Casting Xfinity Stream Content to Chromecast Now Available

Good news! Xfinity customers can now cast programming from the Xfinity Stream app directly to Chromecast devices and supported-TVs. Just look for the casting icon on the top righthand side of the screen to start casting.

Ok yes this is good news but you have a problem. For the first few days it worked perfectly while casting to my Google Nest Hub Max smart display either from my phone app or from the web. However after a few days the picture quality deteriorated dramatically. The picture is now dull and slightly blurry...and this happens while casting both from the web and from my xfinity phone app. Also the sound is not as crisp as it one was.

It is not a problem with my nest Hub Max so do not even go there. Everything else streams with a high picture quality like Youtube, Sling etc.... Even the same stations (cnn, Msnbc, NBC etc..) stream perfectly while streaming through the specific app (IE: CNN streams with excellent picture quality while streaming through CNN app logged in through Xfinity account).

Strangely enough though I find no picture quality problem when streaming to my TV.

It seems to me that somehow Xfinity lowered the picture quality for streaming to smart displays. Xfinity had the picture quality working perfectly in the beginning so it can be done.

Please advise because this is very dissapointing.

the display device appears to have less internet connectivity or other devices on your network are using the available bandwidth leaving little for the casting.

Yes but I have a very strong and stable connection. Like I said before, every other streaming service displays an excellent picture quality. Not only that, Xfinity did cast an excellent picture to the Nest Hub Max dispaly for the first few days,,then after that it deterioated to a blurry dull mess.

It is not the Nest Hub Max or a problem with my internet connection. In fact, the picture does start out great  on Xfinity but after 30 seconds becomes dull and blurry. This does not happen on all other streaming services and I have tested a lot of them.

Same here. The quality is really bad when casting. I'm guessing it is to discourage chromecast use. Not sure but I've tried a few things and it's only when casting.

it is a digital signal limited by the quality of wifi and the congestion of your 2.4ghz radio network.

Isn't Chromecast only 2.4ghz?

Only the 1st Gen Chromecast were 2.5ghz only. Every model after that is capable of 5ghz wifi.

Exactly as I stated before. So, has anyone fixed this?

I'm having a similar issue, at least when casting to my Channel Master Stream+ (which runs Android TV.) It'll actually start as a high-quality HD stream, then scale down to what appears to be a 480p-quality stream after a couple of seconds. I have a gigabit connection which speedtests and real-world gives much of that gigabit, and I've tried both 5GHz wireless and wired-in for my Stream+. I don't have this issue with other apps on the Stream+.

Hello- I am late to this discussion but I have been streaming my xfinity app to my Chromecast and am experiencing the same exact issues as you are. All of my apps for live TV work just fine, clear picture and sound etc. The xfinity app streaming to my Chromecast is so poor especially when I watch live sports that I end up just watching the same on my normal TV that has cable hooked up to it, or I use a specific sports app to watch the same casted. I also have the same problem with my DVR recordings casting, I end up just using my Hulu apps to catch up on my shows that have been recorded through xfinity. Anyways with that said this is very frustrating and they haven't fixed it. Like you said in the beginning I was honestly excited and stoked that xfinity finally decided to be smart and fair and allow the xfinity device to cast to the chromecast. Who wants to buy extra cable boxes? I don't....After repetitive poor streaming quality from the app to the chromecast I thought it was my internet or the distance between my modem and where my chromecast was hooked up to. I read all of your responses to everyone else below I agree with you, my chromecast is fine and my internet has more than enough speed/bandwidth to handle multiple devices at once for streaming and using the wifi. I have come to the conclusion that xfinity won't fix this streaming problem. I think they honestly just enabled casting from their app to please its customers but intentionally lowered the picture quality, so that it forces us to purchase an additional cable box anyways. Yeah no thanks. I have resulted back to my original streaming ways, cable in my living room, and using apps for my other tvs. Sorry for the long response but this actually has really frustrated me and I am glad others are experiencing the same issues.
