the 2.4 ghz?

@XfinityJennifer I'm having the same problem. My kindle will connect to other open wifi, but not mine. I chatted with xfinity and was told I needed a new router, which I now have and still cannot connect my kindle. I used the instructions given by "EG" above and my router is locked down and I can't changes to the 2.4ghz. I can see it, but all is greyed out. Can you help me?

Thank you for reaching out and confirming that information, @user_03ab10. Do you know what Xfinity Gateway you have connected? Were you attempting to change the WiFi channel on the app?

I no longer work for Comcast.

Evidently Kindles using version 5.--- or older are no longer supported by Comcast. You will need version 6.--- or newer to work here. The older ones still work on my Xzxel C3000Z gateway used on DSL broadband Internet.

I just noticed our oldest Kindle HD was version 6.3.--. We had two newer Kindle HD's. One failed because of a bad battery which failed to hold a charge.
