Xfinity Stream stopped working

This morning, XFINITY STREAM gives me the message on all my devices "Unfortunately, Stream has stopped." I uninstalled and downloaded again, still get the same message. It opens on my Samsung phone but none of my Samsung tablets. At first I thought it was my tablet problem, but it happens on more than one. Is there something going on with STREAM?

Howdy everyone,

Same issue here with my Galaxy View SM-T677A. All the other streaming apps I have on this tablet work great. Xfinity Stream app opens up and just sits there. I have tried all of the same fixes as listed here. Very frustrating. It would be great if we were given an explanation that makes sense as we all seem to be having the exact same issues.

Looks like we are all having the same problem. I'm going on vacation next month and really wanted to have access to my DVR at home. Without the stream app working I can't. I'm very disappointed. I hope Comcast had a fix for this soon or I'm going to really be pissed

I've got an old Galaxy Tab S 10.5, that I was using almost exclusively to chromecast the Xfinity Stream app. It was working great for over a year... but stopped last month... Tried all the usual troubleshooting, and I suspect the Xfinity Stream App is no longer compatible with the Android 6.01 that this old tablet runs... and there is no usual android update for this tablet

I'm sure Comcast did something.  They either don't know. Or don't care

@rolv all the other streaming apps work perfectly. It's my opinion Comcast did something and are not owning up to it. No way is this all a coincidence

Hi there, @user_19c6d8. Thank you for commenting on this post. When you say that the issue you are having is with streaming to Chromecast correct? If so, are you getting any errors when you attempt it?

I no longer work for Comcast.

I have the same issues and "unfortunately stream has stopped" message, same time frame as others.  All the remediation techniques have been tried:

... clear cache and data

... Uninstall Stream and reinstall latest version

... even reset my tablet to factory settings then reinstalled the app

There is a NEW compatibility issue that was created by either Xfinity or Samsung due to a release issued around Dec 10th.  It should be EASY for each organization to determine when they released a change.

Please expedite the isolation of this problem.

Further input.

My Samsung Galaxy View tablet does not show any recent updates to its software.

My Xfinity Stream app was not updated by me prior to the issue.

The only variable left is the Xfinity server app must have had a Rev that affected compatibility.

Please comment

An Xfinity rep contacted me as a result of my post here. After going through all recommended checks again, and despite their own website stating that minimum requirement for Stream is 5.0, he said that the minimum is actually Android 6.0. I did some research and see that there is a custom ROM available to upgrade the Galaxy View up to Android 8.1. I've never rooted a device or applied a custom ROM, but probably going to give it try. We use the View solely as a mobile TV so its either upgrade or switch TV services.

Custom ROM info: https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-view-unofficial-lineageos-15-1/

Can an Xfinity rep PLEASE formally confirm or deny that the Stream app now requires Android 6.0 or higher.

Thanks!

@user_913499   just Google

xfinity

stream apk 6.9.5.001 apk.  Download it, get package installer from play store, install apk with package installer.  Make sure you uninstall original xfinity app first.  Good luck

I had trouble with the package installer, but downloaded the stream apk app just installed it and somehow it works. I don't think I used package installer, I did download it, but it was confusing to operate.

6.9.5.001 apk also worked for me.  Happy to be able to use the app again.  Will not be updating anytime soon but great to have a fall back option if I ever try the update.

@user_bba261

And you won't. Comcast changed the minimum Android version. And didn't bother telling anyone. So screw us with older tablets that the versions can't be upgraded

I am having the exact same issue on my Samsung Galaxy Tab.

It's the app.  See above about installing 6.9.5.001 apk.  It works fine on an Android version 6 tablet.

I don't understand why Comcast doesn't know they have this problem with the update.

Hi everyone. I wanted to share this link with you so everyone can double-check their app versions: https://comca.st/3uKHCRM. For those of you with this version or later, please make sure your device isn't under the unsupported devices section either.

I no longer work for Comcast

Circa 2017 Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, SM-T530NU, Android 5.0.2, same problem, Xfinity Stream worked well for years and recently started showing "Unfortunately, Stream has stopped." Uninstalled Xfinity Stream, re-installed version 6.9.5.001, and it works like it used to. Thanks to those posting in this thread and shame on Comcast/Xfinity. (This is just another reason I'd drop them immediately if not for the fact they own the cable to my house.)

This Google search: Xfinity Stream 6.9.5.001

leads to this URL (if the forum allows me to post it):

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/comcast/xfinity-stream/xfinity-stream-6-9-5-001-release/

that with careful reading past all the ads leads to (if the forum allows me to post it):

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/comcast/xfinity-stream/xfinity-stream-6-9-5-001-release/xfinity-stream-6-9-5-001-android-apk-download/download/

that for me downloaded a ~45 MB .apk file.

Has anyone found a resolution to this Xfinity Stream problem?  The problem still exists and Xfinity techs as stumped.
