DHCPv6 Missing Option 24 and Option 82 Persistent XFi Event Error Logs

I think there is a major problem with Xfinity  DHCP server. I have gazillions of messages per day in the log:

What do the modem's signal stats look like ? Try getting them here; http://192.168.100.1 or here http://10.0.0.1 

Please copy all of the text in its entirety of the *Downstream Power Levels*, the *SNR's* (Signal to Noise Ratios), and the *Upstream Power Level* numbers and paste them into your next post.


What is the exact make and model number of the modem / gateway device ?

Is this a WiFi connection ?

Click on that second blue-colored link that I posted. admin is the default username and password is the default password. Once you log in, and are at the main screen, you will need to select the dropdown menu for Connection under Gateway. Then select XFINITY Network. Scroll down to find the downstream power, the SNR, and the upstream power information.

@EG​ thanks a ton. I hope the below is what you need to help me here. just FYI: at the moment no drops/errors/disconnect or freeze of the XFi Gateway. Also, no additional log entries. another FYI: there are more entries in downstream etc. do you need all?

Problem statement: devices are losing Ethernet connection to the XB7 (WiFi seems to be ok). XFi POD losing connection; sometimes the Xfi Gateway is "frozen", means I'm not able to login

just a minute ago I lost Ethernet connection with one device. Unplug and plug in fixed it. Error log shows this:

The signal stats were good / within specs at that snapshot in time. You may want to consider getting it swapped out for another. It may be malfunctioning.

@EG​ thank you for checking!! Highly appreciated. I swapped it out with another XB7, same problem. 

I wish I could create an actual snapshot when it happens. As we "speak", again a drop. I will reach out to Xfinity for another replacement, but I fear the problem is on their end. I need to restart (again) the modem, and here is what I found in the log:

I checked the forum and it looks like a bunch of people experiencing the same issue and for me it looks like its always the XB7.

I’m having that exact same issue after putting the XB7-CM modem/router and bridge mode for my new DIR-1950 D-Link Router and now none of my rokus or my usb Wi-Fi adapter will connect to my wireless connection. The Roku TV won’t even accept a wired connection and I can’t figure out a solution that don’t kill the internet

Thanks for letting us know you are having connection issues with the XB7 as well, @RAJKRISHANSINGH. Are you seeing any error messages in your modem logs? What steps have you tried to get it to accept the wired connection again?

I have had this same issue since getting new equipment. It results in an entire 5-10 downtime cycle of my gateway. The TG4482A from ARRIS Group, Inc. I have replaced the equipment twice in the past week and an advanced tech is coming out tomorrow. Half the time, the wifi is "connected" but totally down across all devices; the other half sends the gateway into a full reboot cycle.

I have been painfully working with tech support and they even confirmed that I had an average uptime of 16 hours out of 24 hours for a few days. There is a fix I am trying from this post, (basically messing with Dhcp Server stateful options) https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/symptom-cannot-reach-url-dhcpv6-missing-option-24-and-option-82-persistent-cable-model-event-error-logs/622cf2e26c4cd02237d454e5

If this works, then I imagine far more people are putting up with this bonk configuration than these forums reflect.

@calebisstupid​ You aren't going to have a lot of options on most gateways/routers, but if you do, I ended up setting router mode advertisements as "assisted RA flags managed, other stateful" on BSD.

There was also an issue where dhcp6 was releasing the lease, then trying to renew it.  The problem was that nobody is home quite a bit of the time on a lease renew, or Xfinity just doesn't answer.  Throwing the -n flag so you don't release (called Do not allow PD/Address release) on my stuff seems to help and you don't get the dead time where your clients are boned waiting for the lease on WAN to renew (network stall).

Xfinity is zero help on this.  They can't even tell me what to use for delegation prefix size.  Let everyone know if you get it working right on your gear.
