Data usage in Xfinity app exceeds what Google WiFi router is reporting
Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this issue. The data usage for Home Internet reported by the Xfinity mobile app far exceeds what my Google Wifi router is showing per device and in aggregate for the same time period. I've been monitoring both in real time in parallel to be sure.
For example, I have a bring-your-own cable modem + Google Wifi router, and the router reports about 1 GB up and 1 GB down usage within a 24 hr period. Whereas the Xfinity app shows a jump of about 15 GB between data usage in the same time period. There are no devices connected directly to the cable modem, so the router is tracking them all. And there are no unknown devices guest connecting to the network either.
Any ideas on this one? There's a mystery jump that happens overnight, and it's not any of the devices in the household since I'm tracking per device usage.
Edit: For what it's worth, I see others reporting similar issues in the past re: unexplained data usage surges that have nothing to do with home usage:

I got a Netgear that's a bit goofy. I don't know what the data counter on that actually counts, but it's not data and I wouldn't trust a consumer router for a firewall as far as I could throw it, especially one you configure with a phone app. I don't know what your google router actually counts either. Maybe it's blind to protocols. Maybe something gets past it. You can check that by moving large files of known size using different protocols. Also remember their data reporting by Xfinity is delayed -- "up to" 24 hours according to them for some reason. I don't know what they're counting either or how true that is, or when their third party updates your data usage. For the previous 4 months, it's only recorded ~40GB for the month for me, except this month where it's reporting half of what I can prove I used. So that's obviously not right either.
Put Linux or BSD box between your google WiFi router and modem. Something that you can see low lever driver information on. Then use something like ntopng, bandwidthD or even something simple like darkstat to see internal device data and wireshark on the WAN to see what's actually going on and if you are getting attacked. Botnet attack, sync flood, some other amplification attack etc. Maybe you're getting bombed with frags and runts and responding to, or it's from some other issue. Maybe also try disabling ipv6 for a test and see if makes a difference. Disable ICMP protocol while you're at it. Make sure you're not running any public facing service either (port forward, remote management, etc).

I’m having this same issue. My Google WiFi is reporting about half the download data that Xfinity is reporting. It’s annoying because I’m going over my data cap this month.
What is odd is earlier this year I was going over data cap for a couple of months, yes the Google wifi was saying I was Wayyyy over data (like double what Xfinity was saying). Now, it’s the opposite!
Earlier this year I was transferring a ton of data via my laptop to iCloud (loading old photos from my NAS to the cloud). I believe my laptop kept syncing with iCloud and causing the huge data jumps back then. Now, I’m not sure what is causing the data issues because the readings from Google wifi aren’t making sense.
