Admin Tool password

Hey, everyone. I recently moved and with that, I was given an XB8 router/modem. I am trying to set the router to Bridge mode but I have been unable to access the admin portal as the usual sticker at the bottom of the router isn't there.

Logins I've tried:

  • admin / password
  • account ID / password for the Xfinity app
  • admin / password for the Xfinity app
  • account ID / password
  • admin / default config password for WiFi
  • account ID / default config password for WiFi

I have also tried on Safari browser, Firefox, Brave, and Chrome for logging in. I've seen other posts that the Admin Tool functions are being moved to the Xfinity app, but the Xfinity app tells me that those functions are automatically configured and I am unable to configure them. I tried calling Xfinity support but they stated they do not give out the password anymore. Is this a case where I will have to purchase my own Modem or VPN tunnel into my network for my homelab?

Hi there, @user_tn3uey Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us today! I do apologize for the inconvenience, over the next few weeks, the Admin Tool accessed via http://10.0.0.1 on your home network will be turned off to help keep your Wifi as secure as possible. You can now easily manage your Wifi setting and equipment with the Xfinity APP.-rICHARD

I just need to know how to change routers MAIN password NOT WIFI password using Xfinity App. says password on bottom of box is wrong & it's [Edited: "Language"] to no end.  I just want to check my settings & remove the upload throttle that Comcast "SWEARS" they don't cause despite ALL of the users who say otherwise & personal experience.   OR do I have to switch to AT&T fiber to get satisfying results?

Zero_Given If this is a personal router, we would not have settings for it using the Xfinity app. You would still use the router's admin tool for access to make those changes. A common way to do that would be to access the IP for the router by entering it in as a URL. As for throttling, we do not have the ability to do that with our network options, but there are lots of issues that can mimic throttling. For example, if using the incorrect equipment in an upgraded area. Not having the correct boot file provisioned to a device, or upstream or downstream power level issues To naem a few. If you are having issues with your connection, however, we are always happy to help. Just let us know!

I can confirm, with the latest version of the Xfinity app (5.62.1-4), under advanced settings, there is now a "admin tool online access" option that lets you enable access to the web admin tool (10.0.0.1).

Once enable, you login with "admin" as username and the password found on the bottom of your gateway.

(FYI - I have an XB8 gateway)

Confirming as well. Note, the password is just the basic password under the basic/setup SSID.

According to the Xfinity website on making changes to the gateway, you no longer have the option to make any changes to your router (XB6 and higher) using either the admin tool or the Xfi app. ::Furthermore if you want to add and IP address or such, Xfinity cannot do that from their office either due to privacy reasons! @bbutcher85 Not sure what you are talking about. I'm able to log into the xfinity app and make all kinds of changes to my XB8. Split bands, edit my LAN settings, port forward, turn on access to the admin tool, and set up a DMZ.
